Pickup truck bed topper?
Oldcarfan27 replied to kymdlr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There were many 1/24 & 1/25 kits that included camper shells. A few come to mind like: MPC 77 Dodge pickup. Monogram Chevy Luv. MPC 76 Datsun pickup. AMT 78 Courier pickup (currently available) Revell 80 Datsun 4x4 pickup. Revell Jeep Honcho pickup. AMT 70 Chevy pickup annual. AMT 63 Ford pickup annual. MPC 81 El Camino. Monogram 78 El Camino (currently available). Probably others that I've forgotten. I'm sure there are/were aftermarket sources that provided them too. Would be a hoot if any of them were actually made of fiberglass! I've thought it would be fun to make a 60s type, box camper to put on an older truck. Shouldn't be too hard - it's just a box! -

Roof from a 53 Ford attached to the Mercury would make a "Keen Kustom". -

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
Oldcarfan27 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't know him personally, but if all the Star Trek and Coca-Cola products pay for retooling of Olds F85s, Int'l 4070s and 66 Mustang FBs, then I say "Let him enjoy what he likes, he's greenlighting more than just Star Trek, so be it!" Remember the Racing Champion days?- 216 replies

I remember that Camaro. Mitchell even had a Ferrari V12 installed in this daily driver. Next up, Studebaker or Jeep Gladiator. Coincidence - I think not! -
Thanks for showing all the different modifications you made. It shows us what possibilities there are to improve this old kit. I'm curious to see how you fix the grille/headlight covers on this, as 71 inserts are definitely incorrect for this car. Can anybody verify if the annual kit had the correct inserts, or have they always been wrong?

Fomoco 1949 fastbacks
Oldcarfan27 replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe try removing the whole roof and replacing it with the Merc roof. Undoubtedly, if Ford would have done it, they would have used readily available parts. Hence the Mercury lineage. Might also be cool to try a Mercury coupe using the Ford roof. -
Just guessing, but judging by the age of the build, it's possibly Testors paints. Testors spray cans: S1241 Wood Tan. S1629 Ruby Red Metallic. S1628 Competition Orange. S1214 Gloss Yellow. It also looks like he was a master at laying down a good pinstripe. If it turns out that you have to repaint everything, that would be the time to open up the sleeper to show off all the detail inside.

Looks like some fun "phantom" projects to me. Especially the first one! I like that one and the 4 door Merc. -

I think Gramps meant this one. Looks like a very restorable project, I'm sure you'll do it justice. Tell us how it compares with the upcoming AMT 66. -
The pictures I'm using have a Diamond Jubilee edition in this blue, so that's what I'm going for. AFAIK, DJ edition has the padding on the spare tire area, so that's been put on too.

I used two 34 Ford pickup grilles to make it. It was the only pieces I had available with a fine enough pattern to replicate the 1:1. I've currently split the entire grille shell down the middle and bent it to give it more "point". I'm adding plastic to the bumper to match. The headlights do still have the angle on them. Unfortunately, all the working and sanding softened the point a little, but it is there.

You Sir, are a sick man! To do that to a Porsche will have the purists fuming, but the execution is spectacular! Great detail and excellent creativity. What's next a flying Lamborghini? Or maybe a hover School Bus. Can't wait to see what's next.

MPC 1980 Plymouth Volare Road Runner "Fuzz Buster"
Oldcarfan27 replied to THarrison351's topic in Model Cars
Very nice! We don't see too many of these built up on this forum, which is a shame as I think it's a pretty fun little kit. I do think it looks much better with the silver paint. What do you plan to do with the rest of the stock Roadrunner decals? It'd be a shame not to use them on a stock build. They look really good. -
I've got the car back in the shop. The flat nose was just too much for me to leave alone, so I'm making some improvements - while carefully trying not to damage the rest of the car. "Stay tuned, More McNally to come." Oops sorry, wrong channel.

1/25 MPC '33 Willys Panel Van - Paddy Wagon
Oldcarfan27 replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Actually, it is a '50 Merc. While slightly different from the AMT '49, I do wish it was a '51 as that would have enough changes to make it a more worthwhile purchase. I like the '51 for its over abundance of chrome trim and unique rear backlight. -
Looks good. I've definitely seen Camaros in that color! Decided on interior color yet?
