Sink hole refuses to go away!
TarheelRick replied to bh1701's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have found acrylic nail filler to be a good choice for filling holes, etc. You can buy a complete kit in the cosmetic section of WalMart or any beauty supply store; it is the same stuff all these fingernail designers use. There is a bit of a learning curve with it and it does not like dehydrators. It is also quite difficult to sand, but when dried, and it does dry rather quickly, paint does not have any effect on it. There does not seem to be any day-later shrinkage either. You might want to give it a try. -
Massy Fergusson 20 Farm Tractor - 'Renovation time'
TarheelRick replied to tiking's topic in Dioramas
Was it fun? For a 14 year-old wanting to drive anything it was a blast. However, that training session quickly turned into "letting" me plow fields and do other mundane jobs on the tractor. Looking back those many years ago, yes it was fun. -
Massy Fergusson 20 Farm Tractor - 'Renovation time'

Excellent work, really like the weathering you have done. I learned to drive a tractor on one of these many, many years ago. -
As the others have said this has a very realistic look. Especially like the pot holes and the dirt piled up alongside the curb. Excellent diorama.

Had to return some pants to JCPenney's today. No problem with the return, cashier very friendly and quickly refunded my money. Went on into the store to find a pair of pants that I wanted, went back to the "Customer Service ??" station and there was no one there, looked around, didn't see a soul. Walked to another station, same thing. Another couple was waiting at this one, waited for a while and finally the clerk showed up. I realized just how easy it would have been to walk out of the store with my merchandise, there was no security tag attached to it. When I left there I dropped by the local "CookOut" to get a milkshake. Both lines were backed up. At this facility the exit lane drives through the entry lane, a very dumb set-up. Anyway I stayed back so as not to block the exit. You guessed it, a couple of cars drove around me and blocked the exit lane. Really wanted to have a word or two with them, but decided the best way was to just leave, come home and have some of my own ice-cream. Of course that milkshake would have made the 30 mile drive home a bit more enjoyable.

That is some really nice weathering. It is going to look good altogether. -
Have the same question. Picked up a couple cans of the Extreme Lacquer at Michael's today. They had about six cans of Root Beer and three cans of Inca Gold that still had the seal around the cap, a hodge-podge of other colors all had the seals broken and one can of clear felt quite light. Used my 20% off coupon and the remnants of a gift card; total they cost me less than $2.00. So, as far as costs of paint I am not really too worried, but the idea of possibly messing up a build bothers me. Another question, the label says "paint, primer, sealer, all in one can: Is that realistic or do I need to lay a primer coat before using this stuff? Or is there a possibility of the extra primer causing problems? So many questions, inquisitive minds want to know. Guess the answer is to give it a try and see what happens, on scrap of course. When I get a chance to try it, I will report the results.

These kits are somewhat underrated IMHO. Will be following this build, I like the direction you are taking. One question: Once you raise the fenders how are you going to reconcile the running board and the remaining longer door sides?

Ollie's strike again
TarheelRick replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped by my local Ollie's today (30 miles one way) all they had were the Camaro, the 49 Merc, Pumper Firetruck (plenty of those), and a couple if the IH kits. There were also a couple of the Civil War Artillery kits - 2 Confederate and one Union. There was a lot of bare shelf space, so evidently they had a selection. When we have the local model show I will usually set up a table to sell off a few of my overstock of kits. Couple of years back I had a '62 Chevrolet Convertible I had bought at Ollie's a couple years earlier. Normally I will remove the sales stickers, even the Hobby Lobby stickers and place my price tag on there. On this particular Chevy kit I had forgotten to remove the sticker, some guy came by and bought the kit for the price I was asking. On the Ollie's kits I will normally double the price, which gives me some negotiating room. Really surprised when he paid me full price with that big orange Ollie's sticker on the top of the box showing how much I had paid for it. -
worst commercials - i have to mute the tv

Actually I think more than half of them list death as a side effect. What I can't understand are the ones that "may cause diarrehia and constipation". Now I guess body chemistries may react differently, but I believe this is simply a catch-all statement to cover big-pharma's posterior. I never realized there were so many alphabetical diseases "I may have" that require me to tell my doctor I need a certain drug. Oh yeah, anything with Dick Vitale is an automatic mute, even a Duke/UNC ball game. -
If you have a Hobby Lobby close by, look through their beading section. They carry a product this is used for making necklaces, it is a very flexible black rubber-like tube. It is called "Pony Bead Lacing" comes in a 5 yd/4.5m roll and has an OD of .080 in or 2 mm. It also comes in clear, a bit large for a fuel line, but still looks good.

Oh my, that is just one "nasty" looking Torino. I always liked that body style, and your touch just makes it that much more appealing. Mighty fine build.

In today's climate not necessarily the situation. My local Bojangles has only one drive-up window, whereas the McDonald's has two, yet because of shortage of help only one is open. Both these places in the next town have two windows and both are opened. So I place the blame on the person taking the order for not giving the buyer directions as to which window to go to.

Really sweet Chevelle. Does bring back memories of my youth.
-
IMHO the '65 Chevelle is the ultimate Chevrolet, no matter the body style. You have done an excellent job with this one. Very unassuming color choice, yet it looks so right. That dual-quad 327 should move it on down the highway. Very nice job.

Really nice work kitbashing. Just might want to rethink those weed-burner exhausts, look to be quite low and a bit long. Still an excellent build
-
Outstanding T-Bird. Your color choice really sets it off. And your photography could be in a factory brochure.

Oh wait, you mean it is not about furniture sales and a day off work? says the retired veteran facetiously. Thank you for that note. Our local Veteran's Council sponsored the annual Memorial Day service at the county park. This is the eighth year I have been involved and am becoming all to familiar with the majority of people who attend; very few new faces or younger generation there.

Great trade with Modlbldr, will gladly trade with him anytime.

Tomorrow is the last day of school and I will not see a bus until sometime in August. Hopefully, by then, face masks will also be a thing of the past.
