  1. For masking tape my preference is Tamiya masking tape. Sometimes in a tight space with a lot of detail I'll use the 10 mm wide tape and cover both sides of the trim. Burnish the tape on the trim and use a new #11 and cut away the tape at the chrome trim line closest to the area you are wanting to paint. The rest of the body can be masked with a larger size working from the 100 mm as a base. The taillights themselves you could use a small piece of tape to cover the lense and another around the mounting trim in a circular fashion and bend over the lense. Looking at the picture you have the lenses themselves may be the hardest part. I would mask off the silver painted area before trying to use and chrome paint for the trim in order to prevent any of the chrome paint from running onto the silver paint. After you have all of the cover area on the trunk lid looking the way you want it you can then go back and do your chrome foil on the outer surround trim. As for the Gundam pen, I have found it to not flow everywhere like I had with the Molotow. This may just be me, but I feel like I have better control of the application. Not everyone has the same experience with every product and I have seen many that swore by the Molotow pen and others swore at it.
  2. Like the color and the beautiful finish and trim. I agree with you about being a super car. There was a guy who had one in the late '60's and would drive by work sometimes in the morning. I can still remember the shrieking noise that the engine made as he went through the gears. Could make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
  3. Looks really clean in white with the gold interior. You mentioned the "lump of plastic" running along the bottom of the body. The Camaro offered many trim options, and this would have been part of one of those options. Just build it the way you like it. Like the little details like the one year only hub caps on the rally wheels.
  4. Great looking color and finish. What paint did you use?
  5. I agree with the flat silver/aluminum spray for the surround area and the foil for the outer trim around the area. The taillights in my mind would work best with the use of a chrome paint of some sort. The reason I think this way is that as moldable as foil can be there is just too many crevasses to have a smooth surface in all the of taillight lenses. Consider some of the Gundam Markers for this. I have started using their chrome marker for areas like this and, for me anyway, I have had better results. One idea to consider in the taillight lenses themselves would be to paint the chrome surround only and see what they look like with just that treatment before going over them with a chrome paint and clear red.
  6. I agree and would hope that could happen. The problem with Motor Trend TV is that they're also heavy on the reruns.
  7. All that and you still managed to put a great looking Corvette on the table. The Crager wheels add to the appearance as well.
  8. Great looking paint finish and the color reminds me of one they offered called Marina Blue and was really popular. Clean looking engine and chassis. Like the wood steering wheel.
  9. Some people are so starved for attention that they will do almost anything to get their mug on TV. They will run over to the car or truck being bid on and look inside and stand by the open hood as if they know what they're looking at, then walk away like it wasn't good enough for them. I have noticed that they really do get in the way of actual bidders at times.
  10. The Chiefs are going to Arizona!!!
  11. Like the theme and the roof rack looks great.
  12. Great attention to detail on the engine and chassis. Hinging the front end had to be a thrill. Great looking paint work.
  13. Great lowered stance and the color really look good together. Clean looking trim and interior.
  14. Forgot to mention that Ford also painted their Air Filter a flat low metallic Silver on cars with a paper element air filter. The Oil Bath style air cleaners were a semi-gloss black.
  15. Like the flat hood as it gives a cleaner, smoother look. The Choo Choo Customs that this kit is styled after had the add on hood scope that served no real purpose or function.
  16. I like the color and the metallic finish. You said you were open of wheel color. Try a couple of spruce or even scrape paper painted different shades of Blue or any other color you may have in mind. Hold them up in the wheel openings and see how they look to you. May help decide what to use on the wheels.
  17. I have to admit I wasn't too sure about your color pick at first, but seeing it done and polished it looks great. Like how you created the interior patterns and the white paint to match the Running Boards.
  18. As always, an amazing level of detail and use of some non-traditional materials.
  19. Check some of Tamiya's Military colors. The spray cans have an AS prefix for the part number. They are also available in brush paint as well. The finish is on the flat to semi-gloss side. Offered with several shades of Beige to Brown as well as some interesting Greens and even a Blue. I have used a few of the Beige colors before that may work well with your body color.
  20. Ford was painting their Y-Blocks of that era a medium Red with Black Valve Covers. The '54 introductory year Y-Block was a Yellow/Beige colored block.
  21. A thought on the white litters on the tires. Learned this years ago when the wrinkle wall slicks were in most kits. Use a sharp-edged tool and scrape the paint off the raised letters. This will allow the white plastic to show through and is a lot easier than trying to paint the letters.
  22. As for the show being cancelled, read on MSN this morning that is part of their programming strategy going forward this year. Seems they want to attract viewers to their new "rerun" strategy as opposed to any new programming.
  23. Just waiting for Ground Hog Day.
  24. Saw a little of the auction Saturday night. Outstanding looking cars and trucks with selling prices to match. Everything seemed like it was anyware from $100k more than at Mecum or even double in same cases.
