Yeah, finish her up. It is looking good so far.

Yes, Steven and others should get the credit for this idea. Thank You Steven!! I am merely simplifying it with the silly putty. It will work great for any small parts. It sands nicely. It seems a little harder and more brittle than styrene, but I was able to file the finger slot out on this door handle. This casting is a bit rough, but I was poking at it with a toothpick to remove an air bubble.

I posted these pics on my build thread, but I figure this is a better place for them, so they may be of help to others. The headlights on that particular model are chrome, and to me that is unacceptable! I have read elsewhere on this forum, bits and pieces about Bondic and Laser Bond products. I decided to try it for myself using Bondic. I just used silly putty for the mold. The larger ones were a pre-test and the smaller ones are the ones I need. The whole process took about 30 seconds and I think they came out pretty good. They are not perfectly clear, but close enough for my liking. One could certainly cast any small parts with this stuff. I hope this helps someone. Greg.

While surfing the web I came across an Aussie site that featured one of these. I think this is a really beautiful looking car. Anybody have any experience with them?

The headlights for this kit are horribly under-sized...and worse yet they are chrome! I have read some threads on here about Bondic and Laser-bond. I figured I would give casting some copies a try with the Bondic kit I bought yesterday. I just used silly putty for the mold. I think they turned out great for 30 seconds worth of work!

I leave a little space heater on constant so that I don't get frost on all my tools and stuff. When I want to work in there, I fire up the wood stove or plug in the 5k 220 volt space heater.

This is killing me! I've been locked out of my garage since yesterday! Something broke in the lock and the locksmith is coming hopefully tomorrow to break in for me. This means NO painting (other than brush). I am at the stage on a couple of kits where I would like to primer the bodies. I am tempted to open all my kits and start gluing the engine parts together. It's only -33 here with the wind-chill right now (it has warmed up considerably).

I don't have a lot of stock yet, but one thing I did do is start a little log of what I have. This way when I need something I don't head off to the hobby shop and wind up with duplicate packages.

Thanks. I used 0.156 styrene rod and 30 gage (.020) wire wrapping wire. I first colored the end with black sharpie. Then, after sanding the terminals on the kit distributor level, I used a silver sharpie on them. I then used the kit distributor to transfer the silver marks onto the end of the styrene rod. I use the marks to drill the .021 holes for the wires. A little work with a 3-corner file between the holes gives I a more realistic look. I then chuck it in a drill and use a square file to turn the shaft down to size, all while wearing my 3.5X cheaters. The wire looms are .010 styrene with .024 hole drilled in them. I have some pre-wired ones on order from a local HS, and some ordered online from Shapeways. If any of them are nice and in scale, I will try using them on the next one.

Well, I have an older Revell 1960 Corvette that I dug out last night. I figured I would build both of them since they are similar and I can compare them as I go. The AMT is actually better than the Revell. The R- '60 has a six piece body, which fits together fairly well by the looks of it. The heads, manifold, distributor and coil are all cast as 1 piece, yet the inner door panels on the R-'60 are very nicely detailed. The AMT door panels just have a very faint impression of the window cranks and other hardware.

The stock wheels/tires/hubcaps look not too bad, but tiny. The custom slotted mags aren't bad, but the tires look like they belong on a truck! So I used the spare wheels, tires and disc brakes from the Revell '65 Chevy stepside.

I picked this one up at the flea market last Sunday. After reading some opinions on here about these AMT Corvettes, I decided to build it quick and not worry about getting too precise or detailed, since there is only so much you can do with a kit like this. I think the body is not too bad, except for the headlights. The chassis and engine are pretty horrible!

Those are some nice specimens there Guys. I have gotten side-tracked onto other ones. I have about five builds going on at once. I will get back to it hopefully soon.

Just started this one. It is the Revell special edition 2'n1 kit. It will basically be a stock setup with a little detailing. I am not going for factory correct paint colors and details, I just want it to be pleasing to my eye. Comments welcome, thanks for looking.

This was sprayed with Mission Models Pearl Blue, through my Paasche H. I don't recall what pressure or tip # I used, but I thought it went on very smooth. I would use it again.

Cool. Nice job on that one! It sounds like your build went like my 1:1 build. Change one little thing and you wind up having to change 3 more things. I just bought that kit too and plan to either do the front end early style like mine or use the TJ front. -

Old thread, but good info! I may have to do this for a project I am working on. So what type of glue works best with the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastics? -
Looking good! Nice job on those headers.

Looks like a nice plan. I am working on a '70 now, so I will be watching too!

Just about perfect

Looks like you got a pretty good start on it. What ever became of that build? I for one would love to see it completed! -
Thanks for the links everyone. Keep 'em coming if you find more.

Happy AMT/IMC/MPC/Revell Day!

Cool! I missed it last year. Everyone should endeavor to stay indoors and work on a model today! Well, everyone that doesn't have to go to work anyway. -
I was recently attempting to glue the side mirrors on my 70-1/2 Camaro. The mirrors were too tiny to hang onto and position properly. I was using CA glue also which I did not want to get on my fingers or all over the paint. The tweezers I was using had a hard time keeping a grip on the mirrors and they spit out across the desk numerous times before I finally got them in place. They were painted already, so I couldn't use pliers or squeeze them too tightly. So that I don't have to deal with that frustration again, I modified these tweezers by gluing a small chunk of old bicycle inner tube to the tips with contact cement and trimming to shape.

How do they ship to Canada? have you ever gotten stung with duty or brokerage fees? -
