Why Is The Dentist Office So Scarey?
iamsuperdan replied to OldTrucker's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have no hesitations or apprehensions about visiting the dentist. My dentist and her hygienists are great. It's just uncomfortable there. I'm 6'6" and those chairs just don't fit right. I find my right arm always falls asleep about 10 minutes in to anything I'm having done. Anything major (like having wisdom teeth removed) and I've been knocked out, so that's even better! No apprehension with the wallet either. Work health plan covers just about everything. Except for braces. And of course, both kids needed them! -
New Ford email announcement...
iamsuperdan replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As an aside, the OP pic is a rendering, not the actual truck. Official launch is tomorrow. The Maverick is a small truck, shares some of its underpinnings with the new Bronco Sport. Will be more of a competitor for the Honda Ridgeline. Like the RIdgeline, it's unibody, 4 cylinder, AWD or FWD. And it's perfect for what most people who think they need a truck actually need. It's a car with a big trunk. Perfect for tossing some bikes in the back, or a quick run to Home Depot, or maybe towing a small tent trailer. It's not designed to be a "real" truck, and that's not the target audience for this thing. People need to stop comparing it to half tons trucks, let alone the 1/4 ton trucks like the Colorado. That's like comparing a Civic to a Charger. Not the same market. It's not for me, but I think they'll do well with it. And it will pave the way for other small trucks. And it looks like a truck. -
On a somewhat related note, I think the hybrid option is currently the better option for most of North America. As has been said, distances between major cities and towns is far greater than in Europe or elsewhere in the world. This means much larger need for charging stations. And of course upgrading the power grid to handle it. My current truck is one of the new F150 PowerBoost hybrids. I've put about 4000km on it so far. When I fill up, my range shows around 900km per tank. And of that, just under 200km of that is in pure electric mode. Overall fuel economy is showing at 11.2L/100km. So it's an improvement over my previous gas engine trucks.

iamsuperdan replied to martinfan5's topic in Model Cars
Those both look excellent. Love obscure and different kits like that Nissan. -
BRBO2021
iamsuperdan replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It's been ages, but I'm actually making progress on my build. Will try and update my thread soon. Truck chassis is done. Interior is started. Trailer is pretty much finished. I might actually finish this one. -
Number built vs number sold. Ford are diverting almost all of their available microprocessors to the new Mach-e, the new F150, the new Bronco Sport, and the upcoming Bronco. This will leave the existing models to suffer and receive mass delays in production. So of course the Mach-E is going to have more production. As an aside, I've now driven a Mach-E. Spent an hour or so with one on Friday. It drives great, is comfortable, but feels like any other newer Ford. Great powertrain in an otherwise average car. GM and Hyundai do electric better, in my opinion.

AMT Mack Cruise-Liner
iamsuperdan replied to doorsovdoon's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I hear you. I'm not a truck guy per se, and I know pretty much nothing about them, but I love building truck models! As for your other points, welcome to the world of AMT truck kits! I find the ones I've done more challenging than they need to be because of the same things you've discovered. Some parts numbered, some not. Vague instructions, etc. Ahh well, I still like them! -
Jordon-Mugen-Honda 1999

And don't forget, in 1997 or so, the Williams cars with Rothmans livery became "Racing" cars. -
The new “reaction button” makes no sense
iamsuperdan replied to Venom's topic in How To Use This Board
I'm not giving anything away with these comments, but there have been discussions along this line, and I can confidently tell you that there are no plans at all to make this site a mandatory paid membership site. That would kill the board for sure, and no one wants that. -
Personally, I'm not concerned one way or the other if it gets used or not. Myself, I'd probably use, as sometimes I have nothing to add other than "nice build." Having said that, if it will help stop people from quoting a post with a dozen pics, just to add "nice" then I'm all for it. Of course, when some people realize that by using the like button, they aren't increasing their post count, they'll stop using it. I wonder though, why do people want to see who liked their posts? Not sure what the point of that is.

"Holy Grail" Models?
iamsuperdan replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I see it there quite a bit. There's one active now, but it's about $120 CDN. I've paid half that for the other versions that are molded in yellow or white. I'm sure at some point I'll just do it, but for now I'm happy waiting for a deal! -
"Holy Grail" Models?
iamsuperdan replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks to Ebay sellers that weren't asking the moon, and the generosity of another member here, I've managed to find a few of my grail kits; a Ferrari 288 GTO, original AMT Matador X, and an AMT 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone. There's always a couple though that seem to be out of reach though. ESCI Ford Transit - molded in red, in the promo box Tamiya Volvo 850 - estate, BTCC estate, BTCC sedan None of these are particularly rare, but they are listed and sell for more than I'm willing to pay at this time. Eventually, I'll get lucky like I did with the Ferrari and Matador mentioned above. Found each of those for under $40 CDN. -
worst commercials - i have to mute the tv
iamsuperdan replied to youpey's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I don't watch a lot of tv. Most of what we do watch is recorded and watched at another time, so we just skip the commercials. Or we stream it through Netflix or Amazon or whatever, so no commercials either. I think the only time I see commercials is during hockey games or other sporting events, like the curling briers we've had here over the past few months. -
I think for most of my builds, it's just from things I've seen. I'm always saving images of interesting cars & trucks, or interesting colour combos. Or it's a kit that has particular personal meaning. Maybe it was something I owned, or was in the family. Maybe it was from a movie or tv show I'm into. Other than this place, I'm not involved in any sort of "model scene" so other peoples' builds aren't as big an inspiration for me as they are for others. Although, I have found some good ideas here that I have used.

Now I'm wondering where the Blue Goose is now.

I think that was a Fujima kit. Probably one of the first builds I did when I got back into the hobby 10 years ago or so. Couldn't tell you where I found it! It builds up okay. Would like to find another and do a better job this time.

I'll be taking at least one of each for sure.
