Thanks for the photos and tips gentlemen. I have been debating about purchasing one of these and had not seen the "raw" state they come in. Definitely a display engine in my mind not to be hidden in an engine bay.
The 2 Welly Porsches I ordered arrived this afternoon and I am very pleased with them. The 911 is the 1964 901 model and the 959 is the street version of the 961 racing car. I will do a review of each of them once the excitement wears off.
I agree with ACE that the Johnson 550 is better than the Flintstone version. Here is John Johnson (Teapot Graphics) 550 as built up. Somewhere there was a discussion once about what the Flintstone resin 550 was based upon with the unusual rear deck but I can't find it at the moment.
Wow, thanks to Rex I just found this great thread. Great job with it guys.
JC spoke of the Thunder Valley GT40 and here are photos of my build.
Also mentioned was the Le Mans Miniature GT40 kit and here is my build.
In the summer of 1967 I worked at Cooper Bessemer where we made huge engines for ships, locomotives, and off shore oil rigs. The vertical cylinders are the diesel cylinders and the horizontal cylinders are for compression, all on one crankshaft!
