Falcon Ranchero kit
Sledsel replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I really like this kit, but under hood is lacking so I have a correct shock tower assembly I am working on for this kit (and 66 Mustangs) I hope to get it done and have someone cast it or I may try myself since I have several of each kit. Never casted a thing, so it could get interesting. With the Ranchero's wheel well removed flush at the frame, this fits right in with no other mods, but filler panels will be made to fit on each build. Master cylinder and heater blower cover needs added after, trans tunnel needs cut, and the radiator support has tabs to pull the shock towers in slightly. The top of battery will be the battery tray after some work. -
86 monte carlo dirt st.stock

I love this build. Cannot wait to see her slinging dirt! Can I toss in some advise? Get some 1/48, 'O' scale, 7/8 head Archer rivets (made for railroaders) for along those side skirts, spoiler, nose, ect. I used the 1/2" head rivets on a truck build and they look good but to small so the 7/8 should be good. -
I think you are doing a great job.
-
That interior is looking great.
-
Ya did a great job on it!! The most glaring screw up (not by you) is the same thing Revell did with the 57 Ford's The front is too bulky. The grill is too tall on this kit and makes the bumper too low and gives it that Mack truck looking front end. The bottom of the bumper should be about even with the bottom of the doors not the rockers. I have this kit in my stash but have not done anything since I have not figured out how to correct this yet. The Ford is the same way, but the header above the grill is too thick below the headlights.

Lowering the rear on this kit is as easy as blocks made similar to a 1:1, but the frame will limit how low you can go without surgery. The metal axle front will drop pretty low but the suspension is almost touching the ground. FYI's
-
Kinda thought that about the fenders. How did you drop the rear?
-
That is a good looking Ranchero!!!
-
I will thank you for that tip, I just picked up a few of these myself
-
I am gonna see what you do with this. Was thinking of grabbing one but really do not like the rear with that reversed pan instead of a molded bumper. Any other mods planned?
-
I wanna know how you keep your workspace so tidy..... mine usually looks like a mini scrapyard. Any reason you removed the fender contours? Just wondering, those are tell tale signs of a 46-46 Ford.

The seller of the 69? Impala junkyard may not know kits or cars. People buy at flea markets and garage sales in hopes to flip something good. I was lucky and found a listing very similar in the past. 1966 Galaxie junkyard with box. They had a few pics with contents in the box (they did not remove anything) Stated they did not know if it was complete. After looking VERY closely, I bid. I ended up with a complete, unbuilt 68 Galaxie fastback for $10 and shipping. -

I just love builds like this. First it is a Saturday night special, second it is saving an old beat up kit. -
Kits they never issued- but should have

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.... understood -
I really like that Cougar, and it looks really well done, but the roof, opera and quarter glass is not correct. It needs a bit more of an angle to it and the top of the rear quarter glass is a little bit narrower. Just an FYI, not nit picking. I still like it

Those are always fun builds. Great job on them! -
Anybody ever seen or heard of this kit ?

I have seen pics of the Black Beauty and was not impressed by it at all. Even if I really wanted a Black Beauty, I would not pay what the kit above is bid at. -

I thought this subject was for kits shown and or announced that never made the light of day. -
Yup.... so I am holding a little hope for the 71 Mustang
-
No, not the Mustang... Chopped 48 Ford, 49 Merc and 57 Fords come straight to my mind
-
Very nice... i like the way incorporated the side scoops from the 58 Chevy.
