Fine thing you have done for your father. Wish him well soon.

This is amazing art work. I followed as you were doing all the taping and different layers of paint. I'm impressed at the way you brought the body design on to the top of the dash board.

Ghosn arrested for securities fraud
espo replied to fumi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got my new issue of Road & Track in the mail yesterday. The reason I mention it is that there is an editorial inside the back cover from Bob Lutz every month. For those who might not recognize the name, he has been involved in the upper management of several different automotive manufactures and often answers questions from readers about different aspects of the automotive business. This month he has a very insightful explanation of a CEO's and their almost universal expectation of their entitlements. I think this is a good description of Mr. Ghosn. -
Another use for the non slotted wheels would be for a VW type 1. I built a copy of a long ago dune buggy I had. The 1:1 used the stock VW wheels in front and widened VW wheels in the rear. This was based on a '57 chassis so it had the wide 5 wheels. The '36 Ford kit wheels maybe a little out of scale but not so you would notice. So if someone was building a VW and wanted an exposed wheel with no hub cap these look the part.

I like what you're doing with the headlights. What I was trying to understand was from the picture it looks as if there is a gap between the chrome part and the plastic just above it and the hood. My thought was that this might be where the kit's headlight lens would go.
-
What do you have in mind for the void area above the Head Lamps ? Are you using the kits head Lamp Lens and maybe darken that area so it wouldn't be seen anyway ?
-
Great looking interior. The sort of Gold color was most often seen on the Green cars painted this color.
-
I like the Pearl Green color as well as the Blue Convertible. I agree with you about the Frame hanging to low on this and many more kits. The thing to remember is that the 1:1 cars the bottom 1" or so of the Frame does show. The factory usually shot a little, very little, Flat Black on this area. If you were to look at a Chevelle that had an inexpensive respray you would really notice this since most production shops didn't bother to mask off the Frame or respray it Black. So this may be closer to true than we think.

I like your progress on this build and the engine looks very real. A thought on your Dome lite Roof issue. First is the headliner side of the roof have any sink marks. These should be filled if you do. This type of thing happens often on say a hood that has been partly precut for a hood scoop. If you have already addressed this problem you might want to try a gloss color on the center of the roof to see if it is going to show before you commit to your final paint job.

When you gamble and lose you lose. You don't go biting the hand that feeds you because you made the wrong bet. -
Depending on the shade of Red you're after, I have used Tamiya TS-86 Pure Red with a dust coat of flat after the Red has dried. This looks much like a brighter red vinyl or leather interior you would find in many cars. I have also used their TS-33 Dull Red that would give you a darker Red going toward a Maroon.

A Thought about the Magazine, etc.
espo replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with you 100%. The only thing I find somewhat strange is that a Slot Car Magazine is published on a somewhat regular basis. -
Ya that might work. It happened again today with a KHP car on the freeway. I was going into a nearby city to have the windows on the new car tinted. The KHP was assisting someone on the side off the freeway and he was driving a white Charger. The guy waves to me as I drive by. I think the only people that think this might be a patrol car is with some form of law enforcement, everyone else just drives around me. This doesn't really bother me as I'm not trying to be a fake patrol car. A large part of it might be the black spoiler on the trunk lid. This was part of an optional package on the car and I'm having the dealer paint it to match next week. Four door sedans with spoilers have always seemed odd to me anyway. I like the wells on your gray Charger, is that an actual PD car or just a Demo ??

Well it happened again today. I stopped at an appointment this morning and left the phone in the car. When I came back out I checked for any messages and up pops a note that it will take me 33 min. to get home from there. I wasn't going home at that time, but it still seems strange that the Blankety Blankety phone is telling me were to go.

After 97k miles behind the wheel of a 5.7 Hemi with All Wheel Drive, don't let anyone tell you that the 3.6 with duel overhead cams and an 8 speed auto and all wheel drive is the same. The new car has no problem keeping up with traffic but if you get in a hurry that little engine gets real frantic trying to supply you with the power you are expecting. I guess I'll just have to learn to take my time from now on. The very first day driving I went to pickup my wife for lunch. Going slowly down a side street, a black & white PD Charger going the other way and the driver gives me the two fingers wave off of his hand on the top of the steering wheel. Most everyone else thinks it's just a white Charger.

Sounds like you must of cut through or damaged some wiring when you pushed the copper line through the firewall. Wiring is something I stay as far away from as possible. On another note, we have traded our look alike patrol car. The '10 Charger RET + AWD in dark gray is getting turned in as a trade-in tomorrow. The Dodge dealer where we bought it was having a close out on all remaining '18 models. We had been putting a pencil to what we wanted to do to the Charger in the future since it was almost to 100K miles. I was in the dealership last week getting an oil change and wondered into the showroom floor while I was waiting. There sat an '18 Charger GT with AWD in white, just so happens to match most of the Kansas Hiway Patrol units, and as they say they were offering at a price you couldn't refuse. They wanted to give it a better cleaning before delivery and I wanted to get our personal belongings out of the car. So early Monday I'll take the '10 Charger and title and pickup the '18 Charger. I'll post some pictures next week also. The new car has a spoiler on the trunk as part of the GT package and it's flat black. Not to my liking so I'm going to have it painted to match or even remove it altogether.

Both beautiful looking builds. I remember following both of them as you did your magic. The attention to detail and the wat they look is perfect.

While A is along the Rat Rod theme it is to well done to call it a Rat Rod, in my opinion. B is much more to what I would love to have. That said I also am in the camp that the tires and wheels are out of proportion to what I myself think looks best. I'm sure there are many who prefer the "rim protector tires" on the large diameter wheels, but again that is just my opinion. As for the Amish 1 horse power don't be fooled. We have visited areas where there is a lot of Amish families and farming communities. Buggies just like this is their standard means of transportation and there is signage along the road warning about their slow moving carriages on the narrow two lane highways. I remember well over taking a carriage that was going close to 35 or 40 miles per hour on the shoulder of the road. These guys were clearly in a hurry to get to the picnic we pasted later down the road. That horse had his legs going unlike what you would think a farm animal could do. I have a great respect for these people and their chosen life style.

This would depend on what type of race cars you are thinking about. Drag racing, NASCAR, SCCA Trans Am, and many others. Also is there a brand that is more appealing than any other to you ? For 1967 there are more options than you may think. I'll start with GM, Chevrolet would probably offer the widest selection there. The Impala, Chevelle SS 396, both AMT and Revell., and the Camaro or Corvette. If Fords are more interesting to you the new tool Revell Ford tudoor or wagon, the Thunderbird, and even the old tool AMT '57 Fairlane 500 has a lot to offer. Mopar is a little slim on '57 offerings but the old tool AMT '58 Plymouth might be something you could use to back date to a '57 model. I don't know what all is out there in the Import side but I'm sure there is a few. Does this help in anyway ?

A DeLorean... With a V8.
espo replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the mid-engine idea being put forward does not relate to the DeLorean in the video. First of all the video shows the engine mounted behind the transmission in the area that would have contained the original engine. In my mind that would make it a rear engine set up as a mid - engine would place the engine on the other side of the transmission. I remember an episode of Gas Monkey Garage where they used a water cooled rear engine Porsche where they engine had been destroyed and replaced it with an LS engine. As usual they drive it like they stole it and the transmission didn't break, so I think that might be a viable transmission to use in this application. -
I worked in various auto dealerships for over 30 years and two different states. I know in every state I worked in there was, and should be, many safety items along with emission equipment and general operation that was a dealer's responsibility whether the vehicle is sold "as is" or with any other type of guarantee. The $5 million in punitive damages does seem high, but remember we weren't in the court room so you don't know everything that went on. At the very least the buyer should get his money back and something for his trouble, but $ 5m does seem a lot out there. I'm sure the state fined the dealer big time and if this is a pattern the dealer could lose his license in that state.

A DeLorean... With a V8.
espo replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This could be fun. The De Lorean is scorned by most and I would think you could find onw that needed engine work anyway pretty cheap. Used LS engines are very plentiful and their is an endless supply of standard and after market parts so those parts process should be reasonable. As mentioned the transmission is the wear link and I'm sure there has to be something out there with a transmission that can hold up and then you would have a really fun car without spending a ton of money. -
