Rocking Rodney Rat Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Brother of one of my customers, they're friends of mine. Driving too fast in the rain, hydroplanes into the jersey barrier, bounces off, takes another car with him, spins around facing traffic. Luckily no one was hurt..... -RRR

I really don't like going on any highways such as U.S. 30 I-75 that much because of the other drivers who think that since the posted speed is set at 70 mph that they can go 75-80 mph instead. They also like to speed on U.S.127! My car isn't off and I usually set the cruise for 55-56 Mph, and Ill get passed like I'm sitting still! These fools will do near 70 on a highway marked 55 mph!
Rob Hall Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 At the dealer for service on my Jeep this morning, and they had 3 Ram TRXes out front. One had a $99995 sticker, with a $13k ‘market adjustment’. Nice purple Challenger with Scat Pack package in the showroom. And in the service parking was a clean brown 80s LeBaron..haven’t seen one of those in ages. Appeared rust-free which in Cleveland is rare.
Earl Marischal Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 That LeBaron looks tiny next to those trucks! steve

Going 10-20 miles over the posted speed limit seems to be the norm. I don't see it as really that bad under dry road condition and paying attention to the road (not fumbling with the smart phone, eating a sandwich, or applying makeup). And of course keeping ample distance behind the idiot ahead of you who is doing one of those things. In this specific example, rain and wet surface were likely the major contributing factors to the accident. When you are driving your snail-pace 55MPH, I hope that you are at least not in the passing (fast) lane. That type of behavior would be really dangerous to you and to other drivers.

I do the speed limit on U.S. 127 which is marked 55 mph (two lane highway) and even though the four lane is marked 70 mph I set the cruise at 68 mph , and only go in the passing lane when needed! Ohio State police have been known to nail a driver going 1 mph over the speed limit . Just because some are in a hurry to die don't mean I have to be! BTW My '95 Buick I had was rear ended while stopped in traffic waiting for the red light to turn green. My car was pushed into a service pickup with a lift gate, and the took out my headlight's and grill. The driver who hit me wasn't paying attention to traffic. But she was paying attention to her cell phone! Just to replace the hood/headlights and gill cost my insurance company nearly 2 grand. State Farm lost out that day as all three vehicals had State Farm Insurance! Edited June 19, 2021 by ranma

peteski Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 My GF was driving through Merrimack, NH when she spotted this gem of a wagon. She found it interesting enough to stop and take those photos. You don't see many wagons like this at car shows. 1

There seems to be a huge amount of completely random older cars roaming the backroads as soon as the snow melts.
Rodent Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Not on "the road" per se, but I stopped for gas this afternoon on the way to the LHS and there was a Tesla at the pumps. Not the first time I have seen this either. Maybe filling up the gas can for the lawnmower?

You would think if they can afford a rather pricey full-time electric car, they would also own "green" electric-powered lawn appliances. Those, just like cars, are getting closer and closer in performance to the gas powered versions.

I'm a closet fan of these cars and I like the Lancer the best of the two. They didn't have the "toilet seat" on the trunk like the Valiant had.
Tom Geiger Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 On the Pennsylvania Turnpike yesterday… Never saw this before.. a whole transporter of new Lincoln hearses, plus one red Caddy. I thought hearses were custom built in small quantities, maybe transported one or two at a time. We couldn’t get a decent photo in close traffic. Still needed to share the event.
Rob Hall Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 That first hearse appears to be based on a Cadillac XTS (the one over the truck cab) and the two Lincoln ones are based on the Corsair looks like. With the XTS and CT6 out of production, wonder what Cadillac future hearses will be based off...maybe the XT6 or Escalade...
espo Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 There may be a dealership somewhere that caters to that market. I remember years ago in the 'burbs of Chicago a dealer that had a bunch of late '40's and early '50's Cadillac Hearses and Flower Cars as well. This was in the late '50's. These were trade ins on the new one they had sold.
The Junkman Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 (edited) In a desperate attempt to cool off (103-112 degrees the past couple of days at home) we took off to the Pacific Coast in Fort Bragg, CA yesterday (61-66 degrees). Came across an unexpected Father's Day weekend car show. Along with the usual assortments of Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros there were a few more that I found interesting. You never know what you'll come across in the hinterlands. 1969 440 Coronet convertible (sign said there were just over 400 made that year) Something right out of a cartoon (or rather Kar-Toons) 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione 2 red cars A late 80's Citroen CXA There were a few more but my cell phone lied to me when it said it had captured some photos. There was a black/dark red 2CV next to the CXA and an early '80s Nissan Skyline Edited June 20, 2021 by The Junkman

The Junkman Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 (edited) A bit off topic: has anyone else had trouble with Imgur hotlinking to this forum? It used to without question and suddenly it identifies this site as a blog or website rather than a forum and so won't allow a link to be embedded. I linked the photos above via Flikr with no problem. Edited June 20, 2021 by The Junkman

I quit my part time delivery job for this reason. I was working for Autozone delivering parts and I was spending far too much time on interstate highways going to faraway parts of town when i was supposed to be delivering to businesses in the local area. I didn't reach retirement age to die for a retail job.
