Cool! I have my eye on those wheels, too. Just picked up the kit.

$41.95 - wow. I know inflation, etc., etc. But .... wow. This is just for the kit, in a commemorative box - or is there more to it? That aside - I'm glad this thread came up; I love the comparison of pros/cons of the different first Corvette kits. Monogram (or Revell) also released the '53 with decals (but not the correct wheels) for the Carrera Panamericana race. I think Fred Cady made a more complete set of decals. Someone briefly made aftermarket wire wheels that were correct. I had one of these transkits, but kind of lost interest and finally sold it several years ago on eBay. Might should have kept it! If you are able to find one, it is a beautiful casting. And since I've completely hijacked the thread - has anyone taken on the challenge of building this?

Really nice work on this. I only have one "big rig" in my stash, and it's this kit - I'm hoping to do a better job that I did when I was a kid. You've really created a fine presentation.

Another epic build! I love seeing these things. I think it's awesome and needs nothing else - maybe an antenna or two, or maybe not. It is really creative. And the body panels would discolor over time anyway, right? The rigor of flying ...

About a hundred years ago, Academy announced they were going to release a Shelby Daytona Coupe in 1/24 scale. Man, oh man, was I looking forward to that. But, alas, nothing ever came of it - correct? Thank you! Thanks! I enjoyed the build; although I think I made a few mistakes (surprise!) If you've built any 80's Monogram Kit, you mostly know what to expect. After painting, I realized that the trunk lines are missing (easy fix, if I had not already painted!) and the rear bumper "ears" should be removed. For a true "aero" look, the windshield would need to be modified a little bit to sit flush, but I didn't do that. I mounted it from the inside; and it fits well - but to truly be one of the aero cars, it would need to mount more flush. I "might" try this next time. Oh, and I did cut off the window net and I glued it directly to the body inside the side window. Probably not prototypical correct, but it really helped the look of the car. The stance could use a little tweak, but since it appears right on the driver's side and too high on the "passenger" side, I think that is something I did. All in all, a fun build, and I plan to do at least one more.
