What makes you say “yeah, that’s cool.”

As per the title, which of your builds makes you sit back and just say “Yeah... that’s cool.”

As some may know, I’ve just moved house and have finally got around to looking at my models - some have been in storage for maybe 7-8 years at my parents place and are seeing the light of day for the first time since. Of course, there’s been breakages and things to be fixed...

But when going through them I saw this old mustang I made and just stared at it and thought, “Yeah... now that’s cool.”

 

If you had to pick just one of your builds that you think is super cool, which would it be? Just one!

This one.

Almost 10 years old build, most of my builds from that era looks horrible today, but this one stood the test of time well, it has some emotional things attached to it too, my first weathering attempt, my only show winner ever, the project that I was doing to make myself feel better after my ex had done some very horrible things to me before she dumped me... If I had to get rid of all my models, built and unbuilt, except for one, I honestly think I would keep this....

For me its the overall theme or pkg so to speak. Has to have stance, the right colors . I usually build replica drag cars or vintage muscle cars. tossed in with my vintage annuals

And even though this one replicates nothing but coolness in my mind. It  this one just clicks my buttons. Its not my best or most detailed  work by a long shot. But if I have to pick just one thats clicks for me its this sock it to me vette build.

This model was the first time putting piping on the seats, and probably is my best paint job....

Plus it's a mild custom, which is kind of my thing.....

For me it's a toss up between my '67 Ford Galaxie and strangely enough, my '63 Pontiac Bonneville.

I'm not entirely certain why, because for one, I've never been a particularly huge fan of the '63 Bonneville, but it always kind of makes me smile when I look at it.

It does seem to have a "cool" factor that escapes me.

I'd have to say this one..................

After nearly 20 years the model still looks as good as when I first painted it. Keeping it in a case 99.9% of the time is a BIG help. ALL four windows still work on it, although the driver's side rear window can "skip" at times.......kinda like the real deal!

I was at first reluctant to try roll up windows on this as I had attempted this a couple years earlier on my '55 T-Bird. For the life of me I couldn't get that mechanism to work right at all, until I ran into Ken Hamilton (THE King of working features!) at a show and he gave me some tips of what I could do with the hardtop glass to make it work correctly. After several tries, his method worked especially for the front windows and I have to say that after all this time, it's still a cool model for all the working features that it has besides the windows.

The '57 Corvette that followed this one comes in a close second, but I'd picked the Impala over that one due to some of the "firsts" on a model for me.

Easy pick for me. Although I have a bunch that I think are cool. This one checks all of the boxes for me. This model has the most working features and scratch building I've ever done. I doubt I'll ever build another that does it for me like this one does.

I have had the Charger and the Challenger almost finished, except for paint and assembly for almost as long as this car has been done (2009). The Mustang is still in it's box, unstarted. They are all waiting for "someday".

I built this back in 1990, AMT 69 Chevelle with AMT 442 chassis under it.  It’s no where accurate for a SS car, it’s not really even finished, but to me it looks like the Bracket racer I envisioned at the time. It makes me smile every time.

Even though I didn't do many modifications to the kit one of my favorite builds is my 59 Eldorado. It's one of those builds where I just totally nailed my initial vision.

For me, it's this one...

Though I built it as a base model 383, bench seat, column shift Bee, it invokes strong memories of my first introduction to muscle cars in 1970.

In grade 1, owned by a teacher at the two room school I went to, the Turquoise machine left an indelible imprint on my impressionable young mind.

I try to make ALL my models "cool," of course, but one that pegs by "cool meter" recently is the original AMT '65 Mustang custom I bought off eBay and restored a few months ago. I didn't paint it, I didn't build it, I just fixed a few broken things and touched up some minor damage and did some general very minor Snake-Fu on it. This model just makes me happy for some reason.

Built my first SWC in the summer of 1963, brush painted it maroon, used a lot of glue. Finished this one last year. Always wanted to do it again.

I cut my modeling teeth mostly on showrods and drag race cars. I tend to really go for anything outrageous that I have not seen a likeness of before. Creativity and execution really count. Below is a link to some of my favorites. There are other great models out there by master craftsman that I have not captured. They tend to be in the drag section or big boys.

Of my own models, I would say this benchwarmer is the one I think of the most. I love the idea if cutting wind resistance by narrowing the body and using the existing body styling for other things such as intakes.

Like Snake said, I try to build em all to look cool. I picked this one because I built it when I was challenged by a great friend to build it in

just 30 days for a club model meeting contest.  Never really cared for the F1 Trucks. I prefer the 53-56 Ford F100's.
