1/25 MPC '86 Chevy El Camino & Trail Bike
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Will do, gonna be a few days, I'm in Florida and the kit is in North Carolina! -
Actually, commenting on class 8 trucks when the topic is clearly labeled pickup trucks is the problem. I have no problem with discussing Class 8 kits, but don't hijack a thread for your own benefit and laziness.

What truck is this?
mikemodeler replied to PierreR89's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That would make a nice tow truck! -
So then why do you keep posting in the light truck topics? If you want to get their attention, then do it in the appropriate topic for semi trucks. I haven't seen people posting light truck requests in the semi truck topics.

Thanks Steve! I guess it will be summer before we see these, which is fine by me, I have a few others to finish up.

The only accessories will probably be a hard hat and optional wheels.

MPC El Camino w/dirt bike at Hobby Lobby
mikemodeler replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Got mine on Monday (April 2) at a new Hobby Lobby in Jacksonville FL. They had the most up-to-date selection I have seen at a Hobby Lobby in a long time. I meant to go back and get the 1/25(?) scale Winnebago travel trailer but ran out of time. Looking forward to building that dirt bike! -
That Deserter kit goes together pretty well, leaf springs notwithstanding. If they cannot be heated /warmed and twisted back into shape, building a new set is as easy as cutting strips of styrene and stacking them to replicate the kits pieces. The other kits do have their issues. With that Monogram step-side, try using good old white glue (Elmers) and test fit and glue it together to make sure it fits and sits right.

Hey Art, can you or anyone connected to Moebius tell us when the F-100 4x4 kit will be on the shelves? I have asked nicely several times with no answer!

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me too, and considering I was asleep and didn't see the email until this morning, I guess I will get "spammed" by virtue of my information being transferred. -
A bit of a rant, and I apologize to our northern neighbors if they get offended. I drove from Jacksonville FL to Charlotte NC today after spending a few days working in Florida and I could not believe the number of Canadians who were driving their RV's home, possibly from a long winter in Florida, and used the middle and left lanes of I-95 to run UNDER the posted speed limit. I figured if my car has a speedometer that reads in both MPH and KPH, and I can determine how fast I am going, why can't the Canucks?

Jeep Rubicon
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I had wondered about this kit and how it would go together, thanks for sharing pictures and your observations. Still on the fence about getting one, will have to see how this turns out. The chassis detail looks really good. -
I sent him an email last Thursday with a list of parts and he responded the next day with an invoice. I suspect I will see my stuff before too long and then I will be under the gun to build!

Grabbed one of these tonight at a Hobby Lobby in Jacksonville FL. Used the 40% off coupon and walked out with it and was $19 poorer. -
I am still wondering when the '70 F-100 4x4 kit will be on the shelf? Glad to see the 65/66 F-100 is coming along and that utility body will be used on so many other trucks.

2018 Chevrolet/GMC stepside
mikemodeler replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if they meet US standards (fuel/safety) and could be ordered for use here? Not that I want/need one, but it would be fun to have something "unique". -

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off the rails! -
Spring is finally here in Charlotte, 72 yesterday, 78 today and supposed to be at least 65 every day for the next week. I could do without the tree pollen but it is that time of year. I hope to get some bodies painted in the next couple of days!

There has been a bunch more "stuff" added to new vehicles today that weren't on vehicles 5-8 years ago. Most cars have back up cameras, crash avoidance systems, improved fuel management systems, and other safety systems, some through government rules, that contribute to the cost. Add in good old marketing and the price gets pumped up only to give big discounts! If you are serious about a GM truck, they are making deals on 2018 models as the new 2019's will be rolling in soon. Another option to consider is looking for a year or two old vehicle, with low mileage, that has already been depreciated by 25-30% while still having a lot of useful life left in it.With programs like Carfax, you can check a vehicle out a little better than in the past, taking the salesman's word that it was driven to church by a 90 year old great grandma!

4 X 4 1966 Suburban
mikemodeler replied to c-plane362's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those are railroad vehicles. Special equipment to run down the rails, usually hydraulically activated. -
Hard to believe he isn't aware of all of the discussion going on Jim. Business people who ignore the elephant in the room usually get what they deserve in the end, it's called karma. A simple email reply is all that is necessary- no long winded excuses, just a simple "I'm sorry it's been so long, I am working on getting caught up" and then ACTUALLY shipping the order. Said it before- Don and Carol Holthaus had it right, orders are shipped in the order they are received, that way no one is left behind- and it should be the way a business is run.
