I love what you did with the screens and all the small details in the engine compartment. Oh how I wish.the AMT and MPC its were not based upon the promos. Thanks for the "rear end" picture. Clearly he did prefer the "Mach1" gas cap and I honeycomb panel. My brother had a 72 Grande that had the rear panel but it was textured not Honeycomb. You mentioned wipers which are of course "hidden" with the hood shut but that is a detail I know I have overlooked. I have expeimented with grafting the firewall and shock towers etc. from a 69/70 Monogram/Revell kit with pretty good results except of course there are differences between the 70 and 71. One thing I noticed on various diecasts is they have the mud flaps which is hilarious given so many other details that are overlooked. Once again great work on making the model we all wish someone would fix or start from scratch with an all new kit. It would sure save me a lot of time as it's almost impossible to detail and fix all the problems with either the AMT or MPC or Testors kits when I am shooing for about 20 different builds of various 71-73 Mustangs.

Let me say well executed version of the original Eleanor. The old kits leave a lot to be desired under the hood. You did not mention some mods you did that I can clearly see such as the radiator support and shock towers. Also I notice you scribed around the front side marker light just like the real car and you added the 71-72 turn signals below the bumper which is also unique to the movie Mustang that began as either a 71 or 72 sportsroof with the front bumper and grille replaced with a 73 one. It was a interesting mix of whatever Halicki though would look good on screen so he seemed to borrow ideas from the Boss (blacked out rear) and bottom painted black but the black on the hood was different than the Boss, Mach1 or sprint. I would love to see pictures under the hood of the movie car as it is now. My guess is there are some aftermarket parts (maybe carb and air cleaner). The paint color was always a matter of debate as the "experts" believe it was a custom color somewhere between grabber yellow and orange similar to the 70 T/A Boss 302's (which actually were not Bosses but that's a whole other story).. I searched and I found pictures of the back of the car but I am pretty sure since it was probably not a Mach1 even though both the stunt car and had the pop-off gas cap and rear honeycomb panel. I did find some information about the building of the two movie cars which seem credible. There is a lot of incorrect information out there (mainly assuming it is a 73 Mach1) and I'm not sure about why one article describes the engine as a Windsor and not a Cleveland. If anyone has any under hood pictures please share them. It is very possible the hood will not open due to all the damage. Well done Marko on a kit we will probably never see modified correctly by Round2 and even all the diecast versions miss some of the finer details. I hope to finish my Eleanor by the end of 2022. E

Another GT40 MKI on the table

Nice looking Shelby. I have built a few of these and you can tell it's a 52 year old kit. Someday I will finish the Eleanor version I started and painted the same color as your build. I can send you the parts that were missing in your kit - I have many spares.

Nice even if it was at the regular price.

Stating the obvious but what a beautiful blue Cobra. I have seen displays at Carlisle and SAAC conventions and although I "only" had a 427 Factory Five (302 engine) for about five years, it was an attention getter and a blast to drive. It's interesting the Borinat used the coil spring classis and the interior looks like they used whatever fit.

Another GT40 MKI on the table

I have not found anything yet. They look like a very generic light for that time period -perhaps for a truck or emergency vehicle. The Spark 1/18 model has replicated them nicely. -

Very nice to see an unusual livery and very nicely done. One could broke trying to do every version in every race but time would be a more limiting factor. I got another 1/43 GT40 from Spark via Ebay (also one way to spend money quickly) this week and won an auction for a Starter 1/43 kit of a 67 MKIIB. The IMC/MPC/Testorscollection may actually have to thinned out some as I have a lot of duplicates but there are almost endless variations that can be done with the Fujumi MKII and MKI's. Once again great work and I hope to see more of your builds soon.

Thanks In a thread maybe a year agio I mentioned the reflective material I was using for a few Mustang models. This sprint has the material on both the front amber and rear red reflectors.
-
Getting closer. No engine yet and I may give up on the red trim along the bottom as the decal is very very thin and the blue would not matc the painted grabber blue.
-
Very nice build and cool to see it is not the usual white. When Ford did the Mach III Mustang in 1993 everyone saw the red one but they also did one in bright metallic green. I believe the red one was destroyed in a fire and the green one is in Ford's possession. I have seen the original Mustang II in person and it shows it's age but isn't' in bad shape for a 55+ year old car that to me is just as important or not more so than Mustang VIN001 that Ford bought back and has displayed at anniversary shows.

Oops. Well that changes my answer. ?

Really only a few choices for a Daytona Coupe. Spend $200 or more. You cannot go wrong with the Historic Racing Miniatures one unless you settle for an engineless Gunze Sanyo if you can find one for sale and get in a bidding war.

Hey Folks, There's a Real Race Today

Boogity Boogity boys lets go racing. -
Many of the kits I build are based upon fifty year old molds because of the subject matter. This is no different than many other modelers that build cars of the 50-70's. I personally do not like building a 1/25 promo like model (with an engine that half the time is incorrect for that model year) but until Monogram and Revell came out with better versions (although many in 1/24) there weren't many options. I would love to see Tamiya and Fujumi etc. make the muscle and race cars I like (WITH an engine) but I know it just will never happen. So, there are great models out there if you are not picky about the subject matter and there are some that are not too bad when taking into account the number of decades that have passed. I guess the bottom line is build what you like and build box stock or go full out detailed with swapping parts and fixing errors - it's all up to you and enjoy this great hobby.

TV "Star"cars that never were kited
vamach1 replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Someone probably mentioned it already but no major model kit company did either Mustang from the gone is 60 seconds movies. I guess since they did diecasts in just about every scale the figured anyone that wanted one would just buy those. I have the Scale Producitons 67 Foosed Shelby and the parts to do the Hilacki 72/73 Eleanor Mustang but like many of us they are are in top 50 of kits I would like to to finish in this lifetime. ?. I'd also like to built the Mad Max Intetceptor Falcon but the kits are pricey and once again there's always the diecast that can be bought for instant gratification. If Palmer was still around they would pass that of awful kit 71 Mustang kit as Mel Gibson's ride. Who would think to do such a thing? ? -
The only ones I have seen are from an Ebay seller and they are cheap copies of the Fred Cady sheets but reduced to various scales. I believe the Monogram kits comes with the hood decal. I cannot remember for sure where I got the 1/32 Twister decals but looking at the quality it probably was the Ebay ones.

Bob Peeples Cobra Preservation Project
vamach1 replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So is the model still on display? I'm still thinking a 3D image of the major components would not be a crazy idea given the new molding technologies. It makes even more sense since his Cobra's were is basically in kit form and it's not destroying a built project just to make scans. -
1964 Ford GT
vamach1 replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Very nice job on what some have mentioned is not an easy build. I was thinking of doing the Scuderi Flilipinetti version with the unbuilt one I have. I will have to research more photos as I am not sure if it has the extra spoilers on the front. Fortunately I did buy the decals so it will make for an interesting version not see that often.
