Modlbldr Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I picked this up from a guy last week. It needed a good cleaning and a bit of freshening up. Being that it appears to be a build from the 60's I felt it best not to try to change anything. I tore it down to the basic assemblies for a good cleaning (man, was it dirty) and reassembled and replaced a few missing parts. Still need a passenger side exhaust manifold and a taillight. Enjoy! Snake45 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 That is a cool old survivor! I'd have done the same thing. Well preserved and model on!
cobraman Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Cleaned up nice. Someone spent some time drilling those holes.

Steamboat Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Very cool and unique. I'm guessing the holes would slow it down but they sure are different!

alan barton Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 A cheesegrater from another era - congrats on the cleanup, you really brought it back to life! Cheers Alan
Modlbldr Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Thanks guys! Glad you like it. I've stumbled into a small collection of builds from a guy who is not the original builder. I'm picking up some of them, all about the same condition. Some I plan to strip and some I plan to just clean up and put back together. If you like this, stay tuned for more. Later-
Bainford Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Nice save. There are certainly some cool old school mods there. A real time capsule.
Mr. Metallic Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 That is very cool. Some details that were not commonly added during that era with the fuel lines and such. I wonder what this was painted with, because man it's thick. Nearly obliterated every body line. But it's a race car, so it works.
espo Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Looks great. When I first saw what you had to work with I admit thinking is it worth it to do. Now seeing this all redone it was time well spent. The original builder did a really nice paint job and aligning all of the holes couldn't have been easy.
Jantrix Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Well done. I think trying to rebuild it would have turned into a bag of snakes in a real hurry.
Scott8950 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 oh man now that is cool! You did the right thing just cleaning it up.
Modlbldr Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 Thanks guys! I think I made the right decision too. I picked up a bunch more from this guy today (not his builds- he's a reseller). I'll post some pics tomorrow of my haul once I get them unpacked. Later-
Spottedlaurel Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Nice one Tom. It's a shame you don't know who the original builder was, but I'm sure they'd be very pleased to see it resurrected and enjoyed by a new audience. Look forward to seeing what else you get.
David G. Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Nice rescue work! Somebody spent a lot of time and effort building this one and it's good to know that the builder's work is still appreciated. BTW how did the interior fare with the cleanup? That custom cloth covering must have added to the challenge. David G.

Would be nice to pickhis brain about a few of his builds and let him know that they are being appreciated. I'll be posting pics this morning when I unpack them. David- the interior cloth held on just fine. I didn't wash it because I wasn't sure how it would hold up. I just took a damp toothbrush to it. It didn't manage to get all of the dirt off but a majority of it did. You can kind of see the results in this photo. Later- Edited March 11, 2021 by Modlbldr
Reegs Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Before there were fiberglass parts there were hole saws.
TarheelRick Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Very nice save an an iconic hot rod. I'll bet that one whistled when it went down the strip. Also wonder how it got through tech inspection with that fuel tank on the running board right beside the driver. Looking forward to more of your saves, keep'em coming.
stavanzer Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 What an Awesome Save, Tom! There are pics at the Gasser Madness site, of cars that had the Swiss Cheese treatment done to them, just like this model. So, this is a completely Legitimate build for the day. The OB could have seen real cars exactly like this.
Zippi Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Boy did that clean up nicely. I remember seeing a pic of this car some months back but for the life of me can't remember where.
