  3. I'd go with the Cragars, fits the feel of the car much better. You have a real late 60's vibe going with the work you did and that 413 Mopar, the Cragars work better.

  9. FWIW, there is a seller on ebay who is parting these out already. I have NO connection to them, but I bought an extra interior. I am going to use the back seat to get a correct front one. It will take a little work to make a seat back, or cut the one of the kit front seat and fill in the center area (where the speaker?) is, but a viable solution to get a more correct, matching interior.
  10. I ordered one, should be in my hands Monday. I know nothing about the show. I like Chevys, but am not interested in 4 doors. I am thinking of using the non SS stuff on the new car with the SS to create a 2 door hardtop non SS. I am still hoping that we see a 2 door Bel Air or Biscayne as a future release if this does well.
  11. Thanks for all the responses! I am going with the stock intake and carbs from the kit. I have a good set of headers and a set of Johan M/T valve covers, which may not be right, but I like the way they look and are period correct.

  13. I just ordered decals to do this car using the AMT 1968 Roadrunner kit. I have a resin 727 trans, headers, a set of Cragars and ordered a set of the AMT Firestone 500 drag tires for it. My question is would this be a race Hemi, like the '68 Hemi Dart and Barracuda? Or would it have a street based inline 2x4bbl intake. I can't find any engine shots of this car or one like it. I can see from this pic it has a racing oil pan, is there a good one in scale? Any help appreciated.
  14. Last factory tri-power Pontiacs were '66, but in a modified car, anything is possible. Suppose you had a '72 and you terminally blew up the motor, a junkyard 421 or GTO 389 with a 3x2 set up might be a good theoretical swap, if you could find them. But, As Snake said, by '72 or later, a single or dual 4bbl set up on a 400 or 455 would be more likely. Or a BBC transplant for that matter.
  15. Here is the one my dad built when it was new, sometime in 1969 or early 1970. Paint is either AMT Lacquer or Pactra. It is the magenta/pinky purple metallic that was popular at the time. It also has the mag wheels from the kit on it, somehow I have another like new set in my stash......My dad died in 2012 and I have his models. This is one of his many built ups. I have NO intention of messing with any of his builds, they will stay the way they are as long as I am alive. There are a few that have fallen apart and I will repair them, but that is it. I kind of want to do the box art build to display with this one.
  16. I know the box art is just silly, but like I said, I always thought it was cool when I was a kid. Nostalgia is getting the better of me. I certainly would not do this to a nice original kit, or clean restorable built up, but since I am using an easily found kit and have the decals and left over parts, it seems right.
  17. That's true, and now seeing they were most likely pretty crappy, I will take your advice. Maybe I will use some of the new AMT slicks from the parts packs. I am also thinking about putting nicer wheels on it too, The ones that came with the GTO are not that nice. I might use the fronts, they look like spindle mounts and fit the straight axle. But I am thinking deeper American or Astro 5 spokes on the rear. The box art car is so cartoony it won't matter. Plus there is no side view of it anyway, so you can't even see the wheels. Thanks for the advice! I might actually start this soon. I am a little worried about the decals. They are reproductions I got on ebay. I don't remember who made them, but they may have been by Goochie. I tried using a similar set for another car a while back and it did not work out so well. If I actually get off my butt and do something, I will post pics. lol!

  19. Hi, I have an original MPC 1969 GTO hardtop that was my dad's. He built the kit stock, and I have the box, and all the custom and drag parts except for the drag slicks. Just wondering what they look like, I have checked around on the net, and can't seem to find pics of them. My idea is to use the drag parts from my dad's original kit and use the body from the more recent funny car and build a box art version using these parts. I have a 1970 GTO chassis, a motor with supercharger, the custom hood, the interior parts, front axle set up and repro decals, just don't know what the slicks look like. The pic is what I am shooting for. I know it is absurd, but I always thought it was cool when I was a kid, so I am going to try and build it. Any help with the slicks is appreciated!
  20. The Multi Maverick had those and I am pretty sure the new Dyno Don Cougar f/c does too. The Hot Rod Magazine, The Kalitta Mustang and probably a bunch of other F/C kits.
  21. There are guys like Paul Hettick and a few close to his caliber on ebay, that are "pro builders", the other stuff is laughable. As far as models like Steve's Plymouth above, I think it has a lot to do with what is popular and not the quality of the build. Clearly his model is awesome, but not everyone likes customs. That same car built to that standard (or not even as well) as a jacked up, psuedo gasser style of today would probably bring $$$ because they are in vogue right now. Same if it was an unusual replica stock resin body style such as a wagon or 4 door that was never kitted.
  22. I really like this. Great job! You nailed the patina look perfectly and you also captured the look of a home built hot rod of that era.
