rickcaps55 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Awesome I love it and that baby blue 53 chevy is awesome also very nice.!!
MeatMan Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 That's turning into one beautiful creation! Well done!
89AKurt Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Been awhile since I checked in, loving the imagination. Your trim under the windows, and drip rail, something that is subtle but needs to be done.
Impalow Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 Thanks guys! Just a little update, this paint is crazy time consuming, and I'm taking big-long breaks to avoid frustration.. haha. I got one entire side done, so there is some progress... I have kind of re-thought my plan for this, once these shapes/shading is done, I'm going to back mask them and shoot the Mazda Soul red around the perimeter of the panels. Then a couple of light coats of 2K clear, this will seal up all of this hard work before spraying the rainbow kandies. Once its sealed if I mess up the Kandy I can wipe it off with thinner and not destroy the panel shading. Hopefully that works... I like the look so far, its similar to the "endless line" technique but with a twist.
OldNYJim Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Yeah, that’s KILLER! It’s going to look GREAT! What’s going on the two ‘bare’ panels on the roof and hood? Or are they just spots you haven’t got to yet?
Spex84 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Loving the paint so far! I was looking through some pics of the Oakland Roadster Show in the late 60s/early 70s recently, and you're nailing the aesthetic for sure. The only thing missing now is some rainbow-hued shading!
Impalow Posted October 12, 2020 Author Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) Thanks guys!! Finally got my workshop up and running and this thing back on the bench! I'm thinking some linear rainbow candy stripes there...I think that will look cool... if it doesnt, Ill have to figure something else out, its kinda an area for some extra creative freedom.. haha Back masked with old Gold BMF... doesnt stick all that well... which is perfect for masking. Then some Splash paints Mazda Soul Crystal Red... Had a much better time spraying it a second time, also the smaller areas were easier to keep the candy coat even. Next up some more urethane clear... another round of wet sanding... then rainbow candys and BMF trim! Edited October 12, 2020 by Impalow
espo Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 I had wondered what had happened to this build. Great looking color. I saw a newer Mazda in a parking lot the other day and the color looked like the one you're using. In the sun it really showed the cars body lines and was a very deep looking color.
Nazz Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Lovin' that shade of red for this build. Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see how this one comes out. Jerry
NOBLNG Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Really fantastic looking paint job! There is no way I have that kind of patience...or talent.?
OldNYJim Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Love that color! There’s a Miata in that red color at my local dealer...it GLOWS in the sun, looks amazing! Glad to see some more on this one!
Spex84 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Glad to see this project pop up again. Looking good!!
Claude Thibodeau Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 HI Eric! Quite a ride in the time machine... to the late 60's! I remember when I custom-painted 1/1 vans in this manner. Groovy, as they said back then. Keep on truckin! CT
Dann Tier Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 I'm not into complex paint schemes, but this one is totally balanced, and Amazing!!.....LOVE IT!!!!
Randy D Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 That paint job is just awesome Eric !!! Randy
