This is a kit bash of the MPC Mount’n Goat kit and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (TJ) by Revell. I scratch built the suspension, winch and other tidbits, and swapped in a Buick 350, TH400 trans and NP205 transfer case. Differentials are from a full size Ford 1/2 ton. Wheels and tires are from Scenes Unlimited. All comments welcome...Thanks for looking. Build thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/150899-tjeepster/

Nice clean builds on all. The weathering on the blue Ford is really nicely done. -

Great work on this! Can’t wait to see it in paint. What ever happened to the AMT Vicky you were working on? -
Moebius F-100 wheel base change
NOBLNG replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know that would be the easiest way, but if it’s just a matter of shortening the box in two spots and the frame, it shouldn’t be too difficult? I see Moebius makes one (1970) in 2wd short box. This would likely be the best donor I imagine if I decide to go that route? -
Has anyone cut this down from the 131” wheelbase to the 114.8” wheelbase? It shouldn’t be to hard I would think. I found a website with all the actual dimensions on it. Any tips or hints appreciated. Thanks. https://www.fordification.com/tech/bodybuilder70.htm

That’s the way the kit is made. The pegs are part of the tailgate and are captured by the tail lights. It doesn’t fold down level with the bed like it should, but I didn’t want to mess with it since it won’t be displayed with it open anyway. The tire carrier turned out to be real simple to make. The hardest part was getting the spare rim to fit that tire. -

I’m pretty much done with this one. I want to put another coat of paint on the flairs before it goes “under glass “. I have a fifth tire, so I might try to fab a tire carrier for the back of it yet. -

?If you are planning to strip it...you’ve got nothing to lose by trying a touch up first.

Nice work on this so far. I am thinking of starting on mine soon and you’ve given me some great ideas. Thanks! -
Welcome to the forums. Nice start on these. That roof joint on the ‘36 is a PITA. I mixed up some sprue glue to strengthen the joint and blend it on mine. Here’s some more inspiration. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/150783-amt-‘36-ford-coupe/

I added some disc brakes that I made from .025 aluminum and styrene sheet. I got these nice wheels and tires from Scenes Unlimited. They came with full wheel backs but I didn’t want to block them off. So I drilled the outers to fit my coat hanger axle shafts and made new inner rings from some pvc pipe. The tires fit a little loose on the rims so i added a .010 shim. -

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. The body is now glued to the frame. It wobbled pretty bad, so I had to cut through a few of the mounts. I will re-shim them once the new wheels are mounted and it sits on all fours. I added the fuel filler tube that runs through the interior and was going to add one below also, but the body mount is in the way for them to line up...oh well. ? I built a new license plate light/mount and also built new tail light and reverse light lens from red sprue and a plastic bottle cap. The lens in the kit were not big enough for the frames and would have put the backup lights at the bottom, which is incorrect. -
New Kits of Old Subjects from Round2
NOBLNG replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I too am surprised it hasn’t been kitted. Besides the CJ, it probably had the longest production run of any Jeep vehicle. I had a stock ‘94 and loved it. I would definitely buy the kit. -

Is this the Monogram kit? I have one that I have not opened, but heard there were some issues with it?

Jeepster Kits -- Is This All Of Them?
NOBLNG replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was wondering about that too. Those first two pictures are convertible soft tops, not hard tops. Here is a pic of my ‘71 that shows the drip rails and hatch well.
