  1. That would be neglect and what a lot of 1:1 builders are looking for. They would paint it with either a flat or semi gloss clear and that would be the bodies final finish.
  2. Another flat head straight eight to use would be the Hudson Hornet kits and these even have the twin carbs if your wanting something a little extra for power.
  3. Normally grey primer seems to be the default color to use. Working with a colored plastic can offer some problems with bleed thru into any paint colors used. I'm sure you have seen references to testing with picnic spoons to test how a color will look. I would suggest using a large section of spruce from your kit and do your testing with it since the bleed thru wouldn't show up on a picnic spoon. I have fought this problem on a Corvette build that was in red plastic and I had to use a lot of primer . In this case especially I would consider using an automotive paint like Duplacolor primer. I have seen other builders recommend using a silver mt. as a primer to block the orange plastic color from showing thru. There will be others that will offer some other ideas to try as well.

  5. Your efforts really paid of with this build. I like how you reworked the upper windshield and roof area. The paint and colors look great. Very clean looking trim .
  6. Beautiful looking color. I like the interior details. Don't remember seeing to many that even show the red seat belt buttons.
  7. I think he is trying to show the hows and ways of doing different styles of builds. They are quick and dirty but do show how easily changes can be made.
  8. What a shame, looks like the "Tin Worm" has had it's way with this one. Might save some of the hard to find trim and glass.
  9. Thank you for sharing. So many beautiful looking Hot Rods. Many great ideas for future builds. Hard to say which one you would like the best, but the '48 Chevrolet sedan delivery with the air brushed wood trim and flames would sure look good in my garage.
  10. I realize this a very personal design you're doing so I would go with what looks best to you. I would suggest, if you haven't already, look on Google for '62 Impalas and see what the OEM looks like and what others have done on 1:1 cars. This can give some ideas that you may not of even considered. As for the center of the side moldings Chevrolet used an engine turned silver finish on the SS models and the regular Impala could be white or black depending on the exterior body color. One idea to maybe blend in with the colors you're already using would be to brush paint the center of the molding with a Candy Blue color. Doing this over the chrome foil would make it stand out.
  11. I have a bedroom that serves as my building & display area. I have two large and one shorter book cases that I have my built models displayed on. I'm also running out of room but the problem is I don't want to give up any of them. I know of others that just sell them at swap meets or on E-Bay. I do have several storage boxes filled with models from many years ago and I think I may just put them in Zip Loc plastic baggies sell them next year at the local swap meet.
  12. Great marketing idea. Got my hopes up on some of the old AMT's and welcome any additions like they did on the '67 Impala 4 door hardtop and anything else they can update for us.
  13. I like the attention to all the details with the cargo on the roof and something to drink inside. The model its self looks great and you would expect mismatched colored wheels on such a vehicle.
  14. The color looks great especially for a background for any Drag Signage on this.
  15. Interesting point on the door handle/chrome molding issue. I think that actually the kits door handles are put to high against the molding which is actually in the proper location based on the photo. In the photo it looks as if the top portion of the door handle is aligned with the bottom chrome trim where in the kit it has the handle aligning with the top edge of the molding. Unless this bothers you I wouldn't try and change it as it might be more trouble than it's worth at this point with the paint and trim all done.
  16. I like the firewall idea. The Lake Pipes, which I personally like on some cars, were usually seen on cruiser type cars. This would depend on where you lived when they were popular I think.
  17. Great looking build. All the little details you're adding give it the extra personality and help tell a story. Who hasn't had to use pliers to roll down a window or open a door ?
  18. This is a great kit and I look forward to seeing you put your touch on this. Always thought this was one of the better looking Ford designs from that era. A lot of engine options and I think any left over parts can be used to enhance the Edsel engine as well.
  19. You have been doing some great body work getting the roof to align with the windshield moldings. I was going to suggest maybe even adding just another layer of material at the corners where the roof meets the top corner of the windshield. This could be filled and sanded to shape also.
  20. I was there last week and picked up an old Revell model A pickup kit with optional build parts included. Kits I remember seeing were '60 Pontiac Bonneville and one of the Chevy II hardtops. A couple of Hudson kits among others. At $15 most of these are worth that for parts alone.
  21. The center design resembles a GMC truck grill maybe from the square body era. Could be the grill option out of one of the old 3 in 1 kits from long ago.
  22. I'm really not a fan of the way they run the races now. A couple of short Heats and then the last so many laps as the main event.
  23. The Pontiac front end looks a little over the top. How much dead space is there between the radiator and the front hood opening I wonder ?
