The Other Magazine Forum
mikemodeler replied to TarheelRick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think many of us would agree that this forum has more traffic and meaningful information than the SA forum. Sadly, as Danno pointed out, a previous editor/moderator of the SA forum did a lot of harm and drove away many good people there with his management style. Rules are a little bit looser here (unless you point out the lack of a magazine) and for the most part it tends to be a place where ideas, tips and information about the hobby are shared openly. As far as a magazine, Gregg has his work cut out for himself to get MCM back on a regular schedule. It's been discussed at length so I won't bring up the history but will say that as much as some people want a hard copy to hold in their hands, Gregg has a better chance of success if he goes the digital route. -
Chevy truck cab lights
mikemodeler replied to Greg Wann's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If these turn out half as good as the bodies you cast, we are in for a real treat! Thanks for letting us know what you have "cooking" in that pressure pot Greg! -
That looks nice, digging the color choice! I wonder if flocking the rear cargo area would have covered up the ejector pin marks? I like what you did with the piece of styrene.

Good deal for someone in central NC

Headed in that direction tomorrow, but nothing of interest to me. -
So, any hot babes pics you wanna share? LOL!

Replicas and Miniatures
mikemodeler replied to Brutalform's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Sent an email to Norm on 9/20, he responded the next day with prices and availability, including a couple of things that were no longer on his price sheet. Gave him the go ahead, added a couple of extras and he is shipping the order out this coming week. I can't say enough about how he conducts business and the quality of his product. For those of you who question whether or not to order, my experience should put any worries to rest. Norm does things the old fashioned way, but it works and it is worth it. Much like when Don and Carol Holthaus ran The Modelhaus, sometimes not having the fancy website isn't a bad thing. And as a reminder, Norm isn't getting any younger and I suspect if he decides to retire, he will have a similar situation as Don and Carol did with orders, so as it has been said before- "If you see something in resin, the time to buy it is now because it might not be there tomorrow!" -
Email them, I have had excellent service from Olson Bros. and good communication. It could be your order slipped through the cracks, maybe it shipped and got lost, maybe they forgot.

That is very nice! I love the details and the way you updated it without going overboard. I have a resin body from Olson Bros to build and need to get going on it, this could be the inspiration to do that! -
Hobby Lobby Summer 19 clearance
mikemodeler replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped at a HL in SC today on my way home. While I did not see any clearance priced models, someone had priced one of the Yenko Nova kits at $22.99 so with my coupon I was out the door with that kit for about $14.50! -
Probably safe to say that the struggles of hobby shop survival mirror those of a magazine. While subscriptions help, having a retail outlet definitely help with the sale of a magazine.

Replicas and Miniatures
mikemodeler replied to Brutalform's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I sent Norm an email on Thursday night and he replied yesterday afternoon with availability and pricing. He was able to find a couple of molds for parts previously offered but not on his current price sheet so that made my day! -
Yeah, I was guessing that it is a million dollar wrecker. Whatever it cost, it ain't cheap to operate either!
-
I can only imagine what something like that cost. I would think the operating costs would be up there too! Nice truck .

Norm at Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland had one in his catalog, might be worth a phone call to see if he still has em!
-
I don't recall those wheels and tires being that great, might have to wait and see. It's a shame the body is not right in this kit.

Replicas and Miniatures
mikemodeler replied to Brutalform's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
In looking over his newest price sheet I am concerned that a few items that were in his old catalog might not be available any more. I will be calling Norm tomorrow to find out for sure. -

77 GMC Crew Cab Dually
mikemodeler replied to Nbseddie's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice start to a great looking ride. If you are looking for stock style dually wheels, check out Scenes Unlimited. If you want something more custom, a trip down the toy aisle at WalMart might yield something to your liking. There was a company that used to resin cast a crew cab dually, but they are long out of business and have yet to see anyone offer this since. -

mikemodeler replied to Dentz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Tops were metal, rusting out was a common problem for the body and top on these trucks. Most vehicles from the mid 70's seemed to be plagued with the problem. Nice job on this build, excellent weathering ! -

He is one of the finest gentlemen this hobby has and is great to deal with. You can rest assured what ever you order from him will be top notch and worth the money. -
