1955 Ford Panel Truck
espo replied to Captain Spaulding's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I liked watching your build on this. Looking at it now it is hard to realize just how bad it was when you started. -
Beautiful looking finishes.

Beautiful attention to detail on your build. You already answered my questions about the carbs that you used. You had mentioned an issue with the hood fitting. Just an idea on any future builds of this model, it was common to put a stack of washers between the hood hinges and the hood so that it would sit up enough to catch some of the air build up in front of the windshield at the top end.

Welcome aboard, there're more than a few of us gray beards around here. Both of these are great looking builds and I like the custom front end on the Chevy. The '57 Ford is really nice and near and dear to my heart as a past owner of a couple of '57's and one in this body style only in white with the 312 and the 3 speed with overdrive. Look forward to some more of your builds.

Great looking build and nice work on the foiling.

I remember a neighbor back in that time with a white two door base sedan with the 413 and a Torque flight. He had to have it pointed dead straight when he dropped the hammer otherwise he was having to steer sideways to stay in a straight line even with the Casler cheater slicks of the time. The F.I. Corvette was no slouch especially on a road course, but in a straight line it was going to be the "Little old lady from Pasadena" all the way.

Great looking truck. I would never try building those mirrors myself but they look good here. Sometimes it just seems like a kit is fighting you all the way, but you overcame this one. -
Amazing looking body work. Great paint color and finish.
-
Beautiful looking color and the transition of the roof onto the rear trunk area looks like that's the way GM should have done this body style.

What did you see on the road today?

I like the wagon. Back when this was new you wouldn't want to be seen riding in one, now they're cool. -
You might want to see if you can find any Scottsdale pickups running around in your area to take measurements for the side moldings. They may be hard to find due to age but this would give you the correct measurements. As for materials for the moldings don't rule out Plastruct produces. I have used both and I think the quality is much the same and any well stocked hobby shop should be able to supply either or both products. As always there is the internet shopping.

It's only plastic so use the Ford engine of choice and due a 180 with the oil pan to give you clearance on the cross member and call it good. I like the body work here.

Two tone '72 Chevrolet pickup

I like the stock finish. Good color combination. Hub Caps in the future ? -
Beautiful looking Gasser. I can see what you mean about the metal flake look in the outdoor pictures but the paint is outstanding and part of why the subject always looked so good. When I built mine I used all Tamiya paint products and it looks more like your indoor pictures. The chassis looks almost like a real one and I like how the interior looks.

Looks great. I always wondered about such a body matchup.
-
Beautiful looking finishes. Enjoyed watching your build on this and I like how you did the front body panels and grill.
-
Great looking paint and trim. These were an interesting car when new always wondered why they didn't sell more of them.
-
Great looking Mustang. I like the different light color you used on the body. The trim all looks very cleanly done.

Looks great. -
I would follow the suggestions from both Brian and Joe with a little change to the chrome parts surrounding the black molding. I would suggest using quarter round for the outer moldings. My reason for this is the trim was the same thickness all the way across on the 1:1. GM used an aluminum molding for the trim with an indentation in the center for the black plastic type trim. The quarter round trim would give you a flat surface to the center and the mounting side of the part you're adding. As for the size a lot of that can be done by eye. You have some great looking photos to work with. You may have to mock up a couple of different sizes but I think you'll know when you have the correct sizes when you see them. There is also a molding that runs around the back side of the cab below the rear window. Looking at your picture of the pickup with the camper shell you can see a very small portion where the meets the door. The drip moldings over the doors were a brushed aluminum type finish. The grill moldings were chrome but the grill its self was painted Argent, GM's term for flat silver.

You guessed it. No I have no idea what it tasted like. The day was over 100 degrees and I had just enough adult beverage but could still couldn't bring myself to try it and I love ice cream. Just to gross for even me.

Many years ago I lived in an are near Gilroy Ca. Gilroy bills its self as the garlic capitol of the world, and if you should be passing thru the area on Hwy 101 during harvest you would agree. So one year attending their Garlic Carnival they were introducing a new flavored Ice Cream, guess the flavor ?

Now that's funny.
