Modelhaus End Of Business Sale
Draggon replied to Againmikewins's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I ordered a bunch of wheels and tires. I was really glad to get a dually wheel/tire set! -
Tired of your normal build subjects?
Draggon replied to OneTrickPony's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think you could use your imagination and logic this out as having been wrecked badly enough so the only option was to junk it, and whomever did this kept it from the crusher. I'd bet dollar to donuts that's not the case though. It looks like that guy may have done this one, too. -
Anyone know a Bill Stillwagon?
Draggon replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lyle is on my F.B. friends list and I see he just a posted a few hours ago. Stillwagon was on Lyle's page a few days ago. It looks like they are more into 1:1 these days. -
Here is the crown jewel in my collection. I got this from John Goschke (froghawk). It's a stunning model even by today's standards. Thanks, John!

This, and what Bill said. Somewhere between the internet and the folks that weren't around back then, people started mis-using the word "gasser" to indicate a raised car built in a style similar to the NHRA gas class. Add the wave of "tribute" vehicles to the mix and it's easy to see where everything got confounded. For a few years around 1968 folks were mimicking the gas style cars on the street. They were called highriders, and morphed into what we'd call street freaks today. That Volvo "Lil Crawl Along" is a British racecar if I remember correctly. So the stance is not applicable.

Kookies Tee in a plastic kit ?
Draggon replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I completely agree with this. I saw Leg Show at the '70 GNRS and my 16 year old mind was blown. I still have the copy of Rod-n-Custom with it on the cover. My number one favorite T of all time, even above my love for Grabowski's and Ivo's. Chauvin Emmon's was way ahead of his time, and I don't think he's ever gotten the recognition he deserves. Greg knows how much I dig the Leg Show -
I had the original panel kit from 1966. For reasons unknown, sometime shortly after I cut the cowl and doors away from the rest of the panel body. Of course the panel part is gone and I still have the cowl/doors. 40 some odd years later, when I realized the Vampire Van is the same kit and I used to have the panel part, I was pretty disgusted with myself.

No, there's a sort of rubberized coating that is sprayed on rocker panels to prevent or limit stone chipping. I had it on my 5.0 Mustang. Here's a pic. It's too close up, but in scale it might look like a line or a crease.
-
Isn't that the coating they spray on to protect the from paint chipping, and not actually a body crease?

You slapped a good bunch of Snake-fu on that one. Well done

Good Model Shop in California
Draggon replied to jasoncamaro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been to both of the shops carrucha mentioned and I'd recommend Hobbies Unlimited. I've been going there since about 1968. Holy cow that's a long time -
That's pretty amazing. Love the mix of traditional and contemporary styles. Great use of the Buttera kit parts. Are those the 2-piece tires that usually wont glue?

I have two models I purchased that were contest winners, one from the 60's and one from the middle 2000's. I would never consider displaying them at a show unless I explicitly credited them to the builder. I did the artwork for my ex-wifes business in 1982. Her logo was cribbed and is on the wall at countless salons....it's even used by the salon I get my haircuts at today. Maybe I'm just being irritable, but it feels like heck to have personal work stolen. I would never even thought of a copyright back then.

What are YOUR regrets ?
Draggon replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had saved everything, including the spare parts and decals, since my first model in 1962. In 2005 it looked like I was going to spend extended time away from home. I would have needed to rent my house. The girlfriend was not up to moving and storing all that model "stuff" so "we" put 80% of it in the garbage. I hadn't built a model in 30 years so I thought it would be ok. It wasn't. I ended up staying home, and started building again a year later. Then I found out what people are paying for kits and parts on ebay. -
That looks great! Nice to see the steel wheels on this, most folks use something less traditional.

I wondered how many A-body people would have loved to get the glass out of that one.

The era of gassers and street freaks
Draggon replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wrote a synopsis and somehow something got edited so it's no longer relevant. -
One of my duties at my old job was shipping and receiving, so I know how to pack things. Several years back I returned some vacuum cleaner filters the girlfriend didn't need. A week later the box comes back, looking like after USPS drove over it, they tied it to the bumper and drug it across town. Naturally the paper cone filters inside were destroyed too. I contacted USPS and of course they said that was the condition they received it in, and by the way, next time I should write the shipping address on the parcel. The box had been torn up so much the only identifying thing on it was my return address. My response was something like, do you actually think I shipped the box in that condition, and why are you blaming me for what you did? I got a four word response "we dont do that" followed by a disconnect, or hang up, or whatever.

I dig this. That Miss Deal chassis is incredibly universal

What happened to Cato?
Draggon replied to peteski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think he's off doing his writing and teaching gig. He's pretty famous in the Cuban-American community. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil_Suárez -
I enjoyed this one too
