Thanks for all the comments and thoughts. Very much appreciated. As you know I cleared the body last weekend. It was left to cure all week and last night I started polishing the clear out. I used a micro-mesh polishing cloth kit. I do one panel at a time being careful to stay away from the edges. I really like this Mr. Super Clear product. Goes on nice, polishes up like glass. Here's a couple pics of the body after the polishing............ Hope to get the hood painted today. Also figuring out the cooling system that I want to do. Janne, No, Only the blood line. My great grandfather and grandmother came from there. Have been told my last name is very strong fin. Funny thing, I can't speak a word in that language. Paul

That is a awesome finish! Love the body details. Your effort shows!

Nice!! Very clean looking build!

And here it is with the clear. I'm trying some different clear than what I normally use. It's called Mr. Super Gloss. I'm sure you have heard of it before. This stuff is just about like using Tamiya clear (this is what I normally use). First shot a light coat and then two wet coats. Came out pretty good....... Happy to say the tape didn't pull off the bmf! .............. Polishing is next. Getting ready to do the hood. Just a small issue to take care of and it will get paint. Thanks for the comments. More to come.....................

Made some progress on the body over this last weekend. First, The bmf around the side windows was finished up. Also did the front park lamp housings. Started getting it ready for clear. I'm praying the tape won't pull the bmf off the rear panel. I tested it a few times and it seems to be ok when I pull the tape up, but who knows............ And it's ready for the clear...............

Added the arms and little rod to connect them. The other side of the hat will have the throttle arm...... I know at one point that the engine was fitted and had it sitting in the chassis just the way I wanted it to, but for some reason I sat the engine in there and it was crooked. Low and be hold it turned out to be the exhaust causing the problem. Fixed that and put the engine in and worked on the hole in the hood some. In this last photo, you'll notice the letters BDS on the PE butterfly's in the hat...... That's it for now. More to come. Thanks for looking!

It's been a couple months since the last update. I have been able to put in a little time here and there and made some head way working on the fuel system on the engine. In some of the previous updates I show a injector hat that I was originally going to use but changed my mind. This is the one I'm using.......... I made a barrel valve to mount to the hat. Using some fittings I had in my stash, I made up the fuel lines to the hat and the base of the intake manifold. The line is fishing line that has a metal core that holds it shape real good. Plus as you unroll it, it changes color so you know how deep you are. It just happen to have this brown color. Had to drill out the fittings as the ID was smaller than the line. And both lines are in place.....

Then the sanding took care of the rest. And this is the result...... In this picture you can see how the transition to the cove turned out. You will also notice that there is no filler or putty work as everything was done with superglue only. It's ready for primer but will wait till the engine details are finished up so the hood can be trimmed here or there to fit. Thanks for looking and more to come...................

Also worked on the last body part, The hood. A hole was opened up for the supercharger to poke through. It was opened up big enough to see what was going to be needed to clear everything. The hood looked to flat to me. It needed something to help cover more of the supercharger and give some height to the hood. Looked through my junkyard of hoods and decided the hood from the 1967 chevelle max rat would lend itself perfectly. The hood was cut apart and the leftover part was shaped with a file, placed on the hood and marked where it was to be opened up to fit the new part.......... Then the hole was cut in the hood to fit the new part. The stock charger hood has what I would call a cove (or recess) on both sides so had to figure out how to deal with those.......... Before the part was to be glued in, the injector hat hole had to be cut..... Now that the part was glued in, it was time to deal with transition to the coves. What ended up being done was to cut slots in the hood to accept a piece of sheet plastic.........

Got a little more done the past few weeks. Was wanting to get the engine finished but that didn't happen. But here's what I did get done and it was one of the bigger things I had to do to the engine. I had already did the fuel lines at the base of the injector hat but needed to do the lines at the base of the manifold. Here are a couple pictures of how it turned out........ More to come................

Thanks for the comments and following along. I'm looking forward to finishing this project. I do have another update, kind of part 2 of my last post. Tubbs......Your right! Seems like I hit third...Not sure though....Still grinding its way in.....When the noise stops it should be in third(I hope) On the console top, I figured where the shifter will go and drilled the hole and added a couple notches. It was primed and painted body color and cleared. It was glued in and the shifter mounted. The passenger seat was put in also.... Then the rollcage was put in for the final time.............. And here's with the dash just mocked up. The steering column still needs to go in and that's in the works. That's it for now, More to come............... Paul

Things have finally slowed down a bit and with summer coming to a close I have been able to get some time behind the bench. It sure is fun picking up where you left off after 2 months. If anything it gave me time to figure a few things out. When I left off, I was working fitting the shifter to the console. The position of the shifter was off from where I wanted it. The console top had already been painted and foiled so the bare metal and paint was removed . A separate console top plate was made to fit into the console. Doing this allowed me to locate the shifter where ever I wanted and covered the holes I didn't want. As can be seen in the last picture, Something needs to be done with the floor. The only color I have that would look any good on the floor is embossing powder. But before applying the powder, Bmf was used on the chrome trim at the base of the console. Afterward, I carefully brushed on MM flat clear acryl. Once the clear was in the area I wanted, I just poured the powder right out of the jar onto that area and waiting about 2 min and just tapped it out onto a napkin. Then went on to the next area. Here's a picture of what it looks like with one coat..... And this is after three coats. In this photo, The front floor has been top coated with the flat clear to seal it so loose pieces won't haunt me later.... Also worked on the front seats getting them painted and also painting the headrests and mounting them to the seats. I used the existing seat belts covering them with ribbon and bmf. The console top was covered with bmf an glued to the console........... Thanks for looking, More to come............... Paul

My dad had one of these. Brings back some good memory's. Great job and thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for all the comments. I must say, when I started building this model, my intension was to build a quick, simple model and not get too carried away. Ya right! I always seem to have to make changes on certain areas of my cars. And this one seems to be no exception. This is taking a lot more time than I ever thought it would and it's hard to put in the time I want to behind the bench right now. I guess what I'm saying is thanks for following along and posting your comments. I'll get this thing done but just slow going at the moment. Tubbs............You always post some really good ideas and advice. I don't mind you using any of my ideas. I think its great that you find them useful on your builds. Thanks tubbs Paul

Haven't had a lot of time behind the bench. But I did manage to get something done for a small update. Worked on the front grill last weekend. I knew I had to deal with this part sooner or later. Being that the headlights are chrome, I had to take on the task of fixing that little problem. Went through the parts box for some lens's that would fit the hole that was going to be in the grill after the headlights are drilled out. Everything I came up with is to big, so they will be have to be cut down to fit. So here's the grill.......... Let's remove them ugly headlight's. I first used a #11 blade and carefully opened up the hole and then used a file to finish the job... For the back side of the headlight, a paper punch was used to make the round backing I needed. These parts will get covered with BMF and the head of a small pin will be placed in the center.... And after some hugging and kissing the lens's and a couple hour's to finish it up, this is what is now going on the front of the car. Thanks everyone for the comments and will have more soon. Paul

In 1976 I bought a 1966 nova gasser race car. Drove it on the street. Its like what's been said "must have all the stuff to make it street legal and to drive it on the street". My car was just like that! I think that your '58 is a excellent choice to build a gasser out of. Dare to different!!
