Ford Bronco and Ranger Are Coming Back!
stavanzer replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the photo, Dan. Not much of a truck is it? All Cab, No Bed. And those huge, very stylish wheels that require $500.00 tires when they wear out. I'm not liking it much. -
That makes sense, Art. Glad to have learned more about my favorite Ford engine. Thanks for the History lesson.

Got any Pics? I wonder what tires they put in? The same as the Fuzz Duster?

Repuoposing left overs
stavanzer replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great Job. I was just at Habitat for Humanities "ReStore" and saw some cabinets that would have made great benches. Sad that garage is full, and my wallet empty. -
No Bill. Far from being offended, I'm grateful to learn more! That is one of the best things about this forum. I can learn from others when I might be(am) mistaken. That is wonderful Information. Can I ask a question though? Why the vastly different shapes between the Revell Riley and the AMT Riley? Two Different Kinds? Different Era's? I prefer the 'look' of the AMT but the Revell is definitely the better engine. TIA, Alan

There was an article in SAE years ago where Tim Boyd showed off the options for hopped up Ford T and Ford A engines. Basically you have one T option. The Frontenac OHV head and carb in the many versions of the AMT 1927 Ford T Touring kit. These parts are all in chrome, and pretty easy to find. For Model A's you have two kits to choose from. Revell and AMT. All the Hop Up parts look to have been restored to the AMT kit in the Mod Rod that is out now. They are the Riley Head, Twin Downdraft Carbs, and a Two Pipe 'zoomie' header. This Riley/ carb setup is authentic to the early 1930's, or so I have read. The Revell A-Bone engine comes with either a Two Port Riley Head or a Winfield flat head. The Dual Carbs, and Four Pipe 'zoomie' header are shared between both version of the kit. There is also a Winfield Side Cover included. The Riley head in this kit represents a later (1950's?) style head as might have been found on the beaches of SoCal, back in the day. There is also one other vintage Ford Four Banger. The AMT 1932 Roadster has a stock only Model B engine. it is only 5 pieces, but not bad. Note that the Distributor is molded to one of the engine halves and using any of the hup up parts from the A will take some surgery. The Model A engines can be built stock of course. The Revell engine has more parts and is more finely engraved than the AMT version. However there is more fettling involved in getting the Revell engine to look good than is needed for the AMT. I have many copies of each kit and engine, and both will work when properly detailed. I will take a guess, and predict that there is a thread over at the H.A.M.B board that covers the specifics of the Riley heads in far more detail than my limited, second hand knowledge.

Lindberg Diamond Duster Wilhem's Wonder King "T"
stavanzer replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bob, I don't see the Cushenberry Silhouette being released for a while. A quick look on the 'Bay shows several for sale and some pretty cheap. That tells me that there may not be enough demand for that kit yet. As far as the Tognotti T and Wilhelm's kit, well others have told you where they are now. The Ice Cream truck was just out, that gives you that chassis. Both the Chuck Miller Fire Truck and the Outcast are pretty easy to find as well. Look for Built up of the King T and Wonder on the 'Bay and at Swap meets. You can salvage the bodies and get the new chassis from the more recent kits. As for what Round2 will do next from a Showrod perspective, I think it is anybody's guess what will happen next. Without any confirmation of sales numbers from Round2, there is no real way to determine if the Showrods they have released have sold well enough to pay for them selves. My un-educated guess is that they have not, and they are a labor of love, more than a decent revenue stream. I could easily be wrong. For all the clamor about running more old kits of this type, the market for "Thingie" vehicles is smaller subset of an already shrinking market. I'm glad and grateful that these have been re-done, but I'm always pleasantly surprised when another is announced. I've found that my own tastes have shifted in the last ten years, and I'm slowly selling off most of my Showrod kits. I've only bought a couple of the 'new' Round2 Showrod kits. -
Follow the directions

I joined that club too. I remember the Lander, Airliner and Viking Ship. I started with the H-19 Helo. Nice walk down memory lane. Thanks. -
1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep
stavanzer replied to Art Anderson's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I just found this build. Great work, Art! I like the skinny tyres, and the red wheels. It looks like it could have come from a Southwestern Ranch in Arizona or New Mexico in the 1950's. -
Would anyone want to see 70 Charger pics?
stavanzer replied to mod3l Lover's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah. but I'd really like to see pics of what's actually in the box of the Charger. Tim Boyd did a great review of the Piranha Spy Car, David, but I have not even heard of that Camaro kit. Cheers, Alan -
Do the green and black clamps, mean it has and engine? Man, I gotta get one of these.

revell 4Q2016 Release Annoucement
stavanzer replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, I have the original issue of the kit. I know what's inside, and the box art will not stop me from buying more. But, people who have not seen the kit before.... They are as likely to be turned off by the visibly bad execution, as they likely to be excited by the concept.. And, don't get me wrong. I like the Idea of the art. The action racing scene shows the car off in a natural and compelling way. It just appears (to me) that the final product is the result of a lousy artist. The Bronco kit has the same problem, especially regarding the tire treads. I don't mind the paintings, just get better artwork. See Moebius boxart for how is should be done IMHO. -

stavanzer replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The cover art for the Black Widow, looks incredibly Lame. Nice Concept, but it looks like it was done by an Art School Drop-Out. Look at the Oddly Round Front Wheel. This kit and the Bronco both have observably Sub Par Box Art. Not Sure why, but it needs to be stopped, and soon. This Amateur Hour, Grade School work has no place on $25.00 Kits. -
I have the Latest Round2 Cuda. It does have the Recall Wheels. Mine will go an a Superbird.

Brian James Trailer *UPDATED* 8/23/16*
stavanzer replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Junkman, good to know. I was just going by the pics. Well, back to Square One, I guess. -
If I'm counting correctly, there will be 12 tires in this box. Four Wide Whites, Four GT Radials, 2 Narrow Pie Crust Slicks, and 2 Wider Slicks. That's Worth the price of admission by itself.

Brian James Trailer *UPDATED* 8/23/16*
stavanzer replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking at this trailer, I wonder if it would make a good base to convert to haul the 'new' Pyro/Lindberg boats. They are supposed to be fairly large, but this trailer has two axles and looks stout. Might be a plausible beginning, anyway. And by backdating the wheel rims, taillights and bumper, I could see it as a 1960's unit. Worth a thought. -
Del, we got the 79/80 Pinto wagon because MPC would update the body tool every year. From what I've read, for an MPC Pinto, that is all that's left. So, I don't think we'll see any other year Pinto from Round2 using the MPC tooling. However, AMT tooling for a Pinto may still exist. Not knowing what AMT tooled, I have no idea what Body style/Year it might be, but there is where I'd place my hope for another Pinto. As far as Craftsman Kits, I'm not a buyer for those, although I understand the pull they have for others. From chatter over at other boards, I suspect that what you see now (from Model King/ Dave Burkett} is all there is left. But, Round2 does surprise, so there is hope. After all did anybody ever expect to see a "Streetle Beetle" again?

Fuzz Duster - Round 2 serves it up LAME!
stavanzer replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh. Man, what a great review. I've already started mine. The fit is typical MPC, but it has been smooth sailing so far. I'm going all out and using every Flare, Scoop and the Biggest Spoiler in the kit. I've scavenged some great 1980's Deep and Deeper 5 Spoke rims for it. This kit will yield a superb example of the Malaise era Kruiser. Thanks for the great peek in the box, Adam. Another Winner from Round2. Now bring on that Squad Rod Nova. -
Carl. Just buy the Decals from Round2. Go to the website and print out the form for ordering replacement parts. Decals are about 3-4 dollars a set. It's worth it. Service is quick.
-
Ace Norton has the right of it. I'll bet he is about 100% correct on the contents, of the kit. I only hope that Round2 ditches the 1980's wheels and restores the rims that were in the kit originally. I don't know that there is much else that could be put back into the kit. I'm in for One, at least.

So, the best I'm gonna get by combining the 39/40 Fenders, grille and hood with a 40 Coupe is a "1939-ish" Coupe. Better make is a Street Rod then, as mistakes won't matter. (as Much, anyway) I keep wondering when Round2 will return to the 1940 Ford Kits. The only one they have not put their distinctive "Spin" on is the 39/40 Sedan. I'm in for a whole bunch of them, as the Sedan is my favorite of all the 40's. New Decals, maybe those new narrow slicks from the Mod Rod, and a few restored parts to spice things up. 'IF' it ever happens, it will sell really well. I am glad to see the '57 and the '49 Ford come back. I wonder what else is waiting?
-
Those Lindberg Showrods are 1/32 scale. Supposedly they will have Chrome parts, for the first time in their history. Really just simple, almost toylike kits, good for a weekend slump-buster.
-
Don Sikora is correct. It was one of the first kit RE-Issued by Round2. I need another one now, anyway, LOL.
