  1. Funky little cars! Seriously, well done.
  2. Good choice all around on wheels. That Impala looks snazzy wearing those!
  3. I had recently purchased some Iron Armor primer at Harbor Freight just because the price was so appealing for a sandable filler primer. I just got around to doing a quick test, because I'm as curious as anyone if it's worth trying! A few points: First; it does have a VERY fine graininess, but nothing unusual for a primer with higher solids content for filling. You have to feel it, you can't see it, even in a WET coat. Second; it sprays with a good pattern, and covers very well. Third; I was unable to make it craze a model car body or even one of those cheap plastic Wal-Mart spoons, and in my experience, plastic spoons craze easily. (I sprayed 2 heavy wet coats on each, no holding back for testing purposes) Fourth; I like the smell! Seriously, it reminds me of the smell of Kylon Sandable from 10 years ago, a primer I really liked for modeling. BONUS points; the model pictured is an old glue bomb Monogram 66 Chevelle street machine I will be restoring, molded in RED, and it ain't bleeding through! Sprayed day before yesterday. The primer is a very light gray color, the handle of the (white) spoon was not sprayed at all.
  4. Good job! That blue looks cool on SO many cars. Had an uncle who painted his 67 Impala that color. Tasty!
  5. Yes! Great modern custom with a nod to the past. Let's see some more pictures! I think I see some teeth in that grille, so front view please!
  6. I was really digging the Merc, and then I scrolled down to the Satellite...best job Ive seen on one of those, the color, wheels, and stance just speak to the kid in me! All these are VERY nice builds, but it's Satellite for the win!
  7. That's a pretty maroon, what paint did you use?
  8. Wow! That is some serious old-school flake, and I dig it! Mind sharing what paint you used?
  9. The 5-spokes are nice looking on that car, but a little smaller wouldn't hurt it!
  10. I dig the bubble top, but it looks a bit oversized to me( just my HO ) I think it would benefit from removing about 1/8 inch all the way around the bottom; would not only bring it down, but would shorten it a few millimeters. However you go, I'll be watching with much interest! This is just a cool concept!
  11. Love the color on that '68, have you decided on a color for the '69?
  12. Very cool little hot rod! Well done!
  13. I like your color scheme just fine, and I think you'll appreciate it more when you see it with the chrome done (foiled or painted). Looking good!
  14. Man, that was a great color choice; your 'vette is sharp!
  15. Skip, that engine conversion would have made a nice WIP here!
  16. That turned out really nice. Love the white interior, it complements the rich green.
  17. Very nice work here.
  18. Very cool, and agree that this is more of a standout color scheme. Reminded me of several cars associated with Larry Watson and that period and place.
  19. Don't fear the foil! Really, it does get easier with practice. Safe to say most people are less than enthused about their first try. Hang in there! Pretty nice Camaro for a "noob", your client should be pleased. Color-keyed mags are an interesting touch; they give the car, at a glance, the appearance of the 70-73 Camaro with it's colored steel factory "mag". Is this model replicating a car someone has actually done, or is it a plan for a real build?
  20. Oh yes, I notice we're seeing more and more of this flavor here lately, and I dig it! Well done.
  21. Should look great as a convertible with up-top! Big fan of the '69s myself, and have a conversion (slowly) in the works, making a Sport Coupe. Is your promo by AMT or MPC? One of them molded the "CHEVROLET" letters on the front of the hood (like yours) and one didn't (mine). Are you planning on polishing the plastic to keep the promo vibe, or do we have a tasty paint job to look forward to?
  22. Fun stuff! I like your taste in '57s; isn't that bluish silver PERFECT on that mild custom?! Tube grilles work well in these front ends, and I've always thought the Buick grille (included in the other boxings) is a handsome addition and just the sort of thing any DIY customizer would have done way back. As for lowering, don't make the same mistake the guy with the black car pictured above did; see how his rear bumper is twisted upward?! Riding too low, turn from level ground onto an uphill slope, and... These mild customs remind me of one of my favorite magazine builds from back in the 80s, the Hot Rod Magazine Flashback 57. Painted orange with a black belly and an orange frame, dressed up with plenty of chrome and polished aluminum, and they did the same exact modification to the hood "bullets" as you guys did here. It was too cool, and they gave it away! Looking forward to seeing what you make of this. It's off to a good start!
  23. Not sure what displacement it represents, but the six in the AMT '37 Chevy has a dual carb manifold and other goodies you might adapt and save some scratch-building. See nice pics of kit pieces and instruction sheet in this thread, scroll down about 2/3 of the page:
  24. Love the natural metal on the Empire bird. Well done!
