I would be interested in finding more information about this and any other displays that they may offer.

Here's one slightly smaller I found...

kivcmds 1:18 Scale 3-Tiers Model Car Display Case with Parking Lot Scene for Sports Car and Lego Models Collector, Display Stand for Alloy Car Toy with Light (3-Tiers Convenience Store Parking Lot) https://a.co/d/bAdgFVI

It goes together quickly and easy and looks pretty cool in my opinion.

Went to town with my bride and picked up some items to use when getting my new paint booth ready for use; won’t use all the items but they are here if needed.  Also a couple of items so I can make a magnetic work board for use when setting up a chassis and tires and whatever else it’s good for. Need to modify a basement window for paint booth use.

Some time back I started thinking about doing a series of the McLaren sports-racing cars that are available in styrene or as slot car bodies. Bruce McLaren was another one of my "heroes" when I was a young man, and I've worked on a few of the cars over the years. Though Bruce had already been tragically killed, I was fortunate to meet both Denny Hulme and Peter Revson during the CanAm glory days.

Couple things I got for Christmas from somebody who, remarkably, actually knows something about my interests, listens, and put some effort into getting me something I'd really like..

A reference book I've wanted for a while but never tried to track down:

MCLAREN SPORTS RACING CARS By Dave Friedman - Hardcover - Picture 1 of 1

A complete unmolested 1/25 AMT McLaren Elva (the M1-A):

Picture 1 of 20

Picture 10 of 20

And a couple of 1/24 Tamiya slot-body versions of the same basic car:

The ribbon for the seat belts is also included. I must try and make those for once!

Yup... seat belt parts. The others looks like mirror parts, brake rotor plates, racing seat plates of sorts, grill pieces, steel plates for chassis is my guess. Nice.

It's been on Sky TV as well. I remember these drivers when I started marshalling at Silverstone in my early 20's!

My wife got me this awsome "parking garage" display case. I just put it together and I think it looks awsome! Now need to dust off a few builds to go in it.

Purchase 12 of 15 began with an article in Hot Rod Magazine March 1978 (and a great walk down memory lane) of the movie car known as the "California Kid"

For the short term, I thought it would be fun to get the Revell Goodguys '32 Ford 3-window, especially since it comes with flame decals.

Having said that, my long term goal will be to build a proper tribute to the "California Kid" from parts in various kits as shown here:

Is it cheating that I also broke down and got a really clean version of the Danbury Mint version of the California Kid from an auction? It was just too pretty to pass up :) maxresdefault.jpg.71215af87836738d94c1e47eca5a42a1.jpg

Number 6 of 15: Hot Rod Magazine April 1963 had an article on a little known Ford roadster built by someone named Tom McMullen (I am being facetious now, but really didn't know the name or how famous this car is at the time).

1963-04.jpg.17951ed19478f8f0b311810896645770.jpg

Of course the car had a look all its own, so I decided to get a model of it. The closest I came was a Revell '32 Roadster. I like the raked windshield on this model, and will keep it for another build since McMullen's ride has a more upright one.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I also picked up a Danbury Mint fixer-upper of the McMullen Roadster by convincing myself that it; 1) deserved saving, and/or 2) it could be useful for parts. :)

What did I get model related? I'm so glad you asked! In the beginning of November, I attended SEMA and learned from the Motor Trend booth that they would now be making all issues of Hot Rod Magazine from 1948 to 2021 available online for free. Having recently come back to building scale model cars, and never really being a "hot rod" aficionado, I started with issue number 1 in 1948 and went right down the rabbit-hole! I am now up to July 1983, and have been posting the cool stuff I've been finding and learning at

Others have been joining in, so it's turning into a Hot Rod Magazine party! Which brings me to what I've been buying; since November 9th, I have bought 15 models directly as a result of various articles in this magazine. And now I just have to share... :)

Since my initial 15 purchases, I have continued to go through Hot Rod Magazine online from August 1983 through November 1997. And of course, this has meant I found more cars to fall in love with, and more models to purchase :)

Number 16 on the list is the very interesting Hot Rod Magazine article from November 1988 of Matt and Debbie Hay's Thunderbird Pro-Street.

1988-11.jpg.62fedfa5b1bf65d76baa43dbd5183fc6.jpg

And the Revell 1:25 scale model I found online. The model looks excellent, and particularly does a nice job of representing that awesome engine bay.

Purchase number 17 took a circuitous route to come together. Hot Rod Magazine September 1986 had an article about the Christman Bonneville racer restoration. The color photos were gorgeous, and I immediately fell in love with the car!

This racer had been featured in HRM February 1954, but it had not caught my attention when I first saw it.

Finding a scale model became a bit of a hunt, as I found nothing under "Christman Bonneville racer". A more generic search eventually yielded a body which is spot-on, except for the positioning of the roof mounted scoops.

For anyone interested in this resin body, it can be found on  ebay under 32 Ford Coupe T&T Productions.

p.s. Because the HRM article mentioned Barris, I feel compelled to include that at some point the vehicle was sold to him, and he recommissioned it for use on a TV show called "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". Later purchasers returned the car to its Bonneville glory, which thrills me to no end!

Purchase number 18 was equally circuitous, as it all began with an HRM October 1989 article about a totally unrelated car - a '49 Ford Business Coupe racer.

1989-10.jpg.6788f3a3beb923da83ee1d18050e2f55.jpg

I posted the article, and @Plowboy said he remembered this as Cole Cutler's '49 Ford, and believed it had the 429 Boss engine that was in his '34 Ford prior to it being crashed. Of course now I had to look up Cole Cutler's '34 Ford, and what a car it turned out to be! Here is the beast racing:

1344087708_Screenshot2022-12-17185726.jpg.b4ddca2896df44f0a4e4aadeb27feee9.jpg.2f22fe0140dcacb9386f514df5e6f1e9.jpg

And here it is after it was crashed, rebuilt, and sold:

Screenshot_20221217_074018.png.d5cda52ec964b62bbf8cb1ef65cb351a.png.05b7bccd0127f6ce1bf84bfe312d4fd1.png

The design just struck me as so perfect, but try as I might, I could not find a model of this car. Thus, I have picked up a Revell Chopped '34 Ford Coupe as a starting point. I have no idea whether I'll be able to turn it into a 5-window, but it never hurts to have a '34 lying around :) Anyone know of a better starting point? - perhaps the AMT '34 5-window, or something else?

s-l1600.jpg.a43837c059fab17059e025faf5820c5a.jpg

Online searches being what they are, I also ran across a GMP 1:18 scale diecast "Porkchop's '34 Ford Altered Coupe" that spoke to me, thus it too is now in my possession :)

Sometimes it's prudent to do due diligence prior to purchasing.

That Revell kit is a joke. It's so underscale, it's only appropriate to build a similarly styled Fiat.

The AMT '34 3-window is a vastly superior starting point, and I have a thread on here somewhere that goes into detail about chopping it easily, and another one that shows the easy way to do front independent suspension on a '34.

I ordered one of those 1:25 parking garage display cases after seeing @TimKustom’s review of one in the magazine a couple of months back…was a fun evening project!

Of course, I won’t be able to leave well enough alone so it’ll be getting some tweaks to improve the realism - but even out of the box it looks great and LED lighting is a nice touch!

Last purchase of 2022 that I will have in my hands. There are others but they'll start coming through in 2023....

On the way to the coast for a walk and some fresh air managed to swing by the big Hannant's wholesale/mail order warehouse. It's rather odd being in this building with thousands and thousands of kits, even just the Hasegawa section I was in had plenty that I would have loved to get. I restrained myself to just this Starlet, which was on special offer, and the Tamiya TS aerosols which were being cleared out. A lotof them were just £1.99 each and even with a few more expensive ones they averaged out at well under £3 a can which is less than half most retailers sell them for. The chap said they're going to stop doing them, whether he meant Hannants selling them or Tamiya producing them I don't know, but it was well worth getting these. Never used the Pearl Clear before, could be an interesting way of adding some interest to the solid colours in this selection.

The Halfords automotive primer and clearcoat work nicely in my experience, they seem to be happily compatible with the TS colours (and of course their own spray cans which I get whenever I see any older colours on clearance).

Tamiya is raising the prices across all of their paint lines in 2023, and I suspect with the increased cost of shipping the TS cans (which have to be shipped by ship) it just isn't viable to import them anymore vs. what quantity of them they sell.

I got a rotating column attachment for the mill. It should make "angled" operations easier than installing the angle milling table.

I also picked up one of the reissued Pepper Shaker kits. The vintage box, pictured here is from one of the very first kits I got, once I knew I was a car modeler, back in 1972! I also want to get one of AMT's '53 Ford pickups, but, I'm not married to the same box as my first one (Street Rods). I  want to build both of them fairly basically--just a little dressed up.
