  1. Hey, no worries John, don't take it personally. Scalemates has become something of a running joke around here lately. ? As for a more accurate reference. Just ask here. There's loads of people on this site that have forgotten more about car kits and cars in general than just about any other site you could name.
  2. Nice save Rick. Back in the early '80s, "Twilight Zone Magazine" ran an interview with Meredith. In it he said that he didn't smoke at the time and the unique "Penguin cackle" was him trying to stay in character while trying to cover the coughing on the cigarette smoke. ?
  3. IIRC, it snowed a lot in California in the '80s. ?
  4. Getting your car kit info from them is like getting your news from The National Enquirer. Some may be true but there's as much BS as fact and a wealth of exclusion and plain everyday mistakes.
  5. Those newer Impala kits are 1/25 anyway, not 1/24. ,, and any engine in a 442 is an actual Olds, not Chevy. I really can't think of any well detailed SBC engines in 1/24 that haven't been mentioned already. I'd just pick one and go with it. It's mostly hidden in a Vette anyway. But, there's no reason you can't use the Olds accessory belts on a Chevy engine with a little tweaking.
  6. The tail lights are actually '57 Rambler front park lights flipped over.
  7. Got the paint off and found a previous owner had tried to strip paint off the hood by scraping it off. A couple heavy coats of BIN and some wet sanding got it smooth but not even as shown by the silver guide coat. Block sanded out the bad areas and ready for another coat of BIN and another silver guide coat but I think it's OK now. rest of the body was pretty good and need no extra work. The wheels are from the AMT '66 Mercury, my favorite wheel for old Thunderbirds and the tires are from the current issue of the AMT '60 Chevy pickup with the go-cart. I think they're the thinnest pinstripes I've seen on a kit tire. The other side has a wide whitewall right to the rim.
  8. How close is the Pinto suspension to the Mustang II ? The Revell Beatnik Bandit II has a detailed Mustang setup, if you can use it?
  9. Hi from New Brunswick, actual East Coast. Of corse, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland are more east, but at least we know Canada doesn't stop at the Quebec border. ??
  10. Larry Watson's was much cooler.
  11. I don't think that's an actual kit from a model company. Looks to me like a larger scale plastic toy from somewhere. Note the grille in this pic ,,, '62 Chrysler 300 , probably from the AMT parts pack. I know that's 1/25 and looks tiny on the car. ,,, Yes, I do think it's a larger scale toy modified to use on the shows.
  12. Nope, no Canadians here. ??
  13. Looks just like '75 Dodge code L-4 "parchment"
  14. I don't have that kit any more but it seems to me that the bottom edge of the glass sat on top of the chrome, not under it. It just slid in from behind so the bottom edge sits on the chrome cowl area and the top of the glass is under the top of the frame.
  15. Needs a built Pontiac 455, not a Chevy. ? But everyone has an opinion. ?
  16. What ever happened to the one someone was doing last year? IIRC, they grafted the Firebird front ahead of the wheel opening to the Camaro body along with some other mods and came up with a Firebird body that was about as close as you'd probably be able to get without a newly tooled body. Anyone else remember that? Snake , do you remember who it was?
  17. Someone did. dino246gt I was following the thread but I can't seem to find it now.
  18. That's not where it meets the fenders, that's back to the wheel openings. On the real cars, those extensions are separate pieces, same as on the MPC/AMT kits.
  19. Casey, this page is from the 1980 catalogue. I think it's the last time the TD Vette was available. All 4 kits with those wheels on the same page. ? The SS Vette was based on the TD Vette with just a different chrome tree and the tree with the hood, roof, etc swapped out.
  20. That's looking great ?
  21. Beautiful I almost mistook the first pic for a 1/1 car. ?
  22. I'll take your word for it Roger as I don't have a Monogram kit to check. I thought the offset was done with the motor mounts or crossmember. I would have thought different lengths A-arms on both sides would really screw up the suspension geometry. I do know the AMT Chevy van suspension works though because I've done it.
  23. Yea, OK. Just stating my opinion. ?
