Ford 34, a street hot rod who did not reach the finish line
Ulf replied to Ulf's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The shock absorbers are now in place. I filed down the brackets a little. When my wife was away to the gym, I took the opportunity to remove the crossbar as well. -

Thank you Yes, having fun is the first priority for me. Thank you Yes, having fun is the first priority for me. I really appreciate and am fascinated by the super builders, but I am keen to prioritize my own modest joy. -
Ford 34, a street hot rod who did not reach the finish line

Finally, a small contribution, a small update. I have been reluctant to make these shock absorber mounts but now they are in place and the glue will set for a few days. Lessons learned so far, kitbash saves time and keeps the whitecoats at bay, just digging in the junk drawer has been beyond my ability. The motto life is too short to build bad kits runs through my head sometimes. -
Nice build, yes I recognize much of what you have done. I have a sleeping project in the summer cottage that will start over with a new kit in the future (I like my concept). I took the headlights from AMT's 64 Mustang, I had it very spartan when I built the summer 2023. I will follow your build.

What would YOU like to see as a model
Ulf replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me more like concept than specific cars, less chrome, more doors, smaller hubcaps, fewer cylinders, longer roofs or flat beads, bench seats and three on the tree. Cars that fade with time. Moebius och Round2 are moving in this direction. -

It warms my plumber's heart, nice. -
The Little A- The missing vintage Monogram design proposal
Ulf replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Model Cars
Interesting concept, almost a bit of art. There are several Monogram kits that fit this concept. The fact that you polish the plastic gives the workheight. -
Most of it is written already, I do as 64SS350 but if it is an old kit (Scalemates gives answers about when the kit came out) it might be worth a few minutes to look and measure the left and right side of the body and make sure they are equal.

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
Ulf replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Took a deep breath and traveled to the summer cottage and picked up the model car projects, the dirty laundry is always voluminously larger than the clean one on the trip there so they have been left behind but tonight I at least pack some into the shelf at home to work on during the winter. The real fault is the usual one, I lack sufficient discipline to be able to focus on one project at a time. The goal is to finish what has been started and then just focus on one and if necessary take it with me. -
29 Ford Model A p/u with California street choper 1/25 scale
Ulf replied to Jack L's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is by far the best Harley Davidson Chopper kit of all categories in terms of style, design and correct parts. I and many with me would love to see a 1/8, 1/12 in the same style, original frame with cast parts, generator block, springer or telescopic fork, star hub, Andersen pegs, Bates saddle, dog bone risers, Bates lamp etc. Given how popular these Panheads are today, they should be able to sell provided they are buildable and stable which they should be able to be with today's technology. Small variations could produce several different kits. In short, Revell, see the facts in the link below. https://auctionet.com/sv/2171603-harley-davidson-knucklehead-chopper-unik/images -

When did the AMT 49 Ford kit come out
Ulf replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are small but noticeable differences between the AMT 49 business coupe and 50 convertible kits, separate signal ring, red rear lenses etc. -
When did the AMT 49 Ford kit come out
Ulf replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of the absolute best kits ever, an equal in terms of correct shape, the right feeling of the scale model, accessories, fit etc etc. In some cases it feels like the development has gone in the wrong direction after this kit. My ongoing project, unfortunately it was not an old kit that I bought but probably someone who built several 49 Fords and sorted out the bad parts and collected these in the box that I bought. Despite that it is a fun project. -
Polishing a molded in color body
Ulf replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been a bit tempted to build a car this way so I've had a closer look at some really nice ones. Polishing as Leica007 writes yes but a couple of really nice ones that I looked at and talked to the builder about have been painted on the inside of the body, the one a yellow he had painted first chrome silver, then black, then blue(?) interior roof. He had tested with black directly but then the car became mustard yellow. In short, his cars felt solid. By the way, he is very careful to paint all the back sides black, outside interior, top chassis etc. -
Chassis scratch building frame table/jig
Ulf replied to BKIN10SECS's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My favorites, the aluminum piece with perpendicular holes in it is good help to glue straight and right, the aluminum profiles support both parts and the eye measure. Edit Ironically, I discovered right after I posted the post that I cut off the wrong axles from the sprue and glued tree of six... no jig helps against such mistakes. This time it was salvageable because I use Revell's glue and the return wheels were reversible. -
Funny car what color to paint INSIDE of body ?
Ulf replied to Ralphie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I say matte black which means I would choose a dark gray(almost black). The few Funny Cars I have been close to have been like that, one in the late 70's was black in the coupe but chalk white from the windshield on. I actually think it gives the driver better visibility or at least the feeling of it. -
Chassis scratch building frame table/jig
Ulf replied to BKIN10SECS's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Unfortunately it is easy to build tension into the car if you have fixed fix points. I sometimes build something like the picture to make it easier to handle, I have glued a millimeter paper to help me see if I am building straight, the 34 pear shape is a challenge. -
Not good, sad but which edition of AMT 51 Chevrolet has these wonderful slot mags ?

Remove dried glue from models
Ulf replied to midlineqb's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try putting the parts in a plastic bag, soak a little and put in the freezer, a few turns in and out so that it can thaw to freeze again so maybe the glue will release from the freezing blast. I tried it in the 90s and managed to get a one piece glass in an AWB kit. A couple drops of dish soap in the water actually increases the penetration. Some of the old glues were partly porous and if they have had time to dry on the surface there may be a small gap. Glycol creates leaks you learn as a plumber but I think dish soap is more appropriate. -
What did you see on the road today?
Ulf replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Volvo truck 1971, it has an exemption from the environmental zone introduced in 1996 so that it can deliver coal to S/S Blidösund.
