Another option is to put the tires in a zip lock bag with some baking soda then vigorously shake the bag. This will often tone down the sheen.

80's Dirt Late Model
TarheelRick replied to Pat smulsky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Sweet oval tracker. I am a fan of the older style recognizable body styles, but these are just wicked looking. You have done an excellent job. Would like more details on this build. Is the body scratchbuilt or vacuum-formed? What chassis did you build from? The world (or at least I do) wants to know. Thanks for sharing this one with us. -

Lotus Indy car or Offy Indy car reissue possibility?
TarheelRick replied to Amtronic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I still have this one, it is in pretty good shape, needs a couple of pieces replaced and a new set of decals. I would like to see Round2 rerelease some of these older 1/32 kits. I have a body from a '57 Chevy and a 65 Pontiac, almost all of the chrome pieces are missing. Also have an original '63 Vette, used wrong paint and it crazed, may be able to salvage it at some future date. -
Very nice build, looks like a whole lot of chrome foil - almost as much as a mid-60's Cadillac. I have a couple of started kits in my stash that have been there for 20 or more years, so I can feel your pain.

Yep, that's about the way it is. -
For radiusing wheelwells I use a small sanding drum on my Dremel, for other straight lines I use my t(rusty) razor saw.

Interior bucket fit help.
TarheelRick replied to Kevinch's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your post said the drivers side does not fir, from that I presume the passenger side is alright. That suggests to me the pins that hold the rear of the bucket in place are misaligned. Therefore, I would suggest you modify the holes that fit over those pins or you may have to remove those tabs altogether. If the tub is still a bit sloppy then follow the above suggestions by using thin strips of plastic along the edges of the interior bucket. -
Not really up to speed on Blazers, but am wondering if maybe the Revell GMC Snowplow chassis would fit under this body with some modifications?

It is not only USPS, DHL is not any better. I get my prescriptions through home delivery. Received an email stating the package had been shipped from Kentucky on January 7th and was given a tracking number. After a few days I did not receive the package so checked the tracking number. It showed the package had been received at the Raleigh, NC (100 miles away) center. Waited a few more days, took the tracking number to the local USPS, they checked it and told me the package had not been released to the USPS. Waited a couple more days, sent DHL Customer Service ? an email on the 26th of January asking why the package was still in Raleigh, amazingly received the package on the 28th. Already had my doctor issue an emergency short fill at the local drugstore, which cost me more than the full 90 day fill from home delivery.

Nice work. Really love VW vans, owned a '72 Wesphalia once, traded it for a '74 Rabbit (must have bumped my head the day before). Got to agree with Dan, it is more a 90's, the 60's would have not been as ornate plus it needs a "peace sign" somewhere on it. That being said, your work is outstanding and I really like it.

The C-130 and B-52 have both been flying since the mid 50's and are still in service, back then the primary tanker was the KC-97 with its howling brakes, now it is the KC-10 or something later. Now for my selection: C-130 (any variety) got my "cherry" in my USAF career and have been in love with it ever since - if I win the lottery I am going to buy one and park it in my front yard; second would be the F-4 Phantom (again any variety) worked it at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC, Kunsan AB, ROK, and Shaw AFB, SC; and my third choice is the B-52 (BUFF - Big, Ugly, Fat, well you can figure out the rest) that thing makes the ground move beneath your feet when it is on take-off roll.

Mcleans International
TarheelRick replied to The Brush's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Beautiful rig. The weathering and the worn tires show plenty of road miles. I well remember McClean Trucking, I live just a few miles from their homebase of Winston-Salem. -
I also love these older drag cars. You are doing an outstanding job on this one. If you are not satisfied with your fenderwell headers, simply roll out the pieces of solder between two boards to get them straight and try again. With a bit of trial and error they really look sweet. This was a set I built for a SCRambler gasser. I started with four pieces of solder glued into holes in the block, the engine is tack glued to the chassis. I then bent each one to fit the fenderwell area, allowing for tire clearance.

egg crate grille and the car behind it!
TarheelRick replied to Paul Payne's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Really enjoying watching this creation take shape. Are you working from any kind of drawing or is this project all in your head? I have found that the simplest, roughest sketches of a project will help me keep focused on the final outcome. That being said, keep those updates coming, I am anxious to see what develops. -
Excellent work, very nice weathering. The only thing I see missing is the tow eyes welded to the front frame rails for the tow bar to flat pull it to the drag strip. Beautiful build.

Wonderful rendition of a very beautiful car. I really enjoy that era road racer, they had style. -
Evil, wicked, mean & nasty. One fine looking Chevelle gasser, your detail work is beautiful.

TarheelRick replied to DrKerry's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
That is one fine looking T-Bird. Really like that blue color, sort of a throwback to FORD racing colors. -
Some nice slicing and dicing. The coupe look is definitely different, looking forward to where this one goes.

filthy 57 ford gasser barnyard find
TarheelRick replied to stevez's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Beautiful weathering and an outstanding build. Reminds me of the local dragstrip back in the 60's, many of those cars were built for speed and not for corporate sponsor looks.
