USS Nautilus
bisc63 replied to unclescott58's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Hey, thanks for that info and the heads up on that website! Lots of cool stuff to peruse there. BTW, nice job on your sub! I have a soft spot for old kits, nostalgia I guess. I've picked up quite a few Lindberg plane kits, and a couple of old Revell, AND, I have a couple of sub kits, too! I found the Revell German sub that features a cut-away option at a hobby store a couple years back for cheap (old stock), and the Polar Lights Seaview from Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea. Was that Lindberg or Aurora originally? -
Man, I couldn't be happier than to see you back on this project! I even went back and watched that Phineas and Ferb video clip to stir up some good vibes.

Very mean looking rod, in a good way of course!

Ditto! It's like finding hidden treasure, is it not? I missed this one first time around, too, I guess. Beautiful model, beautiful car! I've got an old buildup of a convertible somewhere in the stash I need to bring closer to the bench. -

I'd call that a success on all counts! Great looking model, nice clean build. Well done.

...and another good read! Good looking little Spit' after the effort. I love your sentiment about building a Hasegawa if you want the details, but build a Matchbox for the simple modeling experience. As much as I love the Spitfire, though, I have to say I'm always a little let down by the clipped wing variants, aesthetically. That beautiful elliptical wing! I know it was an aerodynamic improvement, but something was lost. A well built model is a well built model, though, and you did the ol' girl right. Always fun to see a plain-Jane kit brought up to a high standard. Thanks again for sharing!

Beautiful build! When I picked up one of these kits, a buddy that was tagging along said, " You've GOT to build the stock version!" After seeing this and just how nice it can look, I tend to agree. You nailed the look perfectly! Very well done. -
Somebody had some wild imagination way back when! From the days of wild customs, it looks the part. Good color choice! Is that a Tamiya color?

Nice job! One of my favorite years and body style of Mustangs, and you even painted it the right color! ( Love me some red cars, looks bright red on my screen )

Rat removed from the Roaster: '32 roadster

+1 to all that has been said. Downright elegant colors for a Hot Rod! What car wouldn't look great in those colors?!! You have the Rodder's eye for sure. -
Came out SO nice! I really like that creamy, off-white interior; looks very authentic. Whole build is a tremendous success, and was fun to watch develop! Well done.

Off to a good start! Not my main interest, but as automotive engineering goes, they are interesting constructs. I have built ( for other people) a couple, and I believe that nowhere is it more important to dry-fit and test EVERYTHING before gluing to get the model to sit right. Looks like you're up to the challenge!

This one always reminded me of a the kind of car you would expect to see on the cover of Car Craft magazine in the mid-'70s. Very cool.

One gorgeous Chevelle, for sure! Classic Candyapple Red show-car effect. Car sits nicely, too. Very well done!

This is a fun build. A nostalgia build, for sure. One of my first ever model car builds was a Pyro or Palmer 49 Ford, 1/32 scale. Putty is definitely your friend on these kits! I'm really digging your modifications on this, and it should be quite a good looking little hot rod when finished. Shapes over all look pretty nice.

SO happy to see this one continuing! Excellent work.

I agree. The "wings" on the bumper ends don't add a thing in my book, that's why I'm omitting them on my 58 Plymouth build. I don't yet know if that was an option on these New Yorkers. I may omit them anyway, as I tend to build models to suit me, the way I'd do the car for myself if it were real, and not as strict replicas. I'm OK with 95% original! In side view, it sort of works to give visual similarity to the rear bumper, but the front view is vulgar.

I've tried half-round before as side trim, and I think the problem with it lies in the taper of the edges. When it's glued down, the edges want to blend and soften because they are thinner there. Pretty much every time I've had to go back and re-scribe and/or dress the edges with a file to redefine them, just like working on trim of an old-tool kit where everything is a bit too soft. Rectangular or round gives you better definition of edges to start with. If I use round, I like to scribe a line centered where I want the trim to go. This gives the rod something to grip as I'm gluing it down; makes positioning easier.

Great looking build; love the creativity that went into this! Needs rattier wheels IMHO, but very successful rat as is! Well done.

Nice! Thanks for posting those interior shots.

These really do look nice properly detailed. I love this build, especially for your color choice. That is a tasty blue! Well done.
