Another MCM Editor is Onboard
stitchdup replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If its any help to the mag, there's a company in the uk called american auto mags that might be a good place to get the relaunched mag stocked in. They specalise in us auto mags and usually stock the other one. It would certainly make it easier for those of us in the uk to get the mag, and they go to lots of car shows so would maybe provide a little free promotion in the uk by doing so -
'mod' cars from Chrysler
stitchdup replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I kinda like the look of some of them, mstly the more muted colours than the in your face colours and with the matching interior it kinda works, but then i grew up seeing interiors like that in bugs -
Time attack is one of my fav motorsports, probably one of the only trully unlimited classes left (the others would be pikes peak and bonneville). Where else would you see a fwd civic almost match an f1 time around suzuka, or lamborghinis getting their rear handed to them by a stockish looking celica.

Its not just lowest common denominator. I'm only in my mid 40s and i see most of the generation behind me trying to do simple jobs at work and failing, but I don't blame them. When I went to school we were taught to think, had real homework that wasn't multiple choice. I'm the nightwatchman on a boat now and the younger ones that do the day shift haven't learned anything useful to the job. We often have alarms go off (boats being refitted) and at least twice a week i get woken up to be asked how to turn the alarms off so i have them marked and numbered in the order they have to use. I'm the cleaner usually but they ask me because they just dont know what to do, and I'm happy to help them learn something thats useful to them even though its not my job. Today the one guy said about his brakes making a funny sound and he was going to spend a few hundred pounds getting a garage to fix them, so I took in a haynes manual for him and said to get his dad to help him fix them. He looked at me like I was insane for suggesting fixing it himself when he could pay someone to do it. I didn't tell him anything about the repair except to read the instructions a few times and he'd soon figure it out but if he doesn't I'll be happy to give him a hand on my days off. But give the same guy a computer and he can run circles around me. I know a lot of people put down the younger generation, but those same people that put them down wanted to pay less taxes and education is the first thing governments cut. We should be investing in their futures because it benefits us all in the long run. We blame the kids but its us that messed up their futures, want to go to college? well you have to go in debt first which means many kids that could be the next einstein or tesla just dont get the opportunities we got.

This is why you should always make sure your brakes/spectacles are in good working order (delete as appropriate)

some of the lambos do seem kinda smaller than you would expect them to be, I'm not very up on the versions but there was one at a show i went to and it didn't seem much longer than a focus wagon, but much fatter

Tamiya and testors cement issues
stitchdup replied to jamesG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I find the same with black styrene, it always seems to be that bit harder than the other colours. I have had some success by putting a small amount of poly cement on both faces you are glueing, and let it sit a few minutes before putting together. Generally if its black plastic i go for generic superglue from the pound/dollar shop -
Another alternative to bare metal foil
stitchdup replied to R. Thorne's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
yes, the ones i have come on rolls of 30ft each. The first couple of wraps around the roll dont stick too well but once you get about a foot into the roll it works well. I havent managed to get it to go around tight corners too well but for gentle curves it works well and it needs to be burnished down a little more than bmf does. I wouldn't call it an alternative to bmf though, I think it works better for adding detail to a paint job. The same place does fingernail decals that work well for doing seat trim but to do an interior you'd need 4 or 5 packs. I'll see if i can find a link later -
cool, i think it was worth the hassles you had with it

Hi folks, I am currently working on the above kit and there doesn't seem to be a colour call out for the interior floor. Can anyone help?

Another alternative to bare metal foil
stitchdup replied to R. Thorne's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
you can get rolls of bmf in the nail varnish section on amazon. they come in packs of 20 or more colours and some have a turned gold/silver leaf look to them and being designed for nail varnish they work great with auto acrylics. the last set i got was 30p (50 cents) with free shipping from china. Dont be tempted to get more than one at a time though, the shipping on 2 packs would have been £15!! so I did them all as seperate orders to get the free shipping -
Adding a "crease" to a model car body?
stitchdup replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would probably try some tape along the bottom edge of the crease, then block sand the crease in, moving the tape to the top edge and doing the same again (sand it away from the tape for a good edge). It wont take very much to make it show as a sharper edge but make sure there is enough thickness to the plastic first. The tamiya white stretch tape is good for this, or masking tape with the top covered in ordinary sticky tape -
Hows about 4891 tonnes? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/sciencetech/video-1471485/Watch-record-breaking-mover-transport-4-891-tonne-evaporator.html the heaviest uk load is only 640 tonnes though https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2508878/Biggest-load-transported-Britains-roads-weighing-SPACE-SHUTTLE-crawls-destination-4mph.html I was always quite taken by the older vehicles they used in the uk, unfortunatetly I cant link the pic to the site direct so it has to be another web link https://www.flickr.com/photos/a-l-e-s/5257552686/in/pool-1221581@N22

Theres a couple of car shows that are all right. one is called car spotting and the other is rust valley restorers. I enjoyed their marvell series, punisher and luke cage were probably the best 2 imo but they might be gone now disney took over the franchise. Theres also a code in settings you can possibly change that opens up everything but its been a while since i've used a tv box so it might not be there now, but it was shown in a you tube video how to do it. They had some movies out in februry that were pretty good too, one with chris hemsworth i cant remember the proper name for but it had a number in the title (possibly 6 underground but i may be wrong) One thing i noticed when i was using a box was some of the descriptions were very poor and made the movies sound bad but they were actually pretty decent. Old guard is pretty recent if you want a sorta version of highlander. Rotten tomatoes is a good way to find netflix movies and get better descriptions

I'm very sorry you are having to go through this Carl. Its very hard to see someone you care deeply about in such a struggle. At the moment all you and your family can do is be there and support each other through this difficult time. My granny had the same thing happen to her so I sympathise dearly with you
