24 hour build, KW snapper
steveracer replied to tbill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
this is a nice idea. What are your rules for painting and such? I have this kit....thinking, but not likely I can join in. Just curious. -
Pierre, this is going to be cool. Oddly enough, tonight I was working on my Fujimi parts, just like you have and priming the seams. It is a bit unfair that I look at your work and want to reference it on mine. The wear and tear is very well done. Nobody but Penske has brand new equipment every week in the shop. It takes a lot of time and effort I am finding out to get the parts ready for weathering....great job! I am working on the hoist and want to make it look old and used like the ones I used to work with in real life myself!

Looks awesome and built up like the real one looks too! Great improvement on the original kit with your building skills by far.

And an f350 jacked up blowin coal with black painted windows. Lol. -
Twin Superchargers! Awesome, that's gonna be one fast machine. I like the way you hid the transmission under the blanket. Must be super secret that you can't share with us, right? Man, those are some nice rags for the rear traction!

Been a while as I was finishing my Beetle. Here is an update. I have decided to paint these two colors, plus the black for chassis. That is an old dark metallic green for the cab and hood, gold for the fenders. Here is my favorite matte or semi gloss black paint. It was $1.99 from Lowes last year, and I have been through the first can which was a fantastic matte black. I bought two more, and they are both semi gloss but still look and spray great. By the way, the first can sprayed ALL THE WAY down to the end of the can. None of the 2X stuff going on.... The other paints I got from Maynards for less than $2 each. A little more chassis work and priming the body parts after some clean up. The upper windshield molding, on the passenger side is a bit wacked, so I had to sand and fiddle it a bit, otherwise the body is great right out of the box. The air horns were just flat front pieces. I realize they could be positive ball shaped as a cover, or opened up negative. I chose negative, they will be black inside later.... And finally, I messed around with the skid plate, this truck has seen a bit of heavy duty use, so had to scrape it up....not fully satisfied with this, I think it needs some more help later.... That is all for now. I somehow got invested in a few other kits as a diversion, that I wanted to build. Doing the body work and paint first so that I can let them harden for a month or two on those models that get "fancy" paint jobs. My next step is to paint the cab and hood so that can sit for a bit. In the meantime I will be on the road, hopefully for a week and a few days.

Saw a base maverick yesterday. Steel wheels and all. Looked great in base trim. Once they are fancied up they look just like anything else out there. -
Some of our customers wanted to take the bug for a drive. So I put plates on it and opened up the cooling slots so they won’t have problems on the test drive.

Beautiful paint in tribute to your friend. Beautiful build shows your great skills at model building, especially the custom bodywork and execution of the details. And that engine looks so cool under the hood. I would never attempt such a custom model. But maybe I should try with your inspiration. Thank you for sharing. I love this forum.

Started as a Christmas gift this season. Tried some new techniques and different paints. Attempted to watch quality control. Tried to complete the model as quickly as reasonable -3.5 weeks is a record for me. this a great kit with excellent fits. And was on sale at HL so the wife liked that part ?

JR, that is some nice bodywork on that Impala. Did you do that work yourself? Give us some details! And do you have a miniature version to share? -

Nice set of rigs for your trucking company! Glad to see that you were able to get the loans to up the fleet, as I understand it is tough these days without proving yourself. And we can all see that you have proven yourself with these nice Super Bee builds. Tell me about your Polara/Monaco and 300. -
That’s it thanks. Didn’t see it.

It’s good to see our hobby in front of so many people, where it has been absent recently. -
Used to be a search sticky how to that appears to have left the forum. I tried for 20 minutes searching for masking windows help, and had to go outside this great forum to find my solution. There was an easier way to search the forum via outside google but can't remember the way. Too bad the search is unusable here. sigh.

Work fine on ice for me. did you put chains on all 4 wheels so at least you can stop?
-
Don’t need chains. Just good dedicated winter tires. Snow is fun then.

Wow, this subject matter is totally unexpected as the car really didn't do much in the WRC back in the day. I believe it was most successful in Belgium - for some weird reason I recall....and maybe GB too in the National championships. Maybe, MAYBE I can be hopeful for a Mazda 323GTX BFMR rally car to be kitted by Hasegawa. I really need one badly!

Oh my. That last one Ace was awesome. Was waiting for the last installment, the Tesla.... Oh wait, I hear it now.
