Do you recall the brand and or the type of finish coat of paint. The reason for my question is based on some unfortunate past experiences. I have had similar paint problems when using either automotive touch up sprays or a paint that is not designed for use on plastic objects.

Need help finding a product
espo replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Model Master paints offers several different types of Metalizer spray paints. #1451 Aluminum Plate - # 1452 Stainless Steel - #1454 Titanium - #1459 Metalizer Sealer. After spraying any of the colors, wait for them to dry completely and then you can polish them with a soft cloth, I use a Q-Tip. Then spray the sealer since handling will leave finger prints and the finish can smear also. Tamiya offers a Bare-Metal Silver in their aircraft line it's #AS-12. -
That kind of reminds me of a Simca.

This was and I think still is a great kit of this car. I had a new '86 Monte Carlo SS and this kit is about as close as you can get to the 1:1. A note to any builder that may not be familiar with the 1:1. The rear side windows are mounted on the outside of the body and all of the other windows are mounted from the inside of the body. The 1:1 car came to market just about the time GM started to flush mount the exterior windows on their cars. Less wind noise and maybe even less wind drag.

Very smooth looking conversion. This looks like something Pontiac should have done. I like the paint combination and the wide whites give it a showroom appearance.

Looks good and I like the theme of your build. As for the paint, did you use a "hot" lacquer paint ?

Great looking Hudson. I built one in Black a few years ago and I agree it seemed like I went thru half a sheet of Chrome Foil. I'd like to see more of the interior but that may be to late now. Looks like you got all the surfaces under the hood painted the correct colors also.

The body color is beautiful and that interior looks great.

Very nice Camaro. The Revell mirrors are hard to get to stay together. I have used a very fine .021 drill and part of a staple as a pin to hold the two parts together. The trick is not to go thru the mirror face from the back side.

Great looking build. I agree with everyone else on the paint work. I think I can see something of a special headliner in a couple of pictures.

Neat kit. I remember watching the '64 Thunderbolts at the Winter Nationals in Pomona. They were awesome to watch. Nice to pay tribute to a great driver with this build.

I kind of thought you already had this figured out but was not sure. Your chassis looks great, very nice work here.

1972 GMC Bucket Truck
espo replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great looking build. Lots of good equipment rolling around in the bed and the bucket and arm look good. I always like how your work trucks have the look of a truck that only gets washed if it rains. -

Great looking well used work truck. I like the bow in the overhead rack. Just the right amount of ageing and the same for the dirty tire treads. -
Nasty Looking, and I mean that in the best way possible. Great looking paint and the stance is just right.

I like the color change and making it into a hardtop changes the look also. Nicely done interior. The tires and wheels showing the disc brakes look good.

Looks great. I like the Metal Flake paint finish. Nice job on the instrumented Dash.

I agree on the shape of these early Chevrolets. A couple of thoughts on the chassis. I foresee that the drive shaft tunnel may have to be raised to clear the drive shaft with the rear suspension set so low. Not sure if this is the final rid height for the rear suspension but the lower control arms are resting on the frame and leave no suspension travel. Looking at the finished model up on all four tires this wouldn't show but if you are displaying the chassis at all it would be visible. I like the old water cooler on the side window, these worked better than you might think especially with some ice in the water.

I think whether you like it or not this is a work of Art and Engineering. While it doesn't appeal that much to myself I still appreciate the efforts that were put into building this. This guy is a very good at bringing many parts from many different sources together to build the chassis and engine. The body, well that is Art for sure. Just like not everyone likes the same Painting that doesn't mean it's not good Art.

I personally would not use Super Clean in this application based on my personal experience. I say my experience since there may be others who have used it with no problems. I used Super Clean in an effort to strip a failed paint job. Within 24 hours the resin body I was striping turned to mush and there was no way to save it. This could have been to long of an exposure or something to do with the resin used. What I have used with no problems are two different products. Most often I'll use Simple Green or Whitley's White Wall tire cleaner. In both cases I then give the part a bath in Dawn Dish Soap and an old tooth brush. I suggest that the water used be no warmer than say 70 or 80 degrees, I feel this will prevent any changes to the bodies shape.

'62 Ford F-100
espo replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
So many body modifications that all flow together so well you have to study the shape to see them all. Outstanding scratch built frame. The paint finish is really smooth looking. This model looks like one of the high end builds out of some 1:1 shop. -

Beautiful looking pick up. The stance is just right and the wheels and tires look perfect for this. -
Very clean looking truck. I like how you detailed the engine and the exhaust looks cool also. I also like the way you changed the grill, what type of material did you use ?

Great looking day 2 build. Very nicely detailed trim. Not many remember the black rubber around the vent windows.
