Dave Van Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 77 Trans Am is a GREAT seller to Moms, Grandmas and folks that just need to buy a gift model but know nothing but that 'Smokey' movie. Big chain store buyers even ask for them. So I can't fault R2 for doing what's asked for. BUT....anything else from the era (like the coming Pinto) is much more welcome among the lunatic fringe that hangs here!!!

Maybe a late '70s Olds Cutlass would fit that category too, but one can't say cuz there's no money trail from that one, because it was never kitted The power of nostalgia, ha! Richard Bartrop Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 As opposed to the burning desire for a '77 Pinto?

Interesting... never had an AMT Pinto, how do they compare to the MPC ones? I have a 1972 release sans box. IMHO, the quarter windows are mis-shapen and the grille is pretty wonky...
Brett Barrow Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Now that they have the whole "Trans Am" licensing issues worked out they're probably just trying to get their money's worth out of the deal and do all the Trans Ams they can while they can.
Richard Bartrop Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Personally, I would pick anything over yet another malaisewagen.

Mark Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Except the Vega, funny car only. Presumably that kit didn't include a CB radio. Had the body in that kit looked halfway accurate, AMT might have reworked it into a stock version, as they did with the Gremlin...

If the new kit comes with those parts, I would consider buying it

They'll keep reissuing them until they hear/see people are not buying them. Kind of like orange 69 Chargers, huh?

The only difference between the two is, that the T/A passes the PC test, a test which led to pulling the plug on the orange car. While it's not about politics, religion or racism, the plot for both is the same and very simple, Tom & Jerry, cat and mouse..... Edited January 1, 2019 by Luc Janssens

That's but one of the problems. I'd like to graft the roof from one into an MPC body to get a wagon, but every time I look at it, less and less of the AMT body figures into it...

niteowl7710 Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Pretty sure the Smokey & the Bandit T/A still has the "PC" incorrect GA State Flag on the decal sheet though, it's just not on the box art anymore.
