Amazing looking details. The Solar Dryer (cloths line) gives me flash backs.

Engine metal color paint
espo replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I can see a lot uses for these colors for chassis parts as well. -
I have used the Tamiya Smoked clear directly from the spray can with no bad effects on the "glass". I mask all of the area that I don't want painted including the interior window moldings or sun shades. Apply very light coats on the interior side of the glass. You want to sort of work up to the darkness you're after. The tricky part is that if you start doing to heavy a spray it will run very easily. Practice on some clear spruce or a section of glass from a model that has a bridge of clear between the windshield and the rear window or side glass. You wouldn't want to use that portion anyway since it will cover your headliner. I have seen builders use a very light coat of clear green or blue to represent OEM looking tinted glass. Less is more with this technique.

*Painting Molded in Windshield Wipers*
espo replied to Zippi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I usually use BMF but there are times that I will use Tamiya bottle paints. A trick I learned from another builder years ago has to do with out lining the area you're going to paint using a #11 blade. This builds a slight stop for the paint flow. I have done this with I have used the Molotow since I have had a hard time controlling it's flow. The area where the wiper blade bracket and the blade it's self is hard to detail but I have tried using either the Tamiya line paint or the smoke clear and it gives the area a little depth much like the air vents on the cowl area between the windshield and the back edge of the hood. -
We had a JK Wrangler that we kept throwing money into ( Jeep = Just Empty Every Pocket) and had 33" on 9.5 " and a 4" lift. Next time your out look at how many people are looking in their rear view mirrors as you roll up to an intersection, or as you drive by them and they have their windows rolled down.

Great looking finish, like a well used tool. The figure adds a lot to the look also. Nice signage on the truck body.

This maybe a basic kit but with a great looking paint job and all the trim cleanly done it looks great.

That Candy Apple Red T-Bird reminds me of the first spray painted kits we built in our youth. I think it was Testers and even AMT had some spray paints. I built a few that looked just like this at the time. I was proud as punch of them, now I just shack my head looking at them. This was the best deal in town at the time.

Beautiful looking finishes every where you look.

Finished these two after a long (nearly 30 year) layoff...
espo replied to olddude55's topic in Model Cars
They both look great. The color and interior combination on the Pontiac looks period correct. The '34 pickup color and custom grill look a lot like the box art. Very nice paint on both and cleanly finished. -
Finally got two new chairs we had ordered from Laz E Boy. The two guys set them up in the living room. #1 guy gets his done and has use sign off on the chairs and is out the door. #2 guy is having trouble getting the seat back installed then gets up and almost runs to the truck where #1 is waiting with the motor running. My wife notices the seat back looks like it's back an inch or more than the other chair. They're gone and we have to call customer service. Not what I would call them but that's the name they go by. We're told it will be the end of Aug. before they can get someone out to look at the chairs. May be the last time we ever buy anything from Laz E Boy. Now I think I know why they wanted all their money up front before they delivered the chairs. Looking at the attachment brackets it looks as if they were not installed in the same place on the one chair.

Great looking wagon. I like the smooth paint and color. I also like the wheels.
-
Another great looking conversion. Hudson had a history of building some great looking pickups. The cab three window step up looks like it may have come from a GM pickup.
-
I can see where changing the wheel base makes the rear overhang look better. Very smooth blending of the two bodies. Almost wonder why Ford didn't think if this when they went to the 4 seater Bird. Great looking color.

Looks great on the nicer '59 body. The original delivery with the slanted B pillar I think is based on the old Monogram kit. I like the paint treatment.

Nice clean looking build and I like the period wheels. The rear quarter window ad a realistic touch.

Cleaned up much better than expected. -
AMT '67 Mustang Fastback-Now in Under Glass Section
espo replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ya the exhaust seems on kits are kind of a pain to deal with but they really are pretty obvious if not corrected. I like the Flexi-file that uses a ribbon of sanding plastic running between the handle ends. This lets you get into a lot of hard to reach areas even before the part is removed from the parts tree. -
1940 Ford body style history ?
espo replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
In addition to the excellent information provided by carsntruck4you consider the Revell '40 Ford coupe model. This kit has the standard hood and grill along with a lot of other great detail chassis and interior parts. The kit was also offered at one time as a Hot Rod issue with a dropped front axle along with some speed parts for the Flathead engine. -
Finned oval air cleaner?
espo replied to EngineerBob's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you can't find a kit with the air cleaner you are wanting consider scratch building one. The air cleaner in the picture looks like you could use a couple of oval shaped pieces of flat plastic. This you could shape into the desired shape. The ribs on the top could be represented with some very fine stripes of plastic stock. The air filter element could be made out of several different materials. I suggest looking for anything that is thin and can easily be bent to shape. Look beyond the normal modeling products and look around at different product packaging and even shipping protection products. My wife doesn't through anything out before asking if I can use it for modeling. Bonus is that you will get to point to the air cleaner and say "I made that". -
Beautiful looking Study. You're right about these things they are so homely looking stock, but like this they look better than most popular body styles.
