Got my order from Danny at Scenes Unlimited today, although I won't be home until Friday. Have an order coming from Fireball and Olson Bros too, looking forward to seeing them soon!

65 F100 4wd Conversion
mikemodeler replied to Rusty92's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have thought the same thing, just haven't had the time to mock it up as I have both the F-100 Utility Bed kit and a Fireball conversion kit. -
Lifetime Subscription Progress
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's see the long awaited return of the magazine first. I was under the impression that Gregg has been assembling several issues and the last part of them was to raise the cash to print them. Allegedly the subscriptions are sold out ( and a few extras were bought too) so all that should be left is to print and mail the magazine. I understand that printing a magazine isn't the same as going down to Staples and making a few copies, but it sure would be nice to get an update from Gregg, maybe even a teaser of what to expect. -
1975 Datsun Pickup (1/25)
mikemodeler replied to Gumball's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Later this year the Buick GNX will be out, that would make for a great engine swap. Otherwise maybe a late model Z motor swap? -
Hobby Lobby Summer 19 clearance
mikemodeler replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Went to two different HL today, one had some kits left on markdown while the other hadn't done theirs yet. Snagged a IH Scout, need some parts from it and also grabbed another Mountain Goat, likely for parts to rebuild some other Jeeps. -
Today has a different feel for me, most likely because my son's National Guard unit is in training for their overseas deployment later this year. In years past we would celebrate today by attending a parade as a family and watching fireworks, all while knowing that our freedom has come at a heavy price. Starting as a Freshman in HS JROTC, my son has been involved in the military for 10 years now and it truly is his calling as he has known this is what he's wanted to do for a long time. We are proud of his decision to serve, sad because today doesn't feel the same and know that next July 4th will be like today as he will still be deployed, but know in our hearts that he is where he wants to be. I am thankful for our vets who have done what so few of us are/were willing to do. To our members here who are vets, thank you.

Maybe once Gregg gets the magazine back up and running an article/interview with someone at HL HQ about how they decide what to carry could be done? I find it interesting that some kits you wouldn't think would be there are and ones you expect to be there aren't.

Just got "the other mag" yesterday and it had me wondering how much longer before Gregg is able to publish and distribute the magazine? I sure hope his silence is an indication of how busy he has been getting the issues ready! -
A Better Grill
mikemodeler replied to bill lanfear's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Found some stuff that will definitely get my lunch money! I see the longbed panels for the 60-66 GM trucks, do you have plans to make the bed floor too? -
Fourth of July Chevy pick up
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job on that old pickup. I am sure it will be appreciated! -
That is true, if one is striving for period correct drivetrain. That Dana 60 is available in resin if one doesn't want to buy a whole kit just for a rear end. I think all of the parts might be available at B-N-L resin.

Testors and Model Master
mikemodeler replied to ewetwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For most of us, mastering a good or great paint job is one of the hardest parts of this hobby. My only advice is to practice, practice, practice! Find a particular brand and master it. I use a lot of Tamiya spray cans as I get good results but have also had my problems when I rush it. Many times I get a great shine from Tamiya paints without clear coating and forgo doing so at the risk of ruining them. If you build for yourself like I do, then trying to get an award winning shine isn't as important as completing the build. -
In the truck section there is a build going on right now of a 4x4 "burban and I am sure if you contacted the member, he would share with you how he did his. I am not aware of any resin conversions, but one of the Olson Bros. built one as well and it may be something they are looking to do. Just as a FYI, the MPC Deserter pickup can be built at stock height. The 'lift" is a result of extended shackles to raise truck, so it is up to you if you want it stock or lifted. It may be suitable as a drivetrain donor to convert the Burban, haven't looked at it yet.

1966 Ford F250 Service Truck
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I was wondering earlier today when we would see one of these trucks built and BAM! Chuck to the rescue! Nice job, love the updates and the ladder rack is a nice touch. Thanks for the inspiration Chuck, gotta get my butt building! -

Are they both same type pf paint? (Lacquer or enamel) As Jim mentioned, do a test on a scrap piece to see. -

Very brave to step out of your comfort zone Jim! Nice work and I am sure it was quite the learning experience, many of us might not be as adventurous! -

megahobby back order
mikemodeler replied to s10chevypu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Checked the MegaHobby website today and they show these available for shipping. They did bump the price up a dollar from when I pre-ordered them in February. -
Would love to find a kit of one of these a bit more reasonably priced. I drove one of these in high school working at the Mercedes/BMW dealer, we used it to pull cars in from the back lot and run errands. Never worried about getting a speeding ticket, but it had no problem going thru snow or mud!

Uhhh, I don't know, that resin caster seems a bit sketchy.........JK, he's one of the best!

megahobby back order
mikemodeler replied to s10chevypu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just got an email from MegaHobby that my pre-order of 2 kits is shipping today, so with any luck I will have them by Saturday. -
My thoughts exactly! Unless the car is on a mirrored base or displayed upside down, will it matter? I can see complaining about kit inaccuracies that are visible when displayed, but it was explained earlier by Tim Boyd why this kit has the wrong rear end in it.

Body dimensions are off, rear taillight panel is off, I could go on and on but if you are looking for a 69 Camaro kit, Revell is the way to go.

That is one turd that no amount of polish will help. Not even sure if it's worth buying for some of the parts (engine, wheels/tires) as the Revell kit is so much better in so many ways.

megahobby back order
mikemodeler replied to s10chevypu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I pre-ordered 2 of them around the same time. I emailed them the other day and got a response from their sales department that they should be shipping early July. Not sure why some places have them before others, but it ain't like I was needing them to build something this week!
