Painting side panel badges
NOBLNG replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Makes perfect sense. I will be trying this on my next bit of script! Now I just have to send away for those 7x readers I saw in the infomercial last night. -
A scratch build worth seeing

Wow! That is dedication, the mans talents are phenomenal. -
Just curious, why do you prefer siphon? are there any advantages other than a larger paint reservoir?

I thought they were marking their territory.

Michael's doesn't have a great selection and they don't seem to be re-stocking sold out items, but I had a 55% off coupon that is only good for today so.... I'm not a big fan of this particular truck, but it is a 2 in 1 kit with a straight 6 engine. It is also a skill level 4 which means more parts! This one I may wind up customizing.

I do believe I will try it also, I don't mind painting the trim, but script is difficult sometimes. -
Thank You all for the compliments, and thanks for all the tips and tricks I have learned here. This is my first paint job since discovering this forum, and my first airbrush job ever! I must say that the Aztec paint and clear goes on very nice, or at least I think it does in my limited experience. I wish it came in more colors. The only place I have found it is Michaels, and they are not replacing their stock sadly.

I am calling this one done. The color is Testors Aztec Pearl Red, with Aztec Clear Gloss on top. I did not install the drivers side mirror, as it looked a little big and chunky.

That is a VERY nice job!

I have not yet wired an engine, but I found some very small diameter wire inside an old cell phone charging cord. For heater hoses, I got some 1/16" shrink tube from an electronics supplier. This slips nicely over radio solder or whatever wire you have and can then be bent without kinking.

I can't figure out where this part is supposed to attach. I have googled images of '94 Corvette undercarriage, suspension, oil cooler/ brace and have found nothing that looks like this piece. Does AMT just make up parts? I am just going to discard it I guess, as it cannot attach to the two lower A-arms as they show.

Very Nice! One of my all-time favorite cars.

I am attempting to apply foil to the bumpers of a '67 Corvette that were in bad shape. I used some Tamiya epoxy putty to reshape a chunk that was missing, and "Perfect Plastic Putty" to fill the indentations on one half. The foil will not stick to the plastic putty at all. Can I just use any sort of clear coat to seal the putty, or is there something better that it will stick to?

I was wondering if there was any silicone in silly putty, since silicone can cause big problems for paint jobs. Turns out it IS silicone and boric acid. Have you had any paint issues when using it? I googled using it as a mask, and it turns out hobbyists of all types use it with great success. I think I will give it a try, and just be careful not to get any where I don't want it and wash my hands frequently.

Wow! I have never seen a model that looked more like old steel! The design just goes to show that there really are no limits to this hobby! One can truly never get bored if you have an imagination.
-
Nice job! I've never seen one of those before. I don't think the wheels look that bad. Some black center caps might help them.

I bought this one already assembled at the flea market. I am trying to partially disassemble it, as it deserves a paintjob, I think! Whoever owned it did a pretty nice job on the interior, so I will leave it alone. I managed to pry the wipers off and the tail lights out, but the bumpers and windows are really glued well! I would like to get them off so I can do a better paint job.

What's the One Part You Hoard?
NOBLNG replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't have enough parts to "hoard" anything. I NEED parts just to finish the few models I have. -
Auto Art. What's in your yard ?
NOBLNG replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, they are not particularly rare. And the radiator mounting box has been hacked off of it. -

Looking good! Fantastic job on that interior.

No, I don't have one of them. This was done with a Craftsmart paint pen dabbed into a bottle cap and I dip my paintbrush into that. It goes on real nice. I have not tried the BMF that I bought yet, but I think painting the trim would be far faster than foiling it . Is it as real? I don't know... I will try the BMF on the next one.

Wow! Most modelers strive to achieve the illusion the the model is real! This tries to trick you into thinking that the model is NOT real.
