  1. Outstanding! Great choice of colors and Livery!
  2. Nice Caddy!
  3. Thanks Chris! I use a "homebrew thinner I got from another builder, it's 3 parts distilled water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol, and a few drops of glycerin as a flow improver per 8 0unce batch to help prevent the tip from drying. I actually haven't had a problem with the paint coming off while masking. I do mix some Gloss, Satin, or Matte Varnish (depending on what parts I'm painting, see pic below) with the paint to help prevent chipping and rub-off during handling. Acrylics generally don't stick well to bare styrene as I quickly found out at first use, but I prime every part that needs paint regardless of what kind of paint I'm using, so that's not a problem. Also so far I've used Tamiya TS-13 Clear, Krylon Short Cuts Gloss Clear, Decoart Varnish, and Pledge Floor Gloss as clears with no problems from any of them. I've not tried Testors Lacquer or Enamel Clears yet, but one would think the Lacquer Clears would be OK since the Tamiya is. I've also seen a few builders use 2K Clears over craft paints with no problems. That stuff's just way too caustic for me though.
  4. Thanks guys, I got some outdoor pics this morning before the sun got hot enough to melt everything, LOL, and got it posted in Under Glass.
  5. Here's my version of the Revell Foose FD-100 Pickup. It's a really well done and nice fitting kit. The only thing I would change is the metal axle for the front. It would have been nice to have pins for the front wheels, which would eliminate the need for a hole through the oil pan. I painted mine in a custom mix of Chroma Molten Metals Copper and Decoart Extreme Sheen Obsidian craft paints airbrushed on for the main color. The top is a custom mix of Apple Barrel White, with a few drops of Apple Barrel Khaki, and a drop or two of Delta Fleshtone, also airbrushed on. I cleared it with Krylon Short Cuts Gloss Clear, and gave it the wet-sand, polish, and wax treatment. For the interior, I painted the dash, and upper door panels with the Dark Copper. The door panels, seat, and steering column were done in the Cream color, the carpet area in Apple Barrel Nutmeg Brown, and the inner seat is Apple Barrel Honey Brown. The engine carries the same color scheme as the body, with ignition wires added for extra details. The frame is Dark Copper as well, with an Aluminum transmission. The suspension parts are Anita's Glossy Black and Aluminum, while the exhaust and transmission pan are Green Stuff World Chrome sprayed on so as to not quite be chrome. I also airbrushed the Rotors with GSW Chrome, while the rotors were painted with the Cream. To finish things off, the window trim is Bare Metal foil.
  6. That's a very cool looking truck! Great job on the interior and paint!
  7. I wet-sanded the clear on Saturday starting with 3600 then to 4000, 6000, 8000, and finally 12000, then polished and waxed it on Sunday. Final assembly was a breeze and took place on Monday. I got some indoor pics this morning, but Mother Nature decided to play peek-a-boo with the sun today so I will have to wait to get some outdoor pics tomorrow. The forecast is calling for 105 degree heat index here in Michigan, so hopefully I can get some in the morning. Until then, here's a couple of teasers...
  8. Great looking 'Vette! Nicely done!
  9. Well done!
  10. Nicely done! You may have just inspired me to pick up this "junk" kit next time I'm in Hobby Lobby for my next kit purchases.
  11. That's a great looking paint job! One of these years I may get the courage to try something like that myself, LOL.
  12. Yesterday saw the engine assembly finished and today was spent on the chassis/suspension area. With the engine installed, I now have a rolling chassis. I'll detail the wheels with some Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent and the kit center cap decals tomorrow.
  13. It has rained about every other day here in Michigan lately, but with a nice day yesterday, I got the Krylon Short Cuts Gloss Clear sprayed on straight from the can. I have to say that for the price I really like this clear. It's not as good as Tamiya TS-13 (My experiences so far haven't left as smooth of a finish as Tamiya, but not bad either), but it does wet-sand and polish out nicely. I'll probably get to the wet-sand and polish stage on Saturday.
  14. For the interior, I taped off the seat insert and airbrushed it in Apple Barrel Honey Brown, and I brush painted the carpet area with Apple Barrel Nutmeg Brown. I used Molotow Chrome for details on the door panels and dashboard, and added some of the kit decals before assembling.
  15. Fresh off of finishing the Foose Custom Cadillac, I started on the pickup. I started it last week with a particular color combo in mind, Dark Copper with a Black top and accents. Upon seeing the color my wife suggested a Cream color instead, so I went with that. After the usual body and parts prep and wash, everything got sprayed with Stynylrez Primer. The new bottle of primer sprayed nice and dried real smooth, so I didn't even wet-sand the primer coat before paint. I mixed up the Dark Copper by mixing some Decoart Extreme Sheen Obsidian into some Chroma Molten Metals Copper, about 75/25 Copper to Black. I added my acrylic thinner and sprayed it on at about 25 psi. A couple of light coats, a couple of medium coats and a heavy coat did the trick. I also mixed the Cream using Apple Barrel Gloss White, Apple Barrel Khaki, and a couple of drops of Delta Fleshtone, mixed with my acrylic thinner. I sprayed the interior parts and top at the same psi. I then taped off the door panels for the Dark Copper.
  16. Very nice work! I like the colors!
  17. That's looking mighty fine so far!
