Yeah, Covid didn't help, but there were a lot of reasons why it stopped working. What's interesting is that a lot of the people who took part in that thread weren't using the Trading Post section otherwise.

Anyone deal with Motor City Resin Casters?
iamsuperdan replied to gbtr6's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I can't believe that there are people who think it's reasonable to wait 2 years for a product, with ZERO updates from the seller. And despite his significant backlog of orders, he still attends shows to sell his product?! That's pretty audacious. I bought some parts from MCR a few years ago. Took 6 months, which in itself was a ridiculous amount of time to wait for parts. The only times I received any contact was if I emailed first. Funny how that works. No contact until the day after I email. On several occasions. I was ready to cancel the order and reach out to my CC provider to open a dispute and get a refund, but then after my final email, I got a shipped notice. When the parts arrived, they were just okay. Live and learn I guess. I've since similar found pieces I have 3D printed. More detail, instant delivery of the file, can have things printed in a matter of hours, significantly less cost. -
What did you see on the road today?
iamsuperdan replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Put this in our showroom today. I know nothing about it. I know that it's not my taste at all, but it's still very cool. UPDATE: I've learned two things about this car. It apparently Dyno'd at just over 1000hp. It's for sale. Guy wants $300k CDN for it. lolz. -
That's exactly how I do it. Designers often say their files are in a certain scale, but if you math it out, I find they are often a little bit off. No worries though. Re-size, print, and they usually turn out fantastic.

This one is available for 3D printing over on the Cults3D site. The designer has a Tremec transmission designed to go with it too.

Now that the cold weather is here, I had to pack up my bench, as our garage is insulated, but not heated. So now I have my indoor temporary bench that I can set up and take down in a couple of minutes. And I'll be spending a lot more time at my mum's house, as her garage is heated and has a paint booth.

That was the entire month of October for me. This morning I read this was the latest first snow we've had here since 1944. Cool.

Yeah, TFL Truck did a test on that. They've done a few Lightning videos, and TFL are pretty honest and accurate about the Lightning and what it can and cannot do. From experience, if one needs to tow anything, the Lightning is NOT the truck. Yeah, it can handle a trailer no problem, but the range loss is significant. We have our Lightning demo unit here. The boss bought one so we can demo it. It's a Lightning Lariat with the extended range battery. Full charge shows around 400-430km of range. So that's fine. That's almost a Monday to Friday of daily driving stuff. But hooking his ski boat up to the back dropped that full charge range to around 120km. He got to the lake and was worried about getting home. That's about a 70km round trip. And it's not a heavy boat. Totally unacceptable for anyone looking to use their truck for towing duty.

Most definitely, yes. But it could be neat. Although...I do like the stealthy ninja silence of EV.

Will be interesting to finally hear what Dodge has up their sleeve with this "Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust" on the new Charger Daytona SRT. Dodge want to fix the EV sound problem. I'm all for it.

First snowfall of the year today. I'm one of those oddballs who actually like snow and winter. Local roads are icy and terrible, and luckily I didn't come across the annual meeting of the summer tire club. They usually get together on the first snowfall every year. Literally. And SiriusXM have the Christmas stations up and running already. I'm not listening just yet, but I like that they're there.

I think your pics show the effect really well! Great build!

Or I guess I could just go see the clients who have bought our Lightnings and see how they're holding up. One is a work truck for an HVAC contractor, the other is working on a farm. They run all of their tools and equipment just fine. Just like so many of the YT videos out there showing normal people using their trucks. But I guess that doesn't support a particular narrative either.

As an aside, that thing in the front is a compressor, not a generator. And the red things are plastic cases holding power tools. There are all kinds of videos on You Tube showing just how much you can power from a Lightning.

I don't think the disappearance was entirely Covid-related. lolz. Think I can find that thread anywhere? Spend the last 20 minutes searching, couldn't find it. Anyway... If I recall, it stopped being fun, as a lot of people started complaining about the kits that were offered up. Too common, too many curbsides, not enough choice, etc. So instead of just moving on after seeing nothing they liked, people would complain. And then people started saying there needed to be some rules. And then the rules suggested got out of hand. Kind of took the fun out of it. Which is too bad, because there was some good stuff there, and because of that thread I started talking to a few people around here. Yes, that thread turned into socialization and friendships. I for one would welcome its return.

I was more surprised to learn that he was still alive. Thought he passed years ago.

Fancy a challenge?
iamsuperdan replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Revell London Bus Scratchbuilt suspension generic fender flares - scaled to size and 3D printed BBS-style wheels & tires - scaled to size and 3d printed. Wouldn't be overly challenging to get the required parts. Although I wouldn't build it, I'd like to see someone else do it!
