Airbrushing future -- buffing out errors?
Bills72sj replied to gjorenby's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Use household ammonia and a Q-tip to completely remove all of it from the affected panel. MASK and shoot it again. Ammonia will not bother lacquer or enamel. (not sure about acrylics which is what Future is) Recoated the roof of my red Chevelle twice before it turned out ok. -
AMEN, brother! I am currently building Testors very incorrect 71 Boss 351 but as a (not as incorrect) 73 Boss 351.

Airbrushing: Jumping in with both feet and my wallet.

I suspected as much. I will probably use the stick-like one in the middle. It looks like it would work without chipping the glass bottle and also not fling paint out of it. Alternately, I could flatten the fan blades of the metal one to make it less aggressive.- 72 replies

You must be clairvoyant, I just ordered one on ebay this afternoon. I also ordered a muffin fan to attach to my air compressor to keep it cool.- 72 replies

40% off all model kits at HL
Bills72sj replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Decided to swing by my HL today. With 40% off I picked up (2) Pro Street 66 Novas so I can Pro Street other cars without feeling guilty for robbing the parts. I also grabbed two more cans of Wet Look Clear before it goes away. -
Kendall, You have come to the right place. There is a lot to be learned and enjoyed here.

Steve, Your experiences and attitude are exactly like mine. My wife was on FB off and on for a few years. She gave up on it for the same reason. Too many clueless narcissists who just raise your blood pressure.

I have been doing that. However, my paint storage jars/bottles are 50ml and made of glass. Do not want to get too radical shaking them.- 72 replies

40% off all model kits at HL
Bills72sj replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My friend Tim was at HL and texted me about the 40% off. I was in the other day and picked up some rattle cans at 30% off. The model section was pretty well stocked but I already have pretty much everything I want. Besides, my hobby budget has taken quite a beatdown lately since I just tooled up for airbrushing. -
Airbrushing: Jumping in with both feet and my wallet.
Bills72sj replied to Bills72sj's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
After a very successful 1st day of airbrushing, day 2 presented some challenges. Decanting a full can of flat white in rush, caused some issues. I didn't shake it enough so a lot of the solids stayed in the bottom of the can. I had to scoop them out bit by bit with a toothpick through a jagged sheet metal gauntlet. Also I pierced the can right after shaking it so the bubbling from depressurization made a drippy mess in my hose and backyard. (Dang glad I was outside). When I went to decant a full can of flat black too soon (again) it did the same thing. However the solids did exit when poured out. When I went to spray the flat black onto my parts, I was getting bubbles in my paint cup. I then grabbed my new siphon airbrush and painted with it for the very first time. It actually sprayed pretty well after thinning the paint a bit more. I then had to clean TWO airbrushes. I found out the little O-ring for the nozzle had squished out of it seat and got destroyed. I saw on Youtube that to replace it, one guy uses beeswax on the threads instead. My wife actually had some on hand. The airbrush is now clean and reassembled but I have not used it yet.- 72 replies

Kyle, Thank you very much. Yes there is a plan. I want to make a transparent top with 10 fixtures from an AMT NASCAR trailer kit. I will add LEDs that light and are controlled by a remote control. Unfortunately, the demand from businesses for COVID shields has wiped out the local supply of Plexiglass. I will get back to it eventually.

Thank you David. Tim is an avid diorama builder and has a whole bunch of really cool ones. He found my one online here and was floored when he found out we live in the same town. We have been trading ideas and parts a number of times since.

It is not beyond your skills. Paint a base coat of fine metallic gold, Use 1/16" masking tape to make straight lines. Lay large pieces of BMF. Cut BMF to leave mask over gold. Remove all areas to be green. Use bits of parafilm or BMF to seal any tiny grooves such a window trim. Paint your green. Remove BMF mask, Voila! gold stripes!

Very nice dash detailing. And I agree, the Sport Wheels look great on red Chevelles. When I was in High School two of my buddies had "real" red SS 396's. One was a 69 and one was a 70. Both were 4-speeds and FAST!
