I'll get one to paint Sequoia Green to represent my parents' '68, my favorite car they ever had. And a second one to try to do a Bel Air/Biscayne 2D sedan, or perhaps a phantom Impala "formal roof" 2D hardtop.

7 Muscle Cars I Hope Will Be Kitted Soon
Snake45 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's pretty sharp looking, except for the model of the parking garage sitting on the hood. Lose that and we'll talk. -
Thanks! Hmmmmm. Looks better here than in the first pic. Right? Dunno, but it looks better than the Greenlight diecast.

I saw today that Southern Motorsports Hobbies has a resin repop for the reasonable price of $40. -
Would love to see a profile shot of the body but this will have to do for now. Thanks for sharing it! Is it my imagination, or does the rear end of the roof look just a little "too fastback"?

What non-auto model did you get today?
Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Back in the '80s, one day I was driving north on I-81 and saw, coming south, a semi/flatbed with, no kidding, a disassembled P-51 Mustang on it. The airplane was in somewhat weathered bare metal, no paint, except for an N number in black on the fuselage sides. It looked like a "barn find" or something that hadn't been flown or cared for for a while, but was basically complete. I've often wondered which Mustang that was, and where it might be today. (You could do that in 1/32, too, is why I brought it up.) -
HA! I have both of those, those colors too! Both Snake-Fued, but I haven't shown the Judge here yet. Both are slightly undersized, maybe 1/26, but look good on the shelf with 1/25 models. I like the Judge better than the Monogram 1/24, which looks huge on the shelf next to say AMT's '69 Chevelle. And, as a bonus, the Judge has the relatively rare exposed headlights!

Interesting idea! Actually I have a '65 Chevelle diecast (Maisto? I forget) that has a "deep" body that I've considered doing that with. On that one the problem is the whole lower body, most notable in the mid-body between the fenders, and cutting it would require re-engineering the entire model. Also thinking about maybe hiding the lower body with side exhausts.

Looks good, especially considering you started with someone else's FUBAR. I see your skill improving with every build. Well done and drive on!
-
Frankly, I'd just build it hood-closed and drive on. If it were known here how many of my models don't even have the engine in them, I'd be pelted with rocks and garbage.

Thanks. So the thing did actually run as-kitted by Aurora?
-
I see 'em fine.

When the project dies. Or does it?

Check out the BOYD thread and join the party. -
Well I've learned things in this thread that weren't covered in the earlier ones. But anyway.... I've got the Revell reissue of the Aurora kit of the original GT40, which of course is the prototype or very early version with the pointy front end. I don't like the pointy front end. What would be the easiest way to get the more common front end on there? Could this be done with sheet styrene, or is there some inexpensive alternative?

Yeah, and I forgot to mention, it's not only too short back there, it's also way too deep, like they've built it up (or down) for "ground effects." Someday I might chop about 1/4" off the lower body behind the rear wheels, but it'll take a Dremel cuttoff, a hacksaw, and/or a file to gitter done. Too bad that 1/4" can't magically be transformed into length of the deck. Oh well. I display my stuff angled out on the shelf, and the rear end doesn't really show that much anyway. Why not go ahead and get one and just have some fun with it?

Thanks Gramps!

Man, that thing just screams Early 60s! Well done and model on!
-
Thanks 57PS! I like satin black too. Almost everything looks good in it, and it's so easy to do, I have to avoid the temptation to have a shelf full of nothing but. Didn't especially have it in mind for this project, but after I found those pics of the real one, it just looked so badass I had to do it.

Thanks Bucky! Great tip. I might go back and do that to this one. Would sure make those rear lights stand out a bit more.

Looks very good! Those pre-painted stripes look much better than any '70 Chevelle decals I've ever seen, including the set I spent most of a day carefully modifying and applying. Well done and model on!

I haven't been back since I saw those prices a couple months ago.
