  1. What I have done, mostly on the under carriage, is to hold the object being painted at arms length and lightly spray some flat black or another dark color. This gives a very light coverage and a somewhat rough finish.

    '64 Dodge 330

I followed your build and really like how this turned out. Are this tires from the Boyd kit also ?? I like the tread pattern and would like to use some. The engine detailing of the inner fenders and firewall add a lot of realism. I will be using your idea on the fuel filters in the future, its getting hard to find diodes anymore.

    '64 Impala

Your replay peaked my interest and I had to go dig out an old AMT '64 Impala SS from the stash. You are correct about the exhaust manifolds being in the kit. There is also some nice headers in the chrome tree. I now think this detail has to do with AMT providing the wrong exhaust manifolds. Mine is an older issue #2203 on the box, the instruction sheet is starting to yellow. The instruction sheet depicts the kits manifolds, although they are incorrect for the engine in the kit. The W engine exhaust ports are at a different angle on the engine than the small block and a somewhat different shape on the 1:1. Also if you look at the engine emblem on the front fenders this is for a 327 cu.in. engine. The cars with the 409 engines would have had the numbers 409 above this emblem on the 1:1 Since they didn't offer any decal to depict this makes me wonder if during the design of this kit years ago AMT was thinking of offering it with the 327 engine instead of the 409. Revell's '64 Impala SS has a 327 engine when it was issued several years later. All that aside you still have a great looking build going and I only meant well in mentioning something that I noticed.
  4. I sold a large number of kits to a semi-local dealer a few years ago. I also was in a position where I needed money. As pointed out I was offered a low price per model but I did move a couple hundred kits at once and it was quick and clean. If you have any time at all I would recommend the E-Bay route and see if there is any model show/swap meets in you're area. I was at the Hartland Model Show in the Kansas City (Overland Park) area the first of June. I sold a couple hundred dollars worth and got more than I would if I had sold to a dealer. This may even give you some contacts that may want to buy something from you at a later time direct. I do hope this all works out for you both finding a new job and selling some of your kits that are duplicates or unwanted.
  5. Very nice build. Great color and finish. I like that you did something with the old "Blue Flame" 6 cylinder. Maybe some optional steak bed sides for the bed ??
  6. Looks great. Those are about the deepest wheels I've ever seen.
  7. Looks better this way. I like the wheels.
  8. Great looking build so far. I like the interior changes.

    '64 Impala

Build is moving wright along and the engine looks great. Not to be a rivet counter but you might want to rethink the exhaust manifolds. They appear to be small block manifolds on the 348/409 engine. Are these the manifolds from this kit ? The body looks like the Revell issue of the '64 which had a small block engine. If you used a "W" engine from another kit just go back and get those exhaust manifolds.

    '65 Impala

I like the deep Candy Apple color. This is a great kit of a very nice car. My buddy got a new '65 SS, Yellow with Black interior. In 'late '65 I got a new '66 Impala SS in Danube Blue with Black interior.

    The Black Pearl

Looks very intimidating, where did the Super Charger come from ??
  12. Great looking build. I'm not familiar with the Spirit model but remember a Surf model they offered at about that same time. Similar side stripe but with a Surfer in the stripe.

    VWRC

Well engineered chassis and drive train. Great paint and you almost don't notice the fenders. That would make a really fun 1:1.
  14. Great looking build. I like the engine setup. It really looks like it has set by the shore all to often.
  15. I really like the Flames. I usually can't say that, but these look different. Air Cleaner from a Mercedes maybe ?? Very cool build.
  16. Great looking Rust O Rod. The headers remind me of a Calliope. I wouldn't worry about the spark plug wires. On 1:1 modified Chevy engines with headers it's common to use 90 degree boots and run the wires above the headers.
  17. Very sharp clean build. As others mentioned with the photography it looks very realistic.
  18. Beautiful build and an outstanding paint finish. I have always enjoyed this model also. I like the style in which you built this.
  19. I'm not sure this would work, but Krylon has an indoor/outdoor paint called Corel Isle. It is close to the popular '55 Chevy color.
  20. I would also like to build a few boat models. I think it all boils down to the economics of it all. First the model companies would have to make a profit. There are almost as many different boat companies as auto, well maybe a quarter, but each offers many different hull sizes and power plants. Now how do you figure out which ones to offer that will sell at a profit ??
  21. Sorry to hear about the loss of your SAAB. I always thought they were an interesting car and looked better than the Subaru. That Volvo wagon should be a winner though.
  22. All these thieves need is the number. They then reproduce a card that looks just like yours and go shopping. Last spring my wife and I were getting the spring plants for the yard at Lowes. Our card was shut down by the card company. It seems some one was have a great time at a spa in England on us. They realized it was fraud, but until we called in they said they were not sure. They issued us a new card and number and that was that.
  23. Beautiful build. Looking at the finished model you would never know the challenges with the kit if you weren't familiar with it.

    Ford Woody

I like this a lot. The patina makes it look like a 5 or 6 year old car with little maintenance.
  25. Great looking Gasser. Nice to see something that dares to be different.
