Been wanting to take a crack at again, but this kit is rare and expensive. Got this mostly-unbuilt and unpainted unit off of evilBay for just $20.00. Broken windshield, and a couple of missing parts, but I already have a built-up parts car that should provide what I need. Was surprised that both of the metal front springs were still intact! The .020" wire is because, like paint, styrene, metal stock, etc., you can never have too much variety, in your wire selection! The hinges for the Model A photo-bombed me. Last year I restored the one I built in 1967. I also have an original glue bomb from eBay, and an unbuilt "Custom Vette" reissue, and I'm hoping between the two I can get one GOOD original Mako Shark with enough parts left over to build some kind of "custom" clone. The 904 has a special place in my heart, along with several other older Porsches, and I really want a model of the damm thing that actually LOOKS like the damm thing. One for reference while I hack the second one to get it looking more like the real car. And before the "rivet counter" and "it's only plastic" and "I can't see anything wrong" onslaught starts...I can see what's wrong and it matters to me. I also acquired a few of the 1/24 Monogram curbside kits, based on the slot car. In all the photos I've seen, it looks to be a better representation of a 904, possibly the best one. We'll see. If it turns out to be the case, I'm not certain which way I'll jump, but at least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing for myself. Depending on how things shake out eventually, the 1/24 kits MAY get kitbashed using bits from the 1/25 kits as well as guts from Fujimi, especially their Porsche 4-cylinder cammer and 901 engines. Couldn't pass up a sweet deal on another one of these, too. It's arguably one of the best "parts kits" going if you're into early Ford hot-rods. It's nothing terrible, just the shape of the front wheel arches, the overall angle of the nose relative to the rest of the car, window shapes, upper door cut-lines, and a few other things. I've seen your work, you certainly have the skills to correct it, and even if you don't want to bother, it still makes a good looking model built up. It's just not quite right. I cannot remember who did, I used to race it on a slot car track at my friends house. His dad had a killer 4 lane 1:32 track. Mark loved Ferrari’s and I had a rage tag Daytona coupe. Failing that, is there something available in resin ?? I think the Trumpeter Novas and the AMT 62-63 Novas are the only correct 6 cylinders in plastic. The old AMT kit is kind of basic and probably not worth the price you’d have to pay to get one. There was also a 4 cylinder available in the Nova - that I believe was based on the 6 - so you could cut 2 cylinders off... Ken Kitchen Table Top Resins has/had a straight 6 also, I believe, but I’m not sure he’s still up and selling? The Trumpeter is 1:24 but here it is in a 1:25 AMT wagon - so looks fine.
