Ich_Will Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 LOL. My record is 3 in a day. I admit I have a problem (or so the missus says). I have a pile of them in the closet.
crazyjim Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I bought a collection of about 200 a few years ago. negotiating now for a collection of about 50.
iBorg Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 My record was 78. Several years ago when kits were about $10 each our local Wally World was scheduled for reconstruction. They had a bunch of models reduced to $2.50 to empty the shelves before the work could begin. I was looking at the kits trying to figure out which ones to buy and the department manager saw me. We talked a bit and he commented that they really needed to be gone by the end of the day. I said I'd buy them all if the price was right. His reply was, ""What about $1 each." I replied, "Let me get a buggy."
Bainford Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Well, no where near 78, but I bought 11 kits one day whilst on a business trip. I was working in a city with a decent hobby shop that had a great selection, much better than my hometown LHS. I was being paid a per diem, and I was on that job for three weeks, so I ate frugally and saved my per diem money, and had a heck of a shopping spree at the hobby store near the end of the trip. In addition to the 11 new kits I bought several sheets of Slixx decals, a few modelling tools, and numerous bits and pieces. It was a great day.
NYLIBUD Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 About 20 kits, and that was only because my friend was closing up his hobby shop for good.
Bill Eh? Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I don't have an exact number, but usually it is around 10 kits +/- and it usually happens at the same time each year ... NNL East Saturday! LOL
rust-n-dust Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I recently bought a 60 Kit collection...that count?
Spruslayer Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 I feel better now at 5,so i really dont have KAS?
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Usually If I buy online, I'll buy several to save on shipping. Good rationalization for buying more than I need, right?
Daddyfink Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 25 at a kit show and about 10 at a hobby shop Yeah, not very impressive numbers, but, I got what I wanted
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Boy, I guess I better get on the ball! I can't remember ever buying more than one at a time. I guess I figured that I can't build more than one at a time, so......... Steve
ZTony8 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Several years ago a local hobby shop had acquired a collection and was offing the kits for $15 each( these were Tamiya and Hasegawa rally car and road racing kits) I bought about 20 of them. It was the one and only time I've ever used my credit card to buy kits.
Khils Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 NEVER....till now have I given "said" inquiry a single thought! If .....I at anytime find one, or 50 & they're what I want.....I WILL buy! ....and not think twice about it.
peter31a Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 7 hours ago, Bill Eh? said: I don't have an exact number, but usually it is around 10 kits +/- and it usually happens at the same time each year ... NNL East Saturday! LOL Yep, what Bill said since we're partners in crime when it comes to kit buying especially at NNL East or Motor City NNL.
martinfan5 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 12, or a case of US kits, I have done that a few times so far.
Carmak Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Years ago (1993 ish) when Ertl owned AMT and MPC there was an outlet near the factory in Dyersville, IA. I made occasional trips to Dyersville for work, it was hit and miss for kits worth buying. I think I came close to 100 one day. Typically damaged boxes sold for $2.50 or less and $1 kits were common. I was loading a second cart when one of the stockers came out with a damaged case (12) of the just released 69 Olds 442. I asked how much they would be and she said $6 for the case if she did not have to open it, on the cart it went.
Gramps46 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Many years ago I flew into Dayton Ohio on a business trip and a friend let me know that Dollar General I think it was had Fujimi GT40s on sale for $4.00 each. I rushed over there and bought about 10 of them. I must have been quite a sight with this huge bag trying to get it into the overhead and then the bag broke!
tbill Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 I think the most at one time was 40. A friend had bought a big collection and had a lot of complete kits for $5 each. NNL East usually results in 20 or so at a time.
vintagedragcrazy Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 I picked up an airplane collection of 650 unbuilt and 200-300 builts plus extra decals and some tools at an estate sale!!! Filled my Chevy trailblazer 4 times! That's a pile of stuff! Lol vince
Richard Bartrop Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Maybe three at a time, but that's like once a year.
BubbaBrown Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Back when they were about 6 bucks I ordered a case of roadrunners and a couple a cases of the lindberg 64 dodges. Still have some, roadrunners were 4-speeds. Most Mopar racers were autos.
Foxer Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 How many actually BUILT all those mass quantities of kits??
disabled modeler Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Once I bought a guys collection but it was very very cheap too...around 75 kits for 100.oo. These days my count for buying is none over the past 2 years...nothing showed up at out hobby lobby I liked or could spend the money on at the time....go figure..?
