I think Ford is chasing the current "Trend" and not thinking that anything will change, so they're going to discontinue some fairly good product because they aren't making enough money. I agree from a business view they can't keep selling any car at a loss, but why are they losing money on that product. I have heard that Ford thinks it has to many chassis that can't expand or contract to go under their different cars. Wouldn't it be best to redesign their chassis so that can better adapt to different car lines ? Other manufactures have done this and it has lowered their cost on several different car lines and they went on about their business and made a profit. I realize that many are buying the big SUVs and Crossovers today but gas has been relatively inexpensive, however in the last few weeks that has changed to where we are spending more now that a few years ago when everyone wanted out of the big rigs and get something less expensive to operate. If this happens again, and I think that it will, then Ford is going to sitting on product that people will no longer want and have nothing in the pipe line they would be interested in. I think Ford, and any other manufacture for that matter need to take a hard long look at their internal cost to produce their product and figure out how to offer a quality vehicle with a price that they can still make money but more importantly be at a competitive price point in the market place. The bottom line in my opinion, for what its worth, Ford may find themselves in a position that they have nothing to sell that people want to buy at that time. For Ford to starts from ground zero to design and develop say small or mid sized cars because that's they way the market may go, it would take 3 to 4 years to put something in the showroom and buy then their back chasing the market again. I think in the end Ford will find they have shot themselves in the foot.

I think that the 332 cu.in. engine was the start of the FE series engine. The FE was offered in 352 cu.in., 390 cu.in. and 427 cu.in. There were some other displacements offered in the Edsel and Mercury lines. Very clean well cared for Ford. If this owner keeps this car serviced and cares for it as in the past he should be able to enjoy it for many more years. -
How to handle Chrome headlights lenses?
espo replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have used Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver followed by either Clear or Future after the paint dried. This looks close next to the chrome headlight ring. Not as good as a clear lens but it makes it look different enough and is easy to do. -
I went back and looked at your building pictures. I remember looking in on this thru your build. This was well thought out with the year model change and your attention to all the little details. The finished model looks perfect, but to fully appreciate what all went into this you have to look at the building process.

That is a wild Turbo/intake setup.

All of your body work really makes it look long and low. The tail lights look right, are those the stockers ? Great engine idea, why not .

detail Pet peeve of mine!
espo replied to Mercuryman54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree. I usually withhold my personal opinion if it is negative and try to compliment the things I find positive about other's builds. There have been times that the builder will ask for input both positive or negative and I have responded with only offering some possible solutions and then been attacked by others on the forum for being a "rivet counter" or something. When asked for input you have to walk a very fine line and sometimes it is hard to come across as trying to help and not criticize. -
1996 Chevy Dually (finished)

Great looking Dually. The paint treatment reminds me of some I have seen around that time. -
Iditarod Rat Rod Bus
espo replied to FrozenPlastik49's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I was following your build on this and I just lost track of it. This Bus turned out just great. The Rusting and all of the many detail parts you created go a long way toeward the effect you were trying for. You mentioned that yours was the only one in its class, but the most important award in my mind is the People's Choice award. When you receive that kind of acknowledgement you know you have a winner. -

Very nice body conversion. Just the right amount of exterior ageing with a nice clean interior. Did you do much chassis and engine detailing on this build ? -
1941 chevrolet pickup (stock)
espo replied to henry57's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice paint and chassis detail so far. Always refreshing to see a good Stock type build. -
The endless amount of painting details on this shows the longer you look at it. Very well built.
-
Very clean looking build. I like the standard 442 appearance you chose. Smooth paint and a timeless color.
-
It would seem like a lot of extra work and I can't see that there would be any advantage.
-
Beautiful countryside and mans best friend, I don't think it gets any better than that.
-
Very realistic looking day 2 type build. The interior looks perfect with the door locks and the rear shelf speakers. The yellow Accel plug wires and the after market air cleaner set the engine off well. The wheel and tire combination look great on this also.
-
That would make a great daily driver. The only thing I would do different would be to run amok in the Edelbrock Catalog for the engine.
-
Great looking build and I like the wheels and tires with the disc brakes showing. The color looks good but as others have mentioned it has a lot of glitter in it. Not even sure if it would work on the paint, but maybe if your strained it thru a very fine filter like they use in a Auto Body Shop or even an old nylon stocking maybe it reduce the amount of flake in the paint.
-
Very nice clean looking build. I like the interior and the red body color. Don't forget the Master Brake Cylinder before you head out incase you have to stop.
-
Beautiful looking build. Outstanding paint work and the interior is a perfect match. The instruments show well also. The first XK I ever saw was this exact color combination and I have been smitten ever since.

Great looking Rally Car. I don't know if it was your intension or not but I noticed what looks like some of the dirt from the road on the base. Having watched some of these races on TV I notice the teams service areas have some type of a tarp on the ground. In your picture it looks as if the car has just pulled into a service area and the road grime is still dropping off on the tarp. Well built.
-
Interesting subject that I don't remember ever seeing before. The fit and finish looks perfect and your build looks super clean.

While all three of the Tri-Fives are considered iconic I was disappointed that the question only showed '55s and '57s. This does seem the norm though as many seem to forget the '56. I have a personal attraction to the '56 as my family had one until my father thought he would rather have a '61 Falcon wagon, but that's another story all together. While I appreciate any of the three I still like the lines and what I think is a more refined appearance of the '56.

Revell Hot Rod Monster Machines
espo replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Both kits would be a real challenge to build correctly, but I think it would be worth the effort just for the experience. -
The talking heads on TV are saying we have only a chance of a little rain Friday night into Saturday morning. The last 3 weekends we have had rain and sleet and last Saturday night I watched the Royals lose again with the snow flying and they called the Sunday game because of the weather. While it's not unheard of for this kind of weather around here it is getting a little old if you know what I mean.
