Liquidating entire collection of models and models supplies.
Bucky replied to ewetwo's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm thinking that selling individual items, whether it be a kit, tools, or supplies, would bring in more money. Depending on the size of the stash, and the quantity of supplies and tools, it would be quite an undertaking, and would take a while to accomplish a complete liquidation. Selling in this manner might possibly generate a steady income for a little while. I sold well over $1000 worth of kits in 2020, one at a time, which helped me finance needed repairs to our old house so that we could sell and move into our new house. I didn't receive anything from eBay. I also offered items for sale on a couple forums that allow such activities, and was able to complete a few deals that way. Sometimes, though, the auction sites may get you a higher price than trying to sell on a forum. -
Looks just like some of the real ones I saw back when they were all the rage! I built one of these kits a couple years ago. It is neat, fun kit to tinker with.

A beautiful Skylark! Great execution on this one. Reminds me of the real Skylark I owned in 1976..... except mine was a '72.... and it was red.... with a white interior! LoL

Beautiful! Tell me.... did a '68 Coronet have a tilt wheel option? I believe you could carve out something like that, too! LoL

I have the same site as Steve pinned on my desktop. It seems to work every time I try it.

opinions on color shift paint
Bucky replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've done a few color shift paint jobs in the past. All of mine were done over a flat black base coat, per the instructions that came with the color shift paint. AMTronic. Purple to gold shift. https://images52.fotki.com/v1639/photos/7/1319407/16160725/636918882-video.mp4 1966 Barracuda. Purple to green shift. https://images108.fotki.com/v1221/photos/1/1319407/6089010/608378984-video.mp4 1941 Willys. Purple to blue shift. It seems to be a subtle shift on my builds, Perhaps that is due to the fact that I used a black base coat. I have more projects coming in the future to use color hsift paint on, and I may experiment with some other base colors for those. -
opinions on color shift paint

I agree about the older bodies showing the color change effects better. The rounded fenders and hoods and sloping back decks catch light from different angles at the same time, picking out the different colors in the paint job. -
Best way to cut and re-assemble interior tubs?
Bucky replied to charlie8575's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mr. Guthmiller mentioned removing the convertible top wells from the side panels if one is building a hardtop. Keep in mind that it might mean reworking the rear seat would be a necessary mod to perform on order to match up with that side panel mod. -
AMT '49 Merc. This represents one of my most extensive custom jobs, to date. I pancaked the hood and trunk. Fabricated a forward tilt hinge for the hood. Tamiya blue and green paint. I started this custom Mercury four years ago.... I'm using an old AMT '67 Cougar rebuilder I got off the well known auction site, with the fastback roof from a "Snakebite" Shelby kit. I've got it this far. Hopefully, soon, I can get back to work on this one.

Combinations of a Merc and a Chevy SSR Pickup became 2 Vehicles
Bucky replied to Nosferatu's topic in Model Cars
Very cool Mercolet builds! Both look well balanced to me. -
Great looking bunch of Mercury! I built the AMT '49 about three years ago, and currently, I have an AMT '67 Cougar on the go. I'll have internet hooked up in a couple days, and will post a few pics, then.

Wow!! Sharp Chevy! Looks just like a snapshot of 1969!

Very nice Galaxie! I built one back in the late 80's and used just about the very same colors! Also, it was my first attempt at using Bare Metal Foil. That was quite a task!

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
Bucky replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool, Steve! Perhaps Ed Fluck could make a few copies of that? (Shameless hint.) -
I knew you had it in ya! Already reminds me of the player I had that wore out "Hotel California" and "The Wall" back in the day!(Darn tape-eater!)
-
Surely some kit sometime down through the years had one in it. There were several CB radios included in various kits. Maybe you could work your magic on one of those and change it into an eight track player. BTW.... great color choice!

What did you see on the road today?
Bucky replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never have my camera handy, but today I saw a '65 Mustang, a '68 Camaro, and a baby blue and white 1958 Ford convertible. It was a beauty! I haven't seen one of those in decades!! -
Welcome aboard! I'm nearly 66, and have been doing this hobby since I was around 7. I very nearly learn something new every time I check the forums, too! Lots of talent is shown in these pages, and just about everyone is willing to share their tips and techniques.

I also noticed the orange exhaust manifold. Is that factory correct?

Some of the problems I have run into with regular masking tape....it sticks too good, and either leaves adhesive residue, or it can pull off some of the underlying paint. I prefer Tamiya tape, or the low tack painter's tape, especially the cheap stuff from the generic dollar type stores.

In what vehicle did you learn to drive?
Bucky replied to BeakDoc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I started driving around my grandfather's rural neighborhood when I was around 10 or 11. My dad had a '59 Chevy BelAir 4dr, 283 automatic. My uncle had a 1965 shortbed Chevy C-10, six pistons and three speed column shift. Grandad had a 1955 Ford F-100, flathead with three speed column shift, and a 1965 Chevy Biscayne 4dr, with six pistons and three speed column shift. I drove those vehicles all over the area. Back then, there weren't that many cars on the road for a 10 year old to run over. Driver's Ed class had a 1973 Ford LTD, with two steering wheels....you know.... just in case! LoL My driver's test was in my dad's 1968 Dodge Coronet Deluxe, 4dr., slant six, three speed column shift, no radio, no power steering. I actually parallel parked that one, and passed my test on the first run. Maybe the state trooper giving me the test felt sorry for me. -
Favorite/greatest body style ever?
Bucky replied to Venom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My all time favorite body style is the 1968 Chrysler 300, 2 dr hardtop or convertible. Please feel free to add some pics, as I'm posting this from a cheap phone.
