Outstanding Nova. Beautiful overall build, but I really like the paint work - two thumbs up.

That is some excellent work; beautiful build. Keep those updates coming. -
What Say You?
TarheelRick replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Alright, it seems some people really like to play with the parts and pieces of MOPARs, so what are your thoughts on this one? It has a pretty bad photoshop going on, but the idea is there. -
Almost all decals will show haze around the edges when applied to satin or flat finish paints. The only way I know to overcome that is to paint the surface with a gloss clear first, apply the decal and when dry repaint with a semi-gloss or flat clear.

One other thing that has not been mentioned about those 180 degree headers is their sound is undeniable. A full race program of those cars on the track at one time will make goose-bumps all over your body. Really an incredible sound.

Sure wish Round 2 would reissue some of the 3-n-1 kits with the original 3-n-1 parts, especially some of the styline kits. I have a couple of the 61 Ford Galaxies, but would love to see the 57 T-Bird, 57 Chevy, and a couple of the others. Some of those "customs" were truly unbelievable, but were a fun challenge to build.

American Pickers
TarheelRick replied to Chuckyg1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There was one episode a few years back where Frank did buy a small collection of models, probably around 20 or 30, most were annual kits from the early/mid 60"s. I think he paid around $25 a piece for the kits. Made me want to cry, because I know if they were to actually resell them the price would be north of $100 each. -
Just received my end of a trade with Paul Payne, very pleased

Excellent build, the color combination fits that body really well. I like the looks of the chrome, did you do something to it or is that straight out of the box? -

Ok, I think the vote is pretty unanimous for the trash heap. So let's try this one on for size; it began as a Dodge Challenger. -
Just over the past couple of days I have noticed it seems to take forever for pictures to load, I am talking 30-45 seconds for one picture to load. Is this part of the update, or do I need to have a discussion with my internet provider?

Really nice looking '57. Looks like almost every high school parking lot in the 60's. That color and your paint work really makes it shine.

Ran across this while scanning the web this morning. Wonder what this general body of enthusiasts think about it. Not sure if it is real or a pretty good photoshop. Base car is a Toyota Supra MkIV with a Charger nose grafted on it. The mechanics look like they would work fairly well, although I believe the Charger nosepiece would need to be narrowed. However the aesthetics of such a build kind of leave me wondering what the designer was thinking.

Tamiya Mustang GT4 ModSpace Livery

That is one beautiful Mustang, but then 99% of all Mustangs are beautiful. The paint and decal work is phenomenal. -
Fine looking sedan delivery Sam. I have this body in my stash. Couple of questions, did you use the Ranchero chassis and did it give you any problems?

Something that irks me, and may have been mentioned before, is when someone posts a well-detailed build or one with interesting parts. Then a member asks about something on that build, i.e. where did you get those wheels, or which muffler oil did you use and the original builder does not have the courtesy to answer the question. May be a minor issue but it does irk me.

Totally wicked Anglia gasser. You have done some mighty fine scratch work on this one.

Scratch Building - OMG, I lost my dizzy
TarheelRick replied to Alyn's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Glad someone brought this one back up. It is an excellent tutorial and something this 72 year old modeler may have to try. That aluminum "jig" looks familiar, what is it from?- 31 replies

Resealed Kits
TarheelRick replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I may be mistaken, but I believe some of the older wrap would over the years continue to shrink just a bit causing the box to become misshapen. Of course I also remember when AMT/SMP simply had a small piece of tape over each end of the box, or in '61/62 they wrapped the box cover around the box top 1/4 inch to seal the box closed. -
Possible the owner wanted a less obvious deer stand.
