Revell Shelby Cobra 427 S/C: Gumball Rally Movie Car
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in Model Cars
Thanks Ray! Thanks Eric! Thanks Rex! Thank you Trevor! That's actually my long term goal to do as many participant cars as possible with the kit selection available. Some of them are pretty hard to come by, but maybe in time. Thanks Gareth! Thank you Roger! Yes, there's quite a difference between indoor and outdoor. I usually try to get both lighting samples, especially with metallic paint jobs. Thanks Larry! -
I finished up my Shelby Cobra from the movie Gumball Rally. The color is a custom mix of Decoart Dazzling Metallics craft paint sprayed through my airbrush, and cleared with Pledge Floor Gloss. The interior is Jet Black Apple Barrel craft paint coated with Decoart Duraclear Satin Varnish. I added spark plug wires, the tell-tale Cibie driving lights, and the bumper mounted antenna for extra detail. I did miss a thing or two and couldn't get the right front stance to look right, but I am very happy with it overall. This was a nice kit and a fun little build of probably my favorite car and one of my favorite movies. I'm hoping to do 6 or 7 more of the cars from the movie if and when I can get the proper kits to replicate the cars. My next project though, will be Dom's Charger from the original Fast and Furious movie, a kit my son got me for Father's Day last year. You can also see the difference in the metallic color between the indoor and outdoor pics. As always, thanks for looking!!

Very sharp! Great color combo!

I checked out my Ollie's again this morning and they actually had 5 of the '55 Chevy Cameo's and a '55 Corvette as well as the usual newer Camaro, Corvette and Escalade kits. I snagged a Cameo and another 2006 Camaro Concept. I also went to Michael's and used the 30% off coupon and a $5 rewards voucher from a previous purchase to get the '69 Camaro for under 8 bucks (regular $17).

What Was the First Band You Saw in Concert?
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Snake45's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
KISS at the Saginaw Civic Center in 1983. If I recall the opening bands were Heaven and Vandenberg. I followed that with .38 Special the next year with Ratt and Eddie Money as the openers. My big regret though was declining two opportunities to see Neil Diamond with my parents. I'm pretty much a 70's, 80's and early 90's rocker, but in my opinion Neil Diamond is possibly the greatest singer/songwriter ever. -
Outstanding!! The color is gorgeous and the details and interior are fantastic!!

I'll be following this one with interest. My very first car was a green 1972 Cutlass Supreme, non-fancy with a 350 and rally wheels/white letter tires that I bought for $650 in 1984.

Looks great, nice job! I've had this kit for about 3 years now (my first ever Ollie's score), but haven't been motivated to build it yet.

Ollie's strike again
Dragonhawk1066 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I managed to grab these at the Ollie's in Flint, Michigan, that I bought for the LS motors. I was hoping to find the '69 Hurst/Olds, '55 Chevy Cameo, and/or the '62 Thunderbird, but all they had was a case of these Camaro's, a case of the Escalades, and a couple cases each of the 2009 and 2012 Showroom Replicas Corvettes. I'm glad I brought my wife because they were in a different spot in the front corner of the store next to the chocolate she was looking for, instead of down the main side aisle. I was there Wednesday morning and didn't see any, but may have missed them if they were in that same spot then too. I'll probably try to check in a few more times in the next week to see if more come in or get put out, but I usually don't have much luck finding the good kits there any more so I'll consider this trip a victory. -

Very well done and a great color! I'm currently building a replica of the Gumball Rally Cobra in close to the same color, also custom mixed.- 47 replies

The last of my spending spree, the ebay portion, finally rolled in yesterday. Mostly NASCAR, but a few other treasures as well, especially the boat kit. Funny, when I bought the Der Beetle Bus kit a couple of days before my birthday because my wife wanted me to build one for her, I didn't know that she had bought two of them herself for my birthday for a build together project for us. Now I have three of them, lol. I plan on building the Gordon cars, Irvan Kodak car and maybe the Elliott Coors as well, but the other two NASCAR kits are for spare parts. I'll also probably use the bodies for color testing and maybe masking/graphics practice.
