1960 AMT Chevrolet
TarheelRick replied to Stingray wes's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
And happy you should be. That is a very well built and weathered pick-up. -
Amazingly I was made aware of this phenomenon around 1973. I was stationed in Missouri in the USAF. Some friends and I went to the Lake of the Ozarks on a camping/fishing trip. We were awakened one morning by the sweet sound of a big V-8 with open exhausts, screaming across the lake. We later discovered it was a 2X4 Hemi-powered boat, the owner also had a dual quad 360 Dodge pickup to tow it with. There was also an SBC powered boat in the same marina. So yeah, hot rods and boats are two feathers on the same bird.

1981 "Fast 111's" Corvette 1:32 Scale by MPC: WIP
TarheelRick replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Enjoying watching you resurrect this build. I have a few 1/32 kits I need to work on: the original issue 63 Vette that is paint crazed and needs sanding, I believe I can salvage it; the Watson Indy Roadster, missing the exhaust and nerf bars, but then again there is Plastruct and Evergreen in all the correct sizes, so that should not be much of an endeavor. Maybe if I were to get some of these out I would be more inclined to dig out my workbench and get my area back in working order. -
Excellent work and attention to detail. Very well constructed.

I am always impressed when a modeler takes on a full custom like this. You sir are accomplishing some mighty fine work with this model. In your first post you said you would "post some of the details", one detail that particularly interests me is those beautiful Buick headlights. How did you accomplish that?

Buying a pin vise HELP
TarheelRick replied to WizPorsche944's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have had this particular pin vise for many years and use it exclusively. It has four different size collets and will hold the smallest bit I want to use and as large as 1/8". With this one the black knob stays steady in your palm while the shaft rotates by turning the knurled collar. Works great especially when you have five thumbs on each hand. These two I have had longer but do not use. The upper one has storage for bits in one end but has only one collet. It is also difficult to spin. The bottom one has collets in each end and is also very difficult to use. -
Got this a couple of days ago, bought it from an on-line auction. Not sure of completeness, some has been put together. When I opened the box a few real small screws and nuts fell on the floor, will have to do a good inventory to see if anything major is missing.

Irish Rover II done
TarheelRick replied to Leica007's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Remember those days well, PV4 (Pickups, Vans & 4WD) Truckin' both covered the scene very well. Very well built and represents the time frame, nice details throughout. I know you did a WIP, I need to know how you did the sliding door. -
Beautiful modified. Very nice work on that paint scheme.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
TarheelRick replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Anybody interested in a slightly used bottle of QSC stripper. Works really well on removing old paint. This original '63 Chevy was painted with what I presume to have been some type of paint available in the 60's. The QSC rolled it off with very little problems and only a few side-effects. -
Or fertilizing the field right next door to your house. That is a beautiful piece of work on the spreader and the whole diorama. Very believable weathering and "cargo".

That is one fine Gasser. Did you do the graphics or have them made? Either way they add a certain toughness to the build. I like it.

I haven't been on a bus since before Thanksgiving but it seems there is one right behind the wheel hump and another about halfway between that one and the first window. The roof hatches are evenly spaced front to rear. Divide your roof into thirds and put a roof hatch at each division line ---*---*--- if that helps.
-
Been following this build the whole way and am extremely impressed with your scratchbuilding abilities. This bus is turning out beautifully. One minor detail that I haven't noticed are emergency exits on a couple of the windows on each side and at least two exit hatches on the roof. Doesn't sound like much but we had a bus rollover a couple years ago and those emergency exits came in real handy to help get the kids out.

I need a recommendation.
TarheelRick replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been attempting to reduce my collection for the past couple of years. I attend most of the model shows and swap meets in the area, and by that I mean some that require me to either get a motel room or leave my house by 4:00 am. At the last show I attended one of the dealers came by my table and said, "I would like to buy you out, but I know I couldn't pay you what you would want." At least he is being honest and up front. At that last show I sold enough to cover the cost of the motel room and the table, however I did buy three more kits and raffle tickets which provided me with another kit that I won. One thought I have had is to talk to a local auctioneer that I know and see if maybe I could include a few 3or 4 model lots in some of his auctions. I know auctions work because over the past three weeks I have purchased at least a dozen kits, but they are destined to be used as bait at the next show. If anyone comes up with a solution to this problem, please let me know. -
Very nice build, looks like a true backyard racer. That front end seems to fit really well with the rest of the body. AMT/Round2 or whomever must have done some work on the molds.

Beautiful big Mercury and those wheels look just right on it. Now if this is to be your Cannonball entry, I am not so sure it will be that inconspicuous out on the highway, after all it is a Pink Mercury.

1955 or 57 Chevy 4 dr wagon
TarheelRick replied to Rocketman455's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Check with Steve Kohler at http://www.resinrealm.net/ I have a 55 4 dr wagon from him, it looks really good but it is rather thick and will require some interior trimming. I just checked his site and all he is showing is a phantom 2 dr wagon for the 55 and no wagons for the 57. Contact Steve, he may have something laying around, he is a very nice fellow to work with. I am sending you a PM. -
Lola MK VI GT - 1963 Le Mans
TarheelRick replied to Gramps46's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Excellent build of one of the prettiest road racers ever built. Sure wish someone, maybe Tamiya or another quality company, would release a full detail 1/25 version of this beauty. -
Super nice Mustang, very convincing SOHC. I still am a big fan of the FORD Drag Team.

I usually attend the CKM show in Clemmons and will be at the Fast Trax show in Statesville. I wanted to go to Salisbury but had some conflicting engagements and couldn't make it this year.
